This is great. When it comes out I hope that most games that use pointing and FPS take advantage of this and update their controls.

This is going to BLOW "project Natal" out of proportion. What kind of retarded name is "project" Natal anyway? Wouldn't get on my nerves so much if it were just called "Natal" but with "project"? alittle too much cornyness for me and a tad bit on the halo sounding side for me.... GO SONY!!!!!! BLOW MICROMONEY OUT OF THA #2 SPOT and RECLAIM YOUR TITLE AS THE CONSOLE GODS you've ALWAYS been since PS1!!!

I agree that this is not as interesting as natal might seem but natal is going to need controlers because certan motions look to much alike to be distingushed betwen each other no mater the accuracy of the system. On Natal you could want to reload but move your finger to much and shoot an old lady in the head where as here you just hit a button, not as much fun but less dead old ladies as a result and truthfully this is much more presice, just because natal can track your hands doesnt mean it will always work right; your hand goes behind an obsticale it doesn't know whats going on, your dog runs in the room and you shoo him away and you just through away your gun down in the middle of a fight and how do you pause a natal game cause you cant hit start no you have to jump through hoops or just answer the phone with a bunch of gunshoots going off and your charenter putting a gun to his head. I own a wii the controls are not any good there are games where you have to draw and it is extreamly hard to do. Now this is not perfect but it is a major step in the right derection so I can't wait.

"ON WII if u do a little shake it will be the same as a wide and strong swing of your arm
and this got full 3d control with a submilimeter presition"

The same thing is achieved by Motion+ and its out already, this thing will probably take atleast a year to be launched. Its just stupid to compare present day technology with future technology.

dude, its a more precise wii remote...i love sony but this is ridiculous, the wii doesnt ONLY sell cause of its remote, but its demographic is kids, the games are fun, its fun looking etc. while the ps is just more attractable for maybe the adults y'know...maybe this is something great but ya know im just not sure

and the stupid one that think that natal with a plastic will b the same ... u r lame
that thing got gyros for state in every direction possibled and a camera for place in space not stupid accelerometers and ir - wii or a double camera that could mess up if your cat is moving - natal
i dont think that the natal will work great with multiple persons
or if you hand is behind your back

How much of an idiot do you have to be to think Natal is fake? They demoed it live on Jimmy Fallon - with a game that is already out, Burnout Paradise. I shouldn't even be qualifying with that though - Microsoft has no motive to demo fake technology and pretend their bringing it to market.

I LOVE it! I mean who of us can honestly say we haven't all wanted to jump into our games & fight ourselves. This is the future of total in game action. Really does give a new definition to 1st Person position. I play Wow & I would give anything to take on my foes with a controller like this. This will definately seperate the Pro's from the Joe's...

For those who don't think these controllers can replace normal gamepads... check this picture

    http://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/sony_motion-sensitive_controller_patent_1-480x274.jpg

It's just an early design, but if Sony does it right both motion controllers will have analog sticks, buttons and triggers. That's all you need to move in an FPS, motion control would only be used for looking around and shoot.

I don't like this whole motion sensing direction the industry is going.. if I wanted to "feel" like I was doing something in the real world... I would "actually" go and do it in reality... outside!

Plus, this thing really doesn't look like it works very good at all.

This is the most core gamer oriented motion control of the big three. I think it's more practical than Natal.

I thought "Harcore" gamers didn't use motion controls? You all bashed the Wii saying Dual-Analog is SOOOO much better.

Pretty cool. I like that it's so precise. I need that for Little Big Planet 2. It's difficult to make a level with a regular controller. The idea of taking a spray can to decorate my levels is too neat!

The speed that it tracks is phenomenal. There's no lag with actual 1:1 high-resolution control!

Well, it obviously isn't an original idea, but it has A LOT OF POTENTIAL. I have a xbox360, and I think it's better than the ps3, but I also think that Microsoft will need to do a very good job to make a xbox controller better than this one.

  • neevle

    This looks absolutely awesome!
I would rather this to microsoft because I wouldnt like to be waving my hands around like an idiot all the time. also, sony's controller looks really good for games like call of duty and if they bring out a new little big lanet, it would be really easy to make levels instead of holding the joystick to one side for ages to do what you want to do. It is a complete copy of the wii but with sony's graphics and the precision, it could be amazing.

  • Hulksmash77

    Posted Jun 3, 2009 11:14 am PT

    whata ripoff!

wii has had 2 years too make an awesome idea...and NOW sony steals it!

Hell will freeze over by the time they have this with a game that has ps3 graphics and not N64 graphics!

  • the_mitch28

    Posted Jun 3, 2009 11:04 am PT

Omg why do people think this is revolutionary and the Natal not? The natal would easily be able to do this if the game included a plastic stick in a particular colour that the game told the camera to recognise. Kinda like green screen.

Although the camera does a better job than a sensor bar, they are both outclassed by Natal simply due to its versatility which allows it do anything this can plus more.

I can't believe there's still someone who doesn't understand the potential of Sony's motion controller: it's all there in the video, and there's still more if you can read between the lines. I'm a proud x360 owner and I still don't have a PS3, but come on, If you're not a total ignorant when it comes to game design you should know why this system has the potential to replace normal controllers. Just imagine having a Wii control scheme (analog stick on the left controller, buttons on right) and that's almost all you need. The 1:1 precision is VITAL and looks like they got it right; if you're not impressed to see that guy writing with the controller, you obviously never tried the wiimote. You say "Natal is better", but all you've seen is a commercial from Microsoft, with the usual, nauseating happy family playing ridiculous casual games. What's the point with Milo? Do we really need a human tamagotchi? Thruth is, Natal looks like a silly gimmick just like EyeToy was - you can't replace standard controllers without buttons and you need precise movement, waving your arms doesn't work for prolonged sessions: if Sony presented something like that you'd be already laughing and ranting about it. Sony motion controller has still to prove a lot, basically 'cause they still need to build software around it and we don't know how much processing power it takes, but the technology is incredible and it could be applied to almost every game out there.
