What we heard: Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment's official Web site began running a teaser campaign that indicated that "an electrifying announcement" pertaining to inFamous and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would be made on Monday, April 27. However, it appears that the heavily hyped announcement has already been spoiled.

Gaming blog Screw Attack claims sources have informed it that Sony plans to unveil a number of Uncharted 2 details on Monday. First and foremost, the blog reports that Sony will offer the first glimpse of Uncharted 2's all-new multiplayer mode. Notably, Naughty Dog's original Uncharted: Drake's Fortune only included a single-player narrative when it debuted with solid reviews on the PlayStation 3 in 2007.

Noting that details remain sparse, the gaming blog said, "There is regular multiplayer and co-op missions that can be done, but the co-op in question is not the single-player campaign with another person." No other alleged details were revealed.

So how does inFamous tie in with Sony's reveal of Uncharted 2's multiplayer mode? Gaming blog Kotaku claims to have obtained a photo of the retail preorder placeholder boxes for Sucker Punch's inFamous. The photo prominently notes that not only will inFamous preorderers gain early access to the game's demo, but they'll also pick up a voucher for the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta upon purchase of the game.

The official story: Sony had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Corroborating evidence suggests this one is not bogus.

a multiplayer will just spoil the game's image , some games are meant to be single

I've never played Uncharted but seeing a new trend in games where almost every game has multi-player that almost always dies or is just never played. It just ticks me off.

People are worried about the inclusion of MP and Co-op because it can be taken as a sign of single-mindedness that continually ravages the industry. That means things can get repetitive. It's when Co-op becomes essential to enjoying the game that I really start to dissapprove since I like to do things at my own pace and explore on my own terms. Seperate co-op campaigns to to the main are just as bad, since it means having to put up with 2 or 3 other jerk-offs for a while unless they happen to be your friends, who'll still get on your butt for not doing things their way with them as you play. But you play it just to get your money's worth. Honestly U2 (lol) should stay single player that way all of Naughty Dog's intellectual and monetary power is aimed at one aspect that we expect to be excellent since what we know and love about the first one is all revolved around a single player game and game style. Sure versus MP should be fun, but at the same time, other games do it much better. This happened with MG Online, but it's inclusion didn't effect the single player aspect of MGS4 since it was by far the most important aspect of the final product.

Multiplayer details can be seen on the Joystiq website... sounds pretty sweet. Can't wait, and will definitely reserve inFamous so i can try out the MP beta. =)

The 1st Uncharted is still my favorite PS3 game, to date, so I’m really looking forward to the sequel.

I’m not so sure the game really needs competitive on-line, but co-op sounds interesting. I hope competitive on-line isn’t being added simply because of marketing, at the expense of the single player campaign.

That'll be great IF it's good. I mean, not all MP is created equally. Still, it could be a solid 3rd person MP--MGS 4 and Gears 2 show that 3rd person MP can be done. It's just that this has to measure up, or at least get pretty close. Only time will tell. In general though, this game looks awesome.

I only rent games that dont have multiplayer bc what else is there to do once you beat singleplayer???

I can take or leave the MP. I hope it is a worthy sequel to its predecessor. A little too run and gun for me but it drew me into the story and I really liked the character.

What's with all of the negative comments on this? As long as the single-player doesn't suffer, why does it matter if multiplayer is included? It's been confirmed that there is 3-player co-op which is a separate story, and then there is a death match and capture the treasure mode. I'm all for the co-op but will have to see how competitive fares. Either way, be grateful people!!!

*Yawn* Yet another token multiplayer that nobody will play after three weeks. Just what gaming needs. Why not focus on adding some more quality and variety to the single player campaign instead?

I am personally excited about multiplayer. The first Uncharted was awesome, but after running through gathering all the treasures, there's really very little replay value. A multiplayer component could be great if they do something fresh with it, and not turn it into a Gears of War clone. Personally, I'm much more inclined to buy a game with multiplayer and just rent games with just single player. I was planning on renting Resident Evil 5 a long time ago until they announced Co-op, and now I own it.

The first Uncharted was a fantastic game, and the second one had the potential to be amazing. Now I'm feeling extremely let down. Why does every single damn game have to have multiplayer? I enjoy multiplayer as much as the next guy, but seriously, some games are fine to stay singleplayer only.

People these days are too demanding for such things. And this is why sequels to popular singleplayer games are almost always a letdown, because developers give in and tack on a multiplayer component. I just hope I'm wrong and that if multiplayer is added to this game, it won't ruin what it could have been.

  • TBI33

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 11:05 pm GMT

I don't like how all the new game sequels are getting multiplayer patched on. Both Bioshock and Uncharted were great games. Why do you need multiplayer?

  • ThaDirtySouth

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 10:34 pm GMT

It's a "beta" because it's not on the DVD yet. Semantics. Gamers enjoy free demos for their 5 dollars, but gamers enjoy "exclusive betas" even more for their 5 dollars.

  • mouthforbathory

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 9:16 pm GMT

I hate how they call multiplayer demos "Betas" now. Betas are not suppose to be available to the mass general public, but to maybe a few thousand users max. Not a few hundred thousand, because of those few hundred thousand almost all of them don't know jack about reporting and testing what they are trying out like users in a real Beta. Console betas =/= Beta. Quit calling it a beta MS and Sony, they are essentially demos because even demos are part of the evaluation and feedback process.

i can totally see online matches for Uncharted a la gears of war, except maybe with some platforming to reach better sniping spots
disappointing that the co-op will not be following the original storyline though

and if it was tacked on they would mention it on like the last minute but they've announced it like what 5 6months before the games release date naughty dog said it themselves that they want to make and awesome single player experience also its going to be twice as long as uncharted so imagine unchated 2 12-14hours long all the replay value from the 1st game(skins, unlockable weapons,trophies/tresures/etc) plus and online multiplayer its a cherry on top it could be a complete game we should thank naughty dog for this im going to get controversial here ..uncharted 2 is going to be as good as metal gear solid 4 and that game was AWESOME!!!

alot of people are complaining about this theres alot of skeptism towards this saying that it wouldnt fit in...but do you not see the potential in this ? picture this
    pirates v mercanaries 10 player
if they have all the game mechanics (swinging.hanging, shimmying) it could be pretty unique
imagine your running through a level next minute you get gunned down by some guy hangin from a ledge or you have a sniper rifle you clime up a roof...some pretty sweet shots also the hand to hand combat there could be more depth to that other than just pressing a button to melee someone it could be pretty unique

  • xBlindx

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 8:26 am GMT

Co-op is a great idea, but there are other multiplayer games such as MW2 coming out that will have the multiplayer aspect of gaming done really well, so I can't see this becoming a big hit to the multiplayer community. Should have focused on the SP more, but it still looks great.

Wanna sell inFamous...Just package it with anything Uncharted and then it will sell, but this is a double edged sword. Fans of Uncharted did not want change, and they are adding a lot of change here. Only time will tell if Uncharted 2 has been ruined due to MP and co-op play, but until it's release the gaming community will be full of skepticism. Bad news / Good news...any news will draw ppl's attentions, but if this sequel doesn't bring the same mass appeal as the first then we may see one of our PS3's most beloved titles begin to tank. IMO this is not good news, but if the sources are correct at least the co-op missions are seperate from the sp campaign.

  • dynomitemasta

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 5:56 am GMT

Great! Did they say, "How can we ruin the sequel of one of the best games this gen?".... cause that's what this kind of garbage does. Isn't it bad enough that they took away our beloved RE of old and gave him a dopey sidekick just for the sake of co-op? Now they are going to hurt this game by making it more action and shooting with multiplayer? This is just a real shame.... this new buddy trend is horrible.....POP, RE, and now... Uncharted.

Games should put out a separate game like MGS4 did with MGO.

    @REA24409

I think that you have interpreted me wrong. I don't really care about multiplayer (although COD4 is beyond good) in games. Single player is where it is at. When you create mutliplayer all that you do is take away resources from single player...Even if you have a different team in charge of it you could have used them to make the single player more....down to Uncharted Multiplayer....down to Bioshock multiplayer...down to MGS multiplayer.

Co-op that requires two players to solve puzzles and get from platform to platform would have been good.

    Multiplayer, not so much.
