For the past three years, Blizzard Entertainment's legions of fans have gathered for the annual BlizzCon convention in Southern California. Today, the developer-publisher announced that tickets for its 2009 event, to be held August 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will go on sale on Saturday, May 16. Each ticket will cost $125--a $25 markup on the admission price of last year's event, held last October.
Despite the hefty entrance fee, there's little question as to whether anyone will show up for BlizzCon 2009. The 2008 event sold out in a matter of hours, with crushing demand bringing the Blizzard Store down for the better part of a day. The problems resulted in more tickets eventually being raffled off.
This year, BlizzCon organizers are hoping to stave off any problems by offering a second block of tickets on May 30. The Blizzard Store has also been upgraded with "a first-come, first-served queue system and a fixed time limit for completing purchases" to make purchasing more efficient. Those eager to attend the event can also preregister their personal information at Battle.net to expedite purchases later. The event will also be viewable on DirectTV and Internet pay-per-view for $39.95.
