'Call of Duty 7' already 'in production'

Treyarch animator's resume lists development of reportedly Cold War-set game as being "currently" under way; 2010 release date expected.

Last week, rumors surfaced that Activision was working on "Call of Duty 7," the next chapter in the wildly popular first-person shooter series. They stemmed from a report on That Videogame Blog, which said that the publisher was looking for "Vietnam War-era tunes, as well as Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music."

Besides hinting that the game might be set in some of the many guerrilla-conflict hotspots of the Cold War, the now-pulled report indicated that Treyarch was once again developing. The report made sense, given the annual alternation of Infinity Ward and Treyarch's Call of Duty projects--and the fact that the game formerly known as Call of Duty 6 is now the Call of Duty-less spin-off Modern Warfare 2.

Now comes further proof that Treyarch is already hard at work on a new entry in the series. According to the LinkedIn resume of an animator at the shop (name withheld), "Call Of Duty 7" is listed as "currently in production." Activision reps had not responded to requests for comment about Treyarch's current project as of press time.

The resume offers no other details on Call of Duty 7, including platforms, ratings, or a release date. However, given that Modern Warfare 2 is due out November 10, 2009, a fall 2010 release date appears likely. If the past two games are a precedent, an M for Mature rating and multiplatform release are also all but assured.

    I guess it doesn't matter that MW2 and Black OPs are still very recent. COD has simply become a Cash Cow. New game... moo... map pack... moo... map pack... moo... new game.... moo... map pack... moo... Milk it baby! Milk it!
    Yet most of us consumers just keep buying essentially the same game every year because it's newer. Yet, there are super awesome games like Burnout Paradise that has an awesome 3.5 year life span already and they've had some cool updates and dlc that've kept it fresh... so I can even put the game down for months and pick it up again anytime and it's still online and cool, and I don't have three older versions of burnout that just collect dust... you know. Oh well. They'll just keep milking the Cash Cow (and therefore, milk the consumers) as long we let them.

    This cod will be much better as mw2 didnt require much skill with every weapon been fully auto ready for tards to unleash with a combination of single shot and auto weapons this is sure to be a blast. Even if there are a lot of auto weapons they will probably have a lot of recoil so everyone will be gay snipers.

    Well, whenever I am on Xbox Live, which is everyday, I only play Modern Warfare 2. If you ask me I think that it is the best game that has ever came out for any console.I think it is the God of games honestly.And who is to take the blame besides Infinity Ward. Nobody!: therefore, Since Treyarch is the main producer of thisame it will not be as good. I will see how this works.

    I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this comes out. MW2 disappointed me, mainly in multiplayer. But this might be worth buying for once, if it doesn't cost 60 bucks for PC and we get free map DLC.

    I'd like to see the civilian view in the upcoming CoD game. Just a man defending his country with maybe a hunting rifle or a shotgun for maybe just 1 small level

    i'd like to see a WWI game. not seen that yet. seen WWII, 1 civil war that i know of, modern, and a few vietnam games.

    I believe that Treyarch makes much better COD games than Infinity Ward and one of the reasons is because they're based on epic wars like WWI and WWII.I personally think that COD7 will be A LOT better than MW2!

    I agree with the ones who think that the new game will be great; I even had an uncle who was in the vietnam war and he claims he did combat missions against the Pathet Lao (Laoatian viet-cong) and the French might appear for levels that might involve Dien Bien Phu. I think that this game should include the Ia Drang valley, Hue, Operation Kentucky (Con Thien), Dak To,etc. I'm really getting tired of the Modern Warfare. Those who disagree are idiots and are ungreatful to those who fought and died in those battles to stop the commies: the americans ,ANZAC (australia and new- zeland deserve credit), the SAS, & the ARVN. I rest my case and hope this has a story line similar to We Were Soldiers.

    lets see. Call of Duty 1-3 were set in WWII. Call of Duty 4 was modern warfare. there has yet to be a Call of Duty 5. All we get are expansions/ mods for 4. By the way, why not Call of Duty: Medeval Warfare or Call of Duty: Revolutionary Warfare or Civil Warfare? i get tired of automatic weapons why not WWI?

    I wouldn;t mind a Cold War era like COD game. Vietnam would be a lot of fun because hell, that was when the M16 was introduced. I just know that Treyarch will throw in Zombies b/c it was a huge success in W@W, why would they NOT put it in? The sad thing is, majority of the ppl will still be playing MW2. Same deal with MW1 and W@W. Majority still played COD4.

    This game is going to be the best yet. They need to make zombies even more amazing. More perks, modern weapons, and more traps. They should make multiple maps. Hopefully around 10 maps for zombies and make a storyline behind it. Also it would be cool to be able to play with up to 10 friends at once. Vietnam should be fun for the campaign as we will see new scenery and different environments. Cod 7 is going to be amazing and its will probably come out in November 10 or somewhere around there.     If they do make a Vietnam war game, they better make it like they did with the World War II games and make it historic and accurate and exciting as possible. They better not forget the Guerillas (Hmong Army) who helped the US.

    why would it be cold war era? Cold war means a war with no fighting, you should have just stuck with Vietnam era.

    Well I have CoD4: Reflex for the Wii and was disappointed when they didnt release CoD6 for the Wii. People play it you know! But what i wanted to say about CoD7, I think its great theyre going into the Vietnamese age. But if there is one thing im getting VERY tired of right now in real life is guerilla warfare. They should go back to the Civil War or maybe WW1, THAT would be AWESOME. You could make a whole story line out of life in the trenches. And they could do it form the German viewpoint instead of the Allies. I hope gamespot maybe suggests that to treyarch!

    i have the cod 4, w.a.w., and modern warfare 2. all of them are really great games. cod 4 gave us the touch of things that are going on now were w.a.w showed us things of the past; the way it probably really was and codmw 2, slightly on the futuristic side, but still a great game. the new one to come out, # 7 was supposed to be based out of Vietnam. the way i see it base it from ANYWERE ELSE but there. this is one game i don't see doing well. if anything i see the new medal of honor blowing # 7 out of the water till cod # 8 is reliced to continue the story of Soap and Price.

    there could be no accurate games of the cold war... look at world in conflict very emotional and cinematic visuals are good yes but those arnt as important as the voice acting the story and game play . basicly its a what if the cold war erupted?

    COD7 will have blood & gore, because treyarch made COD5.

    And the odds are they'll keep zombies going, IW couldn't because it's not trademarked with them.

    Personally , WWII never gets old for me. Beat COD1 multiple times, it's ALOT harder on the campaign and ALOT longer.

    I have high hopes for COD7. Dont let us down treyarch!!!
