First Modern Warfare 2 footage airs, full reveal coming May 24

TV spot shows snowmobile, scuba-diving missions in sequel to 13-million-unit best-seller; "world premiere" coming in two weeks during Eastern Conference NBA finals on TNT.

The first trailer for Modern Warfare 2 made a point of not showing any footage from the game. Instead, it relied on sound cues to drop hints of an attack by Russian-speaking terrorists on an airport where English was spoken. In fact, other than the game's existence, the only major revelation in the trailer was that the Infinity Ward-developed game had split off from the Call of Duty franchise--which Treyarch is reportedly taking into the Cold War era.

Luckily, this weekend offered gamers watching the NBA playoffs a chance to see Modern Warfare 2 in action for the first time. A 15-second spot--now viewable on YouTube--confirmed that the sequel would have a US/UK-vs.-Russian scenario similar to that of the 13-million-unit best-seller Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The clip begins with several Hughes MH-6 Little Bird helicopters dropping off a US Special Forces unit onto an air base in a frozen landscape. That landscape is apparently Russian, given that subsequent clips show a MIG-29 fighter-bomber exploding amid what appear to be soldiers in former Soviet bloc uniforms.

The trailer then goes on to show some new scenarios not playable in Call of Duty 4. Shots reveal an underwater mission with several commandos decked out in scuba gear and a snowmobile chase ending in a spectacular crash. The clip ends with a night-vision shot from what appears to be a guided bomb closing in on a solitary figure, closing with the announcement, "world premiere May 24 [during the] Eastern Conference Finals [on TNT]."

    Same crap.....just better graphics. Just like the stupid zombie games (Left 4 Dead series.....ZZzzsssst!!) it's time to move on with MW series. Just like Madden NFL series..........how much more of the same thing are we going to have shell [$$$] out for?!

    At first I thought it was gonna be the SEALs and the SAS vs. Russia but now I see the MH-6 so it may be SAS and US Army SpecOps.

    I hope they put a separate weapon system for different factions this time. Like if i'm a "terrorist" it wouldn't be right for me to have access to special forces weapons.

    A melee system would be awesome, but really I'm looking for that balance too in realism and when I shoot someone in the head I want the gore from fallout 3 or World at war...because nine times outta ten you shoot someone in the head with a Barret 50.cal their heads going in a million piece even if it gets remotely close to the head its still taking a chunk out. But other than that gimmie fuel gimmie fire gimmie that which I desire...or in the case of call of duty gimmie gore gimmie cqc gimmie a great game b*%ches

    It may have been mostly cut scene, but It did seem to be all in game graphics. I don't imagine this game letting us down too much, from what I've seen. The ONLY thing that sucked about the first CoD:MW was that it was too short. What a way to solve that problem by making a sequel. Can't wait to see more of this one.

    I agree with Pizzaman103, except Call Of Duty 4 was not so great. I mean when you shoot someone dead on the ground, dust flies, is that so realistic as people say it is? I don't think so. And it didn't deserve its M rating either. Not too much blood. Call of Duty 5 however, deserves it M rating. Stabbing people couldn't have been more fun. I hope Treyarch and Infinity balance it out so it will actually be realistic. And also, it would be fun if the online play will feature vehicles, land-based only. Oh and, Modern Warfare 2 is sort of a cheesy title or a game. I would recommend something else. But overall it looks action packed.

    I would love to see some kind of original IP from Treyarch, I really would. It seems that they are only changers, not creators.

    Um, Treyarch is second best at making COD games because... they... are the only other company that makes them... yeah. If you even want to call those effing games.

    The only 'original' thing Treyarch has done was Spidey: Web of Shadows. The web slinging felt so natural compared to the others (but it was still pretty crappy). WaW was only any good because they got to use Infinity's engine. Otherwise, it's just crap. They did nothing good with the franchise.

    I'm not saying that I'm worried about the name change, it's ok... I'm just saying that they could spend a few seconds on a trailer, or a few letters on a web site, paying "some kind of tribute" to the CoD name... like... call me extreme conservative, but the CoD series was Infinity Ward's pride till the last game. For me, it kinda feels like "spitting on the plate you ate" ...

    Are you doofus's going to seriously worry about a new name, If I'm not mistaken wasn't the first Call of Duty 4 called Modern Warfare...and instead of putting a mouthful of words in your mouth they simply just said hey lets call this one Modern Warfare 2 simply ..and they added a 2 so you'd know its a sequel to the first one or a round about sequel anyhow because we really don't know whats in store other than its russia again this time. But either way most of us are going to still be up countless hours trying to get to the 5101'th prestige for no aparent reasons other than your bragging rights and it's still going to be the years best seller. Unless of course they cut out multiplayer or cancel the game all together but that's not going to happen. It's still going to be a solid shooter and the best at fast pace multiplayer first person tactical fighting maybe with a little bit of Cqc or some other elements involved. Can't wait till this launches.
