Tatsunoko vs. Capcom confirmed for US, EU

Publisher's latest cross-brand fighter to be shown off alongside Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at E3 in June, will be Wii-exclusive.

Toward the end of April, Capcom laid out its plans for the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is set to descend upon the Los Angeles Convention Center June 1-4. Along with confirming the appearance of high-profile titles such as Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Dark Void, the publisher teased the exhibition of two mystery projects.

Today, one of those mystery titles lost its incognito status, as Capcom confirmed via its official blog that cross-brand fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars will see release in North America exclusively for the Wii. The game was originally released in December in Japan, but its release status in other regions had been called into question due to a complicated network of character-licensing issues.

Not unlike Capcom's popular Marvel vs. Street Fighter series, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars pits a number of characters from two popular franchises against one another. The game's Japanese release saw nine characters from Tatsunoko Productions' various anime franchises join the same number of fighters from Capcom's stable.

In Japan, Capcom's roster included the likes of Street Fighter greats Ryu and Chun-Li, as well as Morrigan of Darkstalkers fame, Okami's Yami, and Viewtiful Joe. The Tatsunoko roster of anime characters in Japan included Ken the Eagle and Jun the Swan from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Tekkaman from Tekkaman: The Space Knight, and Gold Lightan of Golden Warrior Gold Lightan.

Capcom promises to deliver more information on the US release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars in the coming weeks leading up to E3.

Update: Capcom has since confirmed to GameSpot that the title will be coming to the Wii in Europe as well, with more details about the EU release promised at E3.

    There is a God out there, and his name is Seth Killian. When I first heard that this was going to be a Japan-only release, I was po'ed because the PS3/360 owners were getting all the good fighters (SFIV, SCIV, KOFXII, T6) and I'd be stuck playing Brawl for the rest of my life (no offense to Brawl; it's still a great game). Now that this game is coming over here, you can only imagine how many joyful tears I'm shedding. Kudos to Seth and all the guys at Capcom for making a miracle happen. BTW, is it too late to make a request for Speed Racer?

    So... who wants to join me in a group shout of "YESH!"?

    @kiramasaki
    PS3 has the best controls for fighting games comapred to the Wii and 360.

    Except..... Nintendo created the Classic Controller, which beats the PS3 in terms on Fighting Games, because the Classic Controller is based on the SNES Controller! 360 is the WORST when it comes to Fighting Games, because the 360 is designed for shooters, NOT FIGHTING GAMES!

    Those games mentioned are hyped.... just becaused it's Hyped doesn't mean it's a great game!

    But RE4 is better than 5

    Considering the difficulties it must have taken for Capcom to get this game outside of Japan, this is pretty cool news! I think a lot of people were disappointed when they found out that this game had next-to-no chance of reaching North America and/or Europe, myself included, so I have to give a lot of credit to Capcom for pulling this off.

    Looking forward to being able to get my hands on it one day! Thank you Capcom!

    @bluefalcon

    what you are basing whether a console is designed for a game based on the controller, have you seen the wii mote its not exactly for fighters either, if your argument is based on the controller than ps3 has the best controller for fighter followed closely by xbox 360

    and i know you are not in your right mind, granted re 5 is not as good as 4, but bioshock and dead space were both beast games, especially bioshock with the story and atmosphere, there is honestly no way you could say these games suck with a straight face

    @shabulia

    As you see, why it's Wii-Only is because it's suppose to be Japan-Only! Capcom tried propa hard to release this game outside Japan! In Japan, do you know what's the best-selling 7th Gen home console? The Wii, and this game cannot run on the PS2 because the Arcade-Board is made for Wii!

    360/PS3 owners got theire "hard-earned" Marvel vs Capcom 2, it does deserve a Wii Release, except Marvel are such *** that they would only allow the game to be released as a DLC!, and it's size can't fit as a Wii Ware title..

    I'll only agree w/ ya if Capcom released:

    -A Tatsunoko vs Capcom TE Arcade Stick for Wii (like the SF4TE Stick)
    -Street Fighter 4 - On Wii
    -Resident Evil 5 - On Wii
    ....and a lot more......

    I bet I won't know any of the Tatsunoko characters, but I don't really care about that. Honestly, I didn't know a lot of the Marvel characters in MvC2 either (wasn't a hardcore comicbook kid growing up. I've read a few), but that didn't stop me from wanting to play with em. From the stuff I've seen from this one, it has the potential of being one of my fav fighting games. We'll see.

    See, I knew I'd get the thumbs down from a lot of you. You people aren't understanding my point. I'm not saying this game shouldn't be on the Wii. I think it's good for the Wii to finally get some hardcore gaming love. I'm just saying that it should be on the other two systems as well in order for the game to be successful in America. As for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the Wii is more than powerful enough to house such a game so let Nintendo fans get their love of that game on too.

  • Asagea_888

    I agree with nini200.

    With all due respect to those who doubt the Wii, you should be happy that you can play Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter IV, SSHDTRemix, and KOF12 because the Wii may never get those games. Instead of complaining, you need to respect the decision that Capcom has made because it gives Wii owners a great opportunity to have something like this to play on their console. And if it does get ported to the 360 and PS3, great. Until then, please just move forward.

    Samurai Shodown 4 (Samurai Shodown Anthology)
    As SearchBomber said, KOF 98 (Kof Orochi Saga)
    Super Street Fighter 2 (Wii VC)

    Anyway, can we all get over this? It's not coming to other consoles. The Wii didn't get SF4 and KOF 12 (even after all the Wii fans begged for it) so this isn't coming to other platforms no matter how much the 360/PS3 fans beg for it. End of story. Move on.

    I just don't understand how this will work on the Wii. Online support for the Wii is totally lacking in a game like this, the control options are terrible for a game like this, and the leading demographic for a game like this is on the other two systems. Sure, Nintendo fanboys will knock me and give me lots of thumbs down marks but look at the majority of people buying games on the Wii; moms buying for little kids and older people looking for a gimmick. The main demographic for this particular kind of game is on the 360 and PS3. It won't sell as well as it would if it were on all three systems. That way, the hardcore fighting fans could give it the attention it deserves. In America, on the Wii, this game will just not reach its target audience.

    @shaun

    ur right, there aren't many good fighting games for the Wii (I think SSB is fun) but then there aren't many good fighting games for any of the big 3 consoles. SF4 had the biggetst budget of any fighting game for the big 3 and while it is fun, i think they tried way too hard--it dosen't hold a candle too many of the great side scrolling fighters. I hope ur right. I hope this game sees a release to all 3 consoles so everyone can enjoy it.

    I haven't had time to read through allll these post, but i really really really would like to have someone point out a fighting game for the wii that is any good. Seriously, name one, i implore you. Go ahead and say Super Smash Bros, that would be the obvious choice for a nintendo fanboy. Name a Respectable Fighting Game. The wii is a gimmick of a system, and this game is not a game that is going to sell a whole lot to the casual gamer crowd. Way to go capcom. This is a terrible idea on their part, and i would totally expect to see a ps3 and xbox port by this time next year.
