WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 enters the ring

THQ confirms update to hit franchise; coming to 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and DS later this year.

With the release of the well-received fighter UFC 2009 Undisputed, and the announcement of EA's Mixed Martial Arts game, many may have already forgotten the traditional wrestling game, which for troubled publisher THQ represents a quarter of its profits.

Today THQ has announced the latest in its string of wrestling games, which to date have sold more than 47 million units worldwide, with WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010. The game, which is due to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and DS this autumn, is to be developed in conjunction with toy maker Jakks Pacific, with whom THQ has had something of a love-hate relationship.

The publisher has not given details on gameplay improvements, but has promised to "deliver player freedom never before experienced in the SmackDown vs. Raw franchise." The game's cover will also feature WWE superstars John Cena, Undertaker, Randy Orton, Edge, and Rey Mysterio.

THQ will be unveiling more on the game at the SummerSlam event in LA on August 23, and will be running down a history of the franchise at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Keep an eye on GameSpot's E3 page for more.

Women should be able to hold created belts. Mixed tag teams one man and one woman per team should be able to hold created tag team belts. All entrances for all superstars from then till now should be able to be picked.

    @dancingburrito5
That would be cool - like a buried alive match with a different minigame.

    @red0405
    NICE!

Hopefully THQ/Yuke's has someone trolling these forums for ideas. They really should use Gamespot's membership and conduct an open poll asking what we want. They would get TONS of good feedback from a wide variety of gamers, male and female.

it wud be cool if there was a strecher match and to get them up the ramp u have to press lots of diff" buttons like a mini game and u can also use the strecher as a weapon eg rolling it into ur opponent or surfing it into the other person like jeff hardy did to matt in the strecher match on smackdown

i hope there is a create a match so i can finally hav a normal casket match thats next 2 the ring because the buried alive match awesome and also i hope they can bring all the other create modes back because every year they get rid of the new create modes 4 that year so im getting a feeling that there going 2 get rid of create a finisher and third thing is why did they get rid of all the good matches like special ref and buried alive match they should hav all the matches and all the game modes they had in the past few years like in Smackdown Shut Your mouth the i quit match and hopefully they'll hav a strecher match that will be awesome

i would love to have a create-a-match mode on SvR '010 that would be SICK!!!!!

and for the wii they should have the inferno match and they should add the guest referee match to all the consoles of SvR

How about: - CREATE-A-BELT MODE - loved building up my belts till they were 'prestigious' by having matches of all types.

    - CREATE A PPV MODE - would be nice to share my PPV online with friends, or have an online 'party' whereby we can wrestle every match on a shared PPV card.

    - REFEREE MODE - have fun messing up other wrestlers you don't like, or have a blast ref'ing a matching online.

    - MORE ALTERNATE COSTUMES - come on...costumes already on disc! Let me 'edit a superstar' and build alternate costume sets. We have the big HDDs on the consoles for a reason - let us use em!

    - MATCH TYPES - beat the clock challenge, championship scramble match, boiler room/bar-room brawls, backstage areas, lumberjack match (actual lumberjacks).

    - DIVAS - more divas. Why can't I put them in inferno, handicap, etc in 2008? - DEFEND SINGLES BELT even in match types not 1 on 1. Fun with PPV create mode - "WWE Title" defense in a handicap match (champ vs. 2 or 3 or "gauntlet" [6] match) would be fun.

    - BRING BACK THE COMBOS - remember Goldberg on N64's Wrestlemania...he could activate a 'combo' meter from a grapple and pummel people...then slam them.

    - NO MORE NPCs - everyone should be playable. It would be fun to even the interviewers get in there as a referee or a punching bag in a handicap match.

    - CLASSIC ARENAS - even if these are downloadable content...WWE/WWF literally has HUNDREDS of classic venues to present to the player.

yo man i liked 09 but seriously, edit a superstar would be cool, then i could make the original undertaker attire and stuff like that, as far as be a GM mode goes, i hated it, i would make great realistic matches on raw and would have a main event like a triple threat with orton hbk and cena and would get a bad rating but look to see that smackdowns maine event was undertaker vs kelly kelly, as far as inteligence goes, that mode was broken

and i also agree with the other people who want a new outside ring camera angle, last year was atrocious. They should also make more tag teams, theyve been emphasizing tag teams but then they only have cryme tyme and DX, what about some more tag teams?

    Peace! Go Eagles! Go Undertaker!

I think they should bring back multiplayer story/career modes. Similar to No Mercy or Smackdown 2. Just more fun and up to date. On another not I feel they should allow us to create tag team entrances as well since 09 focused on Tag Teams. Anyone agree with any of this?

What would also be a nice topping to the cake would be to enable you to assign a first and last name so it could be read out, I'm sure it would'nt be that hard to do, Just get a good few names (possibly from a baby book) and record them, if your name isnt on the list then you'll have to type it in and have it not read out, but well those with common names (Mine being Steven) will be able to have it read out.

For the surename it might be more difficult giving the parculier last names people have but well get a good couple and read them out (I doubt mine will be on but I guess ile have to pick a simlier sounding one).

Then add the traditonal nickname and you'll have the announcer shout out some think like "Introducing to the ring Steven "The Immortal" Skelly".

Well I think it would be a good idea any way.

The third thing I'd really like to see involves the campaign, I wish I got the choice of what to do or say, or atleast a deeper sence of what to do or say, sorta in a simpler version on the mass effect choice system, I was playing 08 other day and the cut scenes made me do stuff that I wish my character wouldnt have done, and thats why I got the idea in my head of "what if we had a choice not to, what if we could have more influnce on the story in the career mode".

Sorry if this list is long but these are the idea me and my cusin came up with other day while playing 09, ideas we wish were in the next game.

What I'd like to see is a larger range of accents. A British one atleast, the WWE as a great fan base in Britian so I think it would be a wise choice. I also find it odd that My character who's Manchester (I'm not from Manchester but its as far north as your allowed to go in the WWE) speaks with an American accent, I'm sure it wouldnt be too hard to get a voice actor, why not get the guy from saints row 2, that was THQ too.

Also I think they should allow you to use the camera to make your character, take a picture of your own face, so many fighting games have adopted it these days it seems alittle odd for a game like Smackdown versus Raw, a game known for its vast amount of customisation, not to have that feature.

What we need is a storymode where, as frankiebdv stated, gives you the option to create a 'show'. Hopefully this is what THQ means by 'delivering player freedom never before experienced in the SmackDown Vs. Raw franchise'. Create A Finisher could be vastly improved also... I could go on and on, but for all the faults with 09 and the ways in which they could be improved, just check my review. Much appreciated, fingers crossed this SDVR will be everything we the gamers want it to be!!

If you want to emulate real wrestling then they need a "Be The Booker" mode means that you control wins and loses and the ability to set up angles.... let them attack on the way to the ring or after a match......with the games as of late has just been rehashes. There should be no reason why we cant have angles and the ability to do a virtual TV show.....just like in madden where you can go twenty or more years in franchise mode Smackdown should get the same treatment like make a "farm" fed (like OVW was and FCW is) have wrestlers retire and stuff like that. The past few years this games has been like a glorified patch then a full new game that they want to charge $60 for.

Earning EXP for CAW wrestlers on 2009 is extremely boring and tiring, a new method needs to be put in place.
My suggestion is that exp should be earned in normal matches from Exhibition mode. Select a CAW, play a match, win or loose, earn a little exp to make your caw stronger, simple. The option to use exp points should appear after the match, just like on other games, after playing the level, you get a chance to make the person, people stronger, it could be the same with wrestling right?
There are a few more improvements and add-ons which need to be put in place on SVR2010 but I'm not going to go on anymore, I have suggested a simple Improvement which I strongely agree with.

I think that smackdown vs raw 2010 needs:
    1-Better story
2-bigger rosters and lehends like ston cold the rock edie guerero back
3-A better time to couter a finisher ,it should have the capability to counter a finisher before it hits not before it occures for example hunting rko we should be able to counter it when randy orton jumps and grab our necks and the capability to counter a finisher with ur own thatl bring a lot more exitment to the game espacily when playing 2 or more players
4-a lot more selection of matches like stercher match ,guntlet mach ,punjabi prison ,I quit match
5-create a finisher was pitiful we need diving and running and back finishers
6-A lot more impact for the super hevyweights becuse if you droppet a man like big show down it has the same impact as dropping a feather
    7-Stories for caws
8-A way a lot easier to strenghen your caw without having to play boring matches after boring matches
9-Stronger foes I ccan beat may way it the gauntlet match like I am beating my 4 year old cousin in lehend mode
10-A story for tag teams that is really dramatic

Sorry for taking so long but I love the svr series and I dont want it to crash any more

    And sorry for the english

create a finisher should have been great...it wasn't but improving it would be cool. Most people i know who play it say the created character should have a better story mode as they don't care as much about the 'real' wrestlers story-wise. [edit] Also, ladder matches in 08 & 09 became a pain vs the comp because no matter what, even if you put them 100% in the red on all limbs & threw them from the top of the ladder, if there's more than 1 opponent the other would magically wake up when u climbed the ladder. That is a bad thing [/Edit]

What I want for the new SvR10 game would be:

    A GM Mode Again
    A Storyline for every fighter
    Actual storylines for Created Superstars
To unlock legends like Hulk, The Rock, Stone Cold, and Andre The Giant
More matches (i.e. Stretcher matches, and maybe something more creative similar to Inferno Matches.)

I would never put the game down if I could have these things.

09's career mode is very lame. theres no drama in it and you always get to have the upper hand over your opponents cause you can choose the match type and who you're goin to beat up. and besides collecting all thebelts like picking candy out of a vending machine is downright lame..no rankings, no backstage politics, no effort and no depth... how sad... coz these elements made the smackdown franchise immortal. if thq does'nt want to inject a story in to the career mode then bring back an enhanced gm mode. or they can pick somethin up from (smackdown know your role) or (here comes the pain). despite of not having any audio, the career mode is still compelling and exciting and not to mention deep...and the cas... which is one of the strong points of this game has also been slipping down... theres no fun in creating a wrestler that has full stats, you got to have some weaknessess to make your match exciting and challenging,if you have perfect submission stats, you can make an opponent tap out with yellow limb damage,i think they overlooked this in the game, and imagine a super heavyweight moving like a luchador...ho hum...stupid...in games like these, you got to have micro-management of stats. how sad that the best damn wrestling game that we came to love is slowly declining. maybe the game should be overhauled and restarted in a way that would bring back the "F"(fun factor) in WWE.
