New Modern Warfare 2 trailer revealed

New trailer showcases story and new locations; Russian ultranationalist unveiled as baddie.

Everything the world has seen thus far of Infinity Ward's upcoming Modern Warfare 2 has been a tease. The first trailer, released during the Game Developers Conference, showed almost nothing, while the second was unveiled earlier this month showing only a few seconds of gameplay, with a promise to unveil more on May 24. It looks like developer Infinity Ward has made good on that promise, with the trailer released today showing more than two minutes of gameplay and cutscenes from the upcoming sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Today's trailer--titled Reveal--seems to confirm the game's US/European Special Forces vs. rogue Russians storyline that carries on from the first Modern Warfare, with the trailer beginning with a flashback of your final encounter with Imran Zakhaev. A new organisation has spread from the shadow of Zakhaev, it seems, led by the Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov. From there, the new trailer shows plenty of action, including a new location not hinted at before--the streets of Rio de Janeiro, where it looks like battle will occur on the streets, through some city slums, and even on low-lying rooftops.

Reveal also shows more of the snowmobile sections hinted at in the previous trailer, including a wicked-looking takedown of someone gunning at full acceleration on a snowmobile. It looks like Modern Warfare 2 will continue the first game's gritty tone: one scene shows hostages strapped with explosives, and another shows two soldiers prepping a car battery for use in torture while a bound prisoner with a black hood over his face squirms helplessly in a chair.

The trailer ends with an attack on what looks like a European castle, with the final shot being a first-person perspective of a soldier being rapidly lifted out of the ruined premises by a hovering helicopter (think the Hong Kong extraction scene in The Dark Knight). Modern Warfare 2 is due out for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on November 10.

    I hope it's more than just a 10 hour game. with DX 11 on it's way too. Yeah this going to be a fun pack with Creed II.

    THIS game is gonna be awesome. The graphics are better the sound the level design and running away civilians make it look even more awesome Infinity ward has nailed it. The only good thing about trayarch is they actually go ahead in the game like coop and nazi zombies but with IW they go for the gameplay/graphics. ANYway it looks absolutely briliant, gettin it on the day it come out!

    This COD will be the best one yet I belive. It seems we will have more adventure and I cant wait to see the kind of weapons we'll have. CANT WAIT!!!!

    I believe this game will make one major difference from its predecessor: "Story"
    And I am sure they will add more stuff to the multiplayer section of the game..
    But just of the back of my mind, I think they should do a full blown story&multiplayer FP's game (like the first COD for those who remember ) and do it in the 1960's "Vietnam" throw in a 60's style story and characters and more realistic gameplay features. Think it'll be nice no ?

    In my opinion, they dropped the COD part because they want to show they have nothing to do with Treyarch (developer of COD;WAW, COD3) or the COD website which is largely run by Treyarch. Anyway this trailer looks amazing! I was hoping for a new engine or new graphics or whatever you want call it though.(Please dont hate me fanboys) and there is a uncut version of the trailer on the MW2 site.

    great set pieces!!! a real COD for sure. to bad they drop the name and make a new franchise (modern warfare sounds a lot less exciting compare to call of duty)

    Meh, not a big fan of COD4/WAW really. COD1 was awesome but since then its been going down hill.

    IMO there are alot of better online FPS out there then COD (Team Fortress2, Rainbow6:Vegas 2, Left4Dead and Counterstrike Source and Halo3 imo).

    this looks like a rainbow six game, COD is losing what is great about it big rural and urban battlefields and no-one really wants to save civilians when you can kill lots of ruskies and taliban.

    Trailer looked like an action movie. It was really weird seeing it because they were on totally different places. Way different from CoD 4. The graphics are starting to be a bit dated. I hope they really have gameplay footage soon.

    Looked more like the trailer for an action movie to be honest. It looked pretty decent but the trailer doesn't give much away since it's mainly cut scenes.

    I thought the trailer was sort of weak. It had no gameplay footage and was no where near as cool as when GoW2 had their debut trailer on TV.

    Freaking...sweet. Glad to see an even better preview. Modern Warfar was my favorite of the series and this looks to simply improve on the concept.

    Terrorists again, how about some country v country battles, they are much more interesting than generic terrorist scenario 101, these kind of storylines have been done since the original rainbow six, and they are not interesting anymore.

    I think they just showed us all 13 cutscenes in the game lol. I doubt we get to do 1/10 of what we think we do. They showed a clip of a guy shooting on the snowmobile in first person so I'm sure we get to do that but everything else looks like cutscenes. I have a feeling this game is going to disappoint a lot of people but then again everyone wants to play the multiplayer. Trailer did look nice though.

    o and to anyone who is saying the campaign was to short.....play it on veteran and tell me how long it takes you? Veteran is the only way to play! i got 1000/1000 on COD4 cant wait to do it again with this game!!!
