Dragon Age dawns Oct. 20

EA and BioWare's long-in-the-making fantasy RPG confirmed for simultaneous 360, PS3, PC launch this fall.

Under different circumstances, PC gamers could at this very moment be playing BioWare's latest epic fantasy role-playing game, Dragon Age: Origins. However, as told by EA CEO John Riccitiello, the game was shaping up to be so epic in scale, quality, and innovation that Dragon Age would be better served if the PC launch coincided with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 debuts later in the year.

At the time, Riccitiello noted, "Too much quality can make you reassess your options." Options thus reassessed, BioWare confirmed for GameSpot today that the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC editions of Dragon Age: Origins will be released on October 20.

BioWare went all but completely dark on Dragon Age following its initial reveal way back in May 2004. The game, which has been called a spiritual successor to BioWare's acclaimed Baldur's Gate franchise, resurfaced in late-2007, when EA bought out BioWare and Pandemic as part of an $860 million deal.

Since then, BioWare has been far chattier about its fantasy role-playing game. For more information, check out GameSpot's extensive coverage of Dragon Age: Origins.

This game is definitely epic, I've been waiting for a game like this forever. Baldur's Gate was a master piece, no doubt that this will be a match for that title.

Can't wait for this game, but they are obveously delaying the PC version just to make more sales from the Christmas rush.

I'm so glad I don't have to hear PC gamers brag about how they got it first, now us 360 gamers get it at the same time as everyone else XD. Just in time for my birthday!

I reserved this game back in February when the release date for the PC version was March 27th. It just irks me that I have to wait an extra 7 months to play this game, when I could be playing it now on my sweet PC. I just hope that they're using the time to improve all versions of the game, and not just using it to make ports to the PS3 and 360.

I'm looking forward to it, and think that everyone should have a chance to play. Console ports are important, but I want it sooo badly right now.

I wish Bioware would release some kind of list of system requirements for the PC version. If it's going to be $10 cheaper and come with mod tools, I'd like to know if it will be playable on my computer.

Maybe the PC Dragon Age team members will spend this time working on a short demo? I won't hold my breath :-P

Good move by EA. This way no one feels left out and everything feels new for everyone at the same time. No one likes to play second fiddle to the main attraction.

This is a much anticipated game especially for the consoles. It's in good hands and should prove to be an excellent game. Loved Baldur's Gate and still own it.

"the game was shaping up to be so epic in scale, quality, and innovation that Dragon Age would be better served if the PC launch coincided with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 debuts later in the year."

Biggest load of crock I've heard this decade.

    Posted May 30, 2009 4:49 am GMT

Ah well, at least it looks truly epic. 'll let EA off this time -- at least they scrapped SecuROM for D'Origins
However, I'm dubious about this on consoles.... Sadly, this will lead on the 360 (duh), and that's a crime against all of us old time Infinity Engine/NeverWinter Nights fans.

What a let down for PC gamers. It is sad that PC games such as this, are now at the mercy of consoles ports just because money grabbing companies like EA wants to cash in more on each platform. This is the second time it has been delayed, sigh.

I have high expectations for this game. Sure, judging by the videos, the graphics don't look as top of the line as they could be, but the action depicted on-screen is enough to make me salivate. Plus its bioware, so I'm stoked for a great and compelling story. Hurry up october!

For the people who feel that releasing the pc version with the other consoles is a horrible 'business' idea then you need a reality check. EA and Bioware know the business and they know how to make money. If the PC version is released early than the console sales will be crippled, because the demand will not be as high. The reason is that ports DO NOT sell as well as new releases and that is casual gamers will think of it.

Just be happy that you are going to get a huge game that is totally worth the wait.

Too much quality? So they delayed the PC version to make it worse? Releasing the PC version with console releases will just hurt PC sales.

I can't wait for this. It'll be incredible to see what Bioware can come up with after all these years of straying from the medieval fantasy setting.

Since I no longer buy games for my PC, I'm kinda happy they don't get it first while I sit and read all the remarks of how fun and great the game is. Misery loves company! Now sit and wait just like me lol. Game is going to be great.

So...instead of letting PC gamers get it first and start even more buzz for people who would rather get it on 360 and PS3..they're gonna make us all wait? I don't see the logic behind the decision.
