The Behemoth's Castle Crashers was one of five top-tier Xbox Live Arcade titles to launch during Microsoft's Summer of Arcade last August, an initiative that caused XBL revenues to spike 67 percent on the month. By the end of 2008, Microsoft declared that Castle Crashers was the top seller of the pack, as the four-player beat-'em-up edged out Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 and Braid.

While specifics of just how well the game has sold remain under wraps, The Behemoth said today on its official blog that there are now 1,000,000 unique Xbox Live gamertags on the Castle Crashers leaderboards. Though the number is substantive, it should be noted that leaderboard statistics and total sales are not a one-for-one match, as up to four users with unique gamertags can participate in a game on a single console.

That being said, The Behemoth did note that Castle Crashers can now be called the "fastest growing XBLA game in history." Apparently, the game has also "saved marriages," though The Behemoth provided no evidence to support this claim.

The Behemoth expects to release its third effort--operating under the working title Game #3--in 2010. For more on Castle Crashers, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

    @ WeWerePirates: Seriously man i been looking online for awhile now for when they will release another dlc for this. i got the king pack yeah the gold sword is cool but i would rather have the main boss minions as a playable character and the necromancer flying fool. but yeah i really hope that they come out w/ new dlc.

    As far as multiplayer games go, this is some of the most fun you can have for the money. Kudos to Behemoth for their well-deserved success. Keep 'em coming, guys.

    look slike this deserves to be put with the Arcade Hits
    but i guess it's still selling we so i don't think it will.
    enjoyed the demo but these £10 games are just too expensive for download titles .. heck i just bought Dead space brand new for £10

    Great game, wish they'd do more DLC, like some levels or something. But here I am waiting for #3 Hope they do a Castle Crashers sequel though. Tight game.

    awesome game. i was hoping for more dlc than some weapons that i didn't need since the dlc came out about 2 months after beating the game. still a great value.

    I don't own an Xbox360, but a friend does who owns this game and I've played it once or twice and found it fun and engaging game. If I were to ever buy an Xbox, this would be the first thing I purchased.

    Probably, IMO, the greatest XBL title to date extremely addictive, great bits of humor, and excellent artistic style. My only wish would be that they could have made a few more varied warrior styles especially with the new DLC. That and I'd love to see some sort of ultimate magic that just wiped everything on screen like Golden Axe and other classic brawler games. I'm curious whether I'll have as much fun with PSN's Fat Princess looks like a similar art style but in 3D and sort of humorous but just more varied types of gameplay than just brawling.

    i like this game a lot. i got to level 99 and beat the game on the hardest diffuculty but i stopped playn it ever since people started usin that glitch to level up really high .

    never played it with three other players. Only tried with one friend, but the game is still funny and the coop was all I was looking for anyways.

    I was going to say this actually looks like a game I would like to see on the PS3, but after reading the comments so far and seeing the 15 buck price tag maybe not so much. Had thought about throwin my roomie 10 bucks to download this but looks like I ll continue waiting for Fat Princess.
