Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne won't be the only cross-media promotion that EA and BioWare commission for the Canadian developer's upcoming fantasy role-playing game. Following on from the David Gardner-penned prequel novel's debut in March, EA today unveiled plans to bring BioWare's newest universe to the realm of pen-and-paper tabletop gaming.

Green Ronin Publishing has been tasked with development on the P&P RPG, which is expected to be available at "card shops, book, and comic retailers" this summer. The game company's previous credits include work on the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Black Company, and Thieves' World tabletop RPGs.

EA did not delve into specific details on the Dragon Age: Origins P&P RPG, saying only that it "extends the Dragon Age universe." Green Ronin plans to offer the initial game as part of a boxed set when it releases in the coming months, with additional sets and supplemental books planned for future release.

Dragon Age: Origins proper is expected to arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

This is an ambitious venture. Bioware is really putting some serious effort and money into this game. It must be something else and looking forward to its release.

They're also working the Song of Ice & Fire RPG, since Guardians of Order bit the big one. Also hi, Ranger_REG. Didn't know you hung out here too, I know you from the WotC forums.

And yeah they owe a lot to WotC for the d20SRD for M&M - I've played the demo version of ASOIAF and found their d20 material much stronger.

So we are going to have books, a table top game... and yet NO game?! please... push the milking until at least after the IP deserves some of it...

Sorry, 3e is way better than 2e. The last thing I want is to deal with some PC's with character kits (with unbalanced Special Benefits and Special Hindrances) and some without. That and I'm scarred by the THAC0 formula.

Having said that, I prefer third-parties take of the d20 System than WotC's own model. I like the out-of-the-box thinking approach to the ruleset. May ticked off some rules lawyers game conformists but it offers modular flexibility.

Besides, Green Ronin did owed their start-up business properity to d20 (google "Freeport"). Of course, with the way WotC's treating third-party publishers with the debut of 4e, GR is better off sticking with their own take of the next-generation d20 System, a la True20, courtesy of the Open Game License and the 3.5e SRD.

    nurse_tsunami,

It won't be with 4th Edition d20 rules since Green Ronin is not publishing anything for them, and I do not think anyone is publishing anything new with the 3rd edition d20 rules. It will either be an all-new system or it will use Green Ronin's modification of the d20 rules that they call True20.

@nurse_tsunami D20 is a gimped over powered system it allows players to become too powerful too fast. you should try something else there are so many good systems out there give them a try sometime, Warhammer Fantasy was a excellent P&P system Call of cthulhu was a awesome percentile system very easy to learn, RIFTS and Shadowrun. If all else fails and you like D&D do second edition D&D man. I DM all those and D20 was the worse for both players and DMs

Interesting, but I wonder what system they will use for this game. I am hoping for a D20 system only because that is what I am most familiar with. I am curious about why they went with Green Ronin though. Personally I think I would have tried to have Paizo develop it as a setting for their upcoming rule set.

Might be interesting, although I don't play tabletop RPG's. Really excited for the video game, though.
