Wet splashes down at Bethesda

Elder Scrolls firm confirmed as new publisher for Artificial Mind and Movement's stylised shooter; Eliza Dushku to voice lead character.

The fallout from the Activison Blizzard merger left several Vivendi Games titles without a publishing home. However, nearly all have since been picked up by other publishers, with Ghostbusters: The Video Game and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena landing at Atari and Brutal Legend finding a home at EA, to name a few.

One title that was still lacking a publisher, however, was Artificial Mind and Movement's third-person shooter, Wet. Last week, it appeared as if that situation was soon to be rectified, as many retailers had begun listing Bethesda Softworks as the game's publisher.

Today, Bethesda has confirmed that it is picking up the title, saying the game will arrive this autumn for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Wet is a heavily stylised third-person action game that takes the visual approach of retro films and directors like Quentin Tarantino. It will put the player in the role of Rubi Malone, a mercenary out for revenge.

The game will feature not only a retro look, but also retro sound, with '70s and '70s-inspired music running throughout the game. Rubi herself will be voiced by Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bring It On), who is no stranger to video game voice acting, having worked on Yakuza and the recent Saints Row 2.

Currently I'm moist... I'll be wet if the game stands up to scrutiny. Bethesda being willing to pick it up probably bodes well I'd say, so here's to hoping!

Couldn't of thought of another company other than Bethesda to pick this up

Eliza is perfect for this character, and she has a great voice for it. Can't wait for it. She rocks.

    @ LeoBrZ81

Bethesda are publishing Wet, not developing it. It shouldn't have any effect on their other projects.

Inspired by Tarantino movies; like that hasn't been done before. I will keep my eye on it but it doesn't sound particularly original to me.

If Bethesda is working on this, does this mean they're setting the next Elder Scrolls aside??

Though Bethesda is publishing this game I hope they put forward some of their ideas in the game. The heroine looks hot though.

Why the heck Bethesda would want this game? Bethesda is an expert at open-ended or semi-open-ended game, not an obvious slasher like this one.

Seems like a cool game, the controls and story have to really be good to pull it off though.

Well, always willing to keep an open mind.

And I'm eager to see an Elder Scrolls game too, guys, but this is just a publishing deal so don't worrying about it interfering with ES5's development. Though, personally, I'd like to see them get another Sea Dogs game out there -- or maybe even a new IP, like a game about a samurai that uses the Oblivion engine. That'd be nice.

I don't care about this game but Bethesda is only publishing. The game is developed by another company. Also I know they are gonna announce ES5 this E3. I'm more excited about the new Fallout, however!!!

As much as I'd like to be excited about this game..I'd be much more excited to hear about ES5 (please make it more like oblivion and less like fallout). However if they can pull this off it does look like a excellent game. *crosses fingers*

This guy really makes me nervous about the game. Anyone who says " its kinda like this from such and such movie" shows a real lack of knowledge about developing in my opinion. It sounds and feels like a movie title game, which are rarely good

And who is he kidding with all that mumbo about stylized action with swords and guns integrated? Ever heard of Devil May Cry?

  • okassar

I highly doubt The Elder Scrolls 5 will be out till the next generation of systems are here. This is the same thing that happened with TES3 & TES4.

I'm excited about this game..LOVE games with a variety combat gameplay (Hand-weapons, hand to hand, and gunplay). For those intersted, if this is something of your ilk, I recommend "Path of Neo." I really hope it's as deep as "Path of Neo" combat system, you could do just about anything in that game, including stealth kills, special attack multiple enemies, and disarm and counter moves. Come to think of it, I've yet to see a game this gen, that even comes close to the variety of combat-gameplay that Path of Neo had.

By the way the heroine of the game looks a bit like her.

Seems like some sort of branch off of the Devil May Cry series. Eager to see some game play footage.

Although I must admit, the initial reason I clicked on the article was because it mention "Elder Scrolls." ;D

For those asking what 'Wet' means, it is short for 'Wetworks'. Pretty much a slang term for assassinations, hired killing, etc.

I have the feeling that Dushku will be doing video game voice acting for characters like this for the next decade. She's perfect for it.
