THQ to open Homefront, Red Dawn director writing

360, PS3, and PC FPS coming from Frontlines maker Kaos Studios; Apocalypse Now screenwriter John Milius penning story, set in North Korea-occupied US in 2027.

Back in March, reports surfaced that THQ was hiring for its wholly owned subsidiary Kaos Studios, the team behind Frontlines: Fuel of War, to work on an as-yet-unannounced project. Details of the game were not revealed, but job listings for the studio indicated that they were at work on a first-person shooter using "a world-class brand."

Today, THQ has revealed the game as Homefront, a story-driven first-person shooter set in the year 2027. Penned by Apocalypse Now screenwriter and Medal of Honor: European Assault director John Milius, the game takes place 10 years after the economic collapse of the United States, when the American Civil Resistance fights to reclaim the homeland from the North Korean Occupation. (Apparently this week's nuclear sabre-rattling was just the start.) The scenario is also reminiscent of Milius' 1984 film Red Dawn, which follows a band of teen resistance fighters after the US is invaded and occupied by the Soviet Union and its Cuban and Nicaraguan allies.

Fighting will take place in the disused malls and city streets of a crumbling America, and THQ has promised an "interactive and cinematic FPS experience." Players will also be able to take command of wide variety of aerial and ground vehicles, as well as an infantry role. There will also be a multiplayer mode, though no details were announced.

THQ gave no launch date for Homefront, but did say that new information about the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC game will be unveiled at the forthcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo. For more details, check out GameSpot's E3 coverage live from Los Angeles starting on Monday, June 1.

Yea right...North Korea...I thought I was dreaming when I saw the flag in the trailer at the end showing Home (American flag) Front (N. Korean flag). They've got so little oil their tanks will barely make it past the DMZ, and they're supposed to have ships to transport their troops to America without being destroyed by the USN Seventh Fleet and United States Forces Korea and USF Japan?? Economic collapse or not, I call BS on this one

WOW. Thats not unbelievable at all! I am sure something the size of a booger could invade and occupy something the size of a candy bar. Especially considering North Korea's up-to-date ground mechanized force. Ohh wait...

I could be wrong, the whole game could just be a hunt for a Rogue SK commando... but all you really do is drink the local deer blood and pee into your radiator. Starring Martin Sheen and the corpse of Marlin Brando, and the corpse of Charlie Sheen... what? Charlie Sheen is ALIVE?! Have you SEEN 2 &1/2 men? If that's alive, I want to be dead.

@Clinton015: No no.. you miss the point. This is a detailed Sim. In the first 30 minutes, the DPRK fires a low yield "fatman" type mortor at the South Koreans, and probably a missile headed towards (but only PROBABLY hitting japan).

After that, you play as both the CO & XO on a Boomer! You spend 2 minutes authenticating orders, then nuke the DPRK.

The rest of the game is just played by staring at the ruins of southeast asia and wondering, "why?!?". Yep... surefire hit.

THE PRECEEDING WAS SARCASM... for those who can't seem to get that.

This seems to have all the ingredients to become great. And North Korea has one of the best armies in the world, with soldiers up to one million, that's one militarized country; never underestimate that. Even with better resources and technologies, USA already learned that sometimes it's not enough (lol). I believe the North Korean army stands somewhere in the top 5 today, and if USA doesn't deviate to "other means" it could be a pretty even conflict. Of course, actually occupy a country so far away, in this case, would a whole other story completely. No nuclear artillery taken in consideration.

Ooh, touchy subject matter. I wonder how long it'll be before some uber-suspicious group of soccer moms or PTSD-affected war vets decides to get huffy about this one too, just like Six Days in Fallujah.

The only way North Korea could invade the USA is if they allied with China or some other country. They wouldn't have the economy, manpower and military resources, otherwise. Of, course this game takes place ten years after a economic collapse in the USA, so maybe somehow the US military was incapacitated by it. No money to build more nukes and buy more guns. Also, since the economy collapsed and the US army is a volunteer organization that doesn't pay it's soldiers enough, people would be too worried about surviving to join it. It could be like the Great Deppression with tent cities all over the place. People would be out of work and morale would be very low. The USA would be ripe for an invasion, from any hostile nation. Well, at least those are my ideas about how this game could work. I wonder what the game devs came up with. I hope it's a good game. It sounds fun.

I'm living in South Korea right now and I can say that not even SK is worried, and they share a border with North Korea! North Korea should ditch their nuclear program and focus on building giant robots...

For any person who has been wondering about North Korea's supposed nuclear prowess: North Korea, recently having detonated one of the smallest, low grade, nuclear devices on known modern record, still does not have the technology to mount a nuclear device upon a war-head. Their missile technology, supposedly, is terribly inaccurate and flawed. Note that the recent and 2006 detonations of nuclear devices by the North Korean government were underground--like those undertaken, (no pun intended,) by the government of The United States of America in Nevada State.

Hold on a second, please: how does an illiterate, communist, famished, unindustrialized (with out electricity, except for the capital city of Pyongyang,) nation invade and hold the greatest empire of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty first centuries--our United States of America? The Soviet Union reuniting and being granted a seat with The United Nations Security Council is more likely.

I could totally understand China occupying the US. But come on! How the hell a country of 23 million would be able to occupy us for more than week is beyond me. Hell, in WiC we took on an entire Russian expeditionary force with a brigade of National Guard (and 1 nuke) and won. Give us a little credit THQ.

    @DangerClown:

Not if they invade through California Granted, they would still have to deal with the Sandy Naval Base and the USS Missouri(I think it's the Missouri, I know we have one of the two Iowas "stationed" in Sandy).

Please, for the love of gods, stop re-making movies. Iv'e had enough. Here is a tip for the Hollywood idiots: Use imagination, talent, and ART to make new movies. Not rehash old and used things. All the glory and beauty of movies, which is supposed to be an art form, is dying because of this crap trend.

It was a grate game btw played it 5 times and finished it all 5 times. If it works on vista i might play it again.
