No More Heroes dev working on PS3 title

[UPDATE]: Siliconera clarifies report at request of Marvelous Interactive, Grasshopper not behind publisher's PS3 game.

In Aesop's fable about the grasshopper and the ant, the former insect wastes away the summer months in leisurely activities while his industrious counterpart prepares for the coming winter. Unlike its namesake, Grasshopper Manufacture should be in no risk of perishing due to idleness.

The developer has a robust slate of games to work on, including a Wii sequel to No More Heroes, a multiplatform collaboration with Shinji Mikami and Q Entertainment, a potential project for Square Enix, and an unnamed PlayStation 3 game set to be published by Marvelous Interactive. In an interview with Siliconera, Marvelous president Yasushiro Wada implied that producing the game--which he still considered a secret--would be a significant risk for the publisher.

"If we do that [game], we might go bankrupt," Wada joked, adding that, "We are making it, but if we make everything, then it's a little too risky."

Grasshopper has a history of risky projects, including the violent No More Heroes on Nintendo's family-friendly Wii system, the surreal (and also violent) GameCube and PlayStation 2 action game Killer 7, and Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse for the Wii. Although it was part of an enduring line of survival horror games, Nintendo apparently felt the Fatal Frame game still carried too much risk, as the company declined to publish it in North America or Europe.

Siliconera doesn't mention if Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda (often referred to as Suda-51) will have a hands-on role in the development of the PS3 title.

[UPDATE]: Siliconera has since updated its report as a result of an apparent misunderstanding. The site says Wada's comment about going bankrupt was a joke about if the publisher had decided to make a PS3 game with Grasshopper. However, the later comment confirming that "We are making it," was instead a reference to a PS3 title the company is making without the assistance of Grasshopper.

Not interested unless this game takes atleast 2 years to make. And I don't see what this subject has to do with the 360.

I would have bought a Wii just for Fatal Frame 4. Here's to hoping for a PS3 release.

@SethSOMT is it not fair to provide commentary in the comment section? or do i need to stick typical fanboy statements of either "zomg Ps3 failz" or "OMG xbox is for N00BZ"... sorry for attempting to provide insight.

    Why can't Grasshopper go bankrupt?
They have yet to make anything fun.
Don't get me wrong, I think No More Heroes would've been great if they were really able to capture the wonder and excitement of cutting grass, picking up litter, and pumping gas.

Come on Gamespot! Regarding Nintendo not publishing Fatal Frame in America, you said "Nintendo apparently felt the Fatal Frame game still carried too much risk." But I'm sure who wrote this knew good and well by now that Nintendo wanted Tecmo to change the broken and poorly reviewed controls and Tecmo declined doing that. So Nintendo said 'no' until they changed their minds.

Nintendo didn't want to publish a bad game and bring it to America, not that a Fatal Frame game on Wii "carried too much risk."

Oh dammit, thought the "no more heroes" was a plan so there would be no more guitar heroes, dj heroes, or any of that overpriced crap to come out anymore. There's one company that needs to go bankrupt now.

never played there games, but my man CJ said Fatal Frame series was pretty good. Interesting.... hopefully it's "true" horror survival as some people think.

Anytime Grasshopper says anything about a new game, I'm listening. No More Heroes and Killer 7 were amazing. I still want Fatal Frame on the Wii.

indeed, they call this " forbidden truth" no 1 wants to admit it, but all sony's exclusives doesn't justify the 500$, the magic solution for the ps3 is a redesign and a price cut, which is against sony's policy of fatal greediness and overpricing, who can imagine that a redesigned psp " not to mention its downgraded" is actually more expensive than its predecessor not to mention a lot expensive than a true next gen console ?

  • rohail88

    PS3 Piling in the exclusives!!

  • ropumar

    Posted Jun 18, 2009 2:27 am GMT

Now 360 owners are afraid of exclusivity?
They should be, cause Ps3 has a lot and the pile just keep growing.
Eager to see what they can do in their FIRST next gen game.

I liked no more heros...but as one poster said, the overworld was a bit lacking...

I hope the sequal is better in that aspect, fatal fram WOULD have been fatal on the wii if you get what I mean (bye bye grass hopper)...

As for the ps3 game...I wish you guys luck for I will never be able to play it (last console is the wii-after that's dead no more games)

No More Heroes was a good game that made good use of the Wii controls. The game for sure was not for the graphics but for the over the top violence and it's extreme use of profanity!

No More Heroes is extremely overrated. Lazy level design, bugs, empty, boring overworld, poorly-developed characters, anticlimatic ending. It's only saving grace is the boss fights, and even they aren't all that fun (and slightly unbalanced).

Thumb me down for contradicting your opinion.

No more heros has been my favorite game so far on the wii, the game itself is almost reason to get one. If NMH or another game by these guys comes to the PS3 Im sure it will be awesome!
