Sacred 2 on 360, PS3 set for May 12

Adaptation of Ascaron action role-playing game goes gold on Microsoft's console, PS3 version not far behind.

After a lengthy delay, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is finally ready to fly on consoles. Once slated for release in February, the Xbox 360 edition of the PC action role-playing game has gone gold and is ready for a May 12 debut, publisher cdv Software Entertainment announced today. A representative with the publisher told GameSpot that the PlayStation 3 edition of the game is not yet finished but remains on target for a simultaneous launch with its 360 counterpart.

Developed by Ascaron Entertainment, Sacred 2 is an epic-scale fantasy role-playing game in which players undertake the path of a soldier of light or dark, exploring the lands of Ancaria 2,000 years before the events of the 2004 original. The German developer promises more than 22 square miles of in-game terrain that can be explored, as well as more than 200 dungeons and 650 quests. The game also features local split-screen and online cooperative play

Earlier this month, the game's European distributor, Deep Silver, previously declared both the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game as having gone gold and dated both versions for a June 5 launch.

To reply to nexg3n360... Ascaron was supposed to develop a drop in/out feature that could let you play offline with your character with one friend in co-op mode (a drop-in player). AND let you drop-in or join an online game with other players with your very same character!

    http://www.sacred2.com/en/news/news/detail/
    Sacred_2_in_development_for_PS3.html

The PLAYSTATION3 version supports drop in-drop out as well as other multiplayer gaming modes for up to four players via internet, and two player full-screen gaming on one console, simply pick up a controller, press start and join your friends. Players can save their characters and use them in all game modes, allowing the same character to be used both online and offline.

By the way, here's a list of co-op games with the screen mode (full or split)

    take care to all

You can use any of your own characters when you play online with others. This is not like Fable 2.

I normally don't get too excited over action-RPGs but I'm really pumped about this. Last game I played like this was Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on Xbox. I hope it's good!

Hi all, in the above article, we have a mention that the game will "also features local split-screen and online cooperative play". This is the worst news I've had concerning Sacred 2 and I hope there's a little mistake there.
The game is suppose to support "two player full-screen gaming".
    Please check: http://www.sacred2.com/en/news/news/detail/
    Sacred_2_in_development_for_PS3.html

In fact, we can read "The PLAYSTATION®3 version supports drop in/drop out as well as other multiplayer gaming modes for up to four players via internet, and two player full-screen gaming".

What is the truth here ?

Please someone make my day and answer this question.

When you play co op online will players be using their character or will it be like fable 2 where the host uses their character and anyone that joins uses a preset character model? I really hope when i'm playing with my friends online they get to use their character and all their stats and gear. Both Two Worlds and Fable 2 have disapointed me with their lackluster co op online and i hope this game can make up for it.

I'm not really a fan of pure dungeon-crawlers, but more RPGs on the market is a good thing. Especially if it is a quality game.

Oh, and just to clarify; it's the speed it runs with the animation, not the animation itself. That is fine, it's just you run amazingly slow for what your guy is doing.

  • Adziboy

    Posted Apr 20, 2009 12:06 am GMT

Why does no RPG/MMORPG or whatever, always always, have rubbish running? It always looks like they're sprinting in animation, but in reality they are going extremely slow.

I picked up the original Sacred on a whim and loved it. I haven't had a chance to play the second yet. I'm intrigued as to how it will turn out on the PC. Loved the music in the trailer too btw. If only the whole soundtrack were like that. Didn't Blind Guardian provide music for the game?

ive already got the pc collectors edition but im going to get at least one of the console versions aswell. if only to support ascaron/gmbh who are in financial difficulties right now.

i certainly dont think they should end up like flagship studios.

    who cares about this game?
and theres a chance we could get a better vershion, look at Red Alert 3 on ps3, it looks better then the 360 vershion and has more content, also GS gave it 5 more points then the 360 vershion

  • Risingson

    Posted Apr 18, 2009 5:00 pm GMT

I believe the PS3 version is more than just a PC/360 port. I actually expect the PS3 version to run a little more smoothly than the 360 version because of the HDD space. From what i understand the PS3 version is indeed finished. The certification with Sony is just taking a little longer. Expect a Gold announcement next week. As for the running animations, they look fine. All of you are just spoiled with what you see in other games. For a hack and slash rpg the animations look more than ok. Again, this game does NOT have split screen gameplay. Read a little down the page before you whine and spread false information.

parhar67 -- thats because the devs were lazy. These games you mention were made on the 360 first, and "PORTED" to the ps3. If a game is made on PS3 and ported to the 360 it works better and many devs are now doing this. But if a game is made exclusivley for the ps3 like MGS4, Killzone2, resistance2, ratchet and clank, god of war 3, warhawk, uncharted, heavenly sword, etc.... than they shine and look better than any other console games. And about fallout, M$ had a deal with them...they were the lead act at micorsoft e3, a multiplat because ms realized they can't make good games by themselves(proof: they killed off all 1st party except 2 devs, Sony has 20+ 1st/2nd part devs).... Bethesda could of made Fallout 3 look better on the ps3, just like Obilvion looked and played better on ps3 than 360 (same engine) but they rushed the ps3 version, didn't even put trophies in til after and no dlc as per the load of cash given by the ms bribe. Devs can make good ps3 games, when they make it for the ps3 , or they take the time to improove the port. Don't believe me? look at eternal sonata , oblivion, Dead space, and burnout paradise for some games that are better looking multiplatform games on the ps3.

I wasn't even going to bring up console crap, but I can't let people spreading false info on the ps3. It's all up to the devs on how the ported versions look...and it's been this way forever with ported games. Just look at last gen with 3 different consoles getting ports...usually the system the game is made on to begin with is the best looking version...unless the devs take a little time with it. Then there are exclusives which I won't get into as everyone should know they look the best! ...oh and the ps3 does have easy tools now..Sony spent money last year to make api's and engines for anyone to use on development.

lol thats the problem with the ps3 they dont have easy to use DEV kits to develop anything!! thats why GTA 4 was delayed need for speed undercover is inferrior to the 360 version and fall out 3 is inferior to the 360 version and there is no built in upscaler for the ps3 the developers have to make the game....then upscale it all on their own while the 360 has and upscaler built in.....if you dont belive me about fallout 3 and need for speed look at the reviews on this site...lower scores for the ps3

Doolz2024 - they have 2 teams working on this game for each console. The ps3 has a custom engine built for it to take advantage of the architecture and has the mega textures because of the blue-ray disc storage. This game was 22gb on the pc version.. They are probably finishing up squashing some buts. It better not be delayed though! PS3 needs a game like this!

PS3 version not yet finished? I have a feeling we'll just be getting an inferior version now.

    Posted Apr 18, 2009 12:55 pm GMT

I can't wait for this!!! I have had it pre-ordered since January! This up here is the superior ps3, version which because of the custom engine and blue-ray is having the utlra-texture pak. The video shows the ps3 version, you can see it on the buttons button right, triangle, square, x, and o. Fianlly a Daiblo , Champions of Norrath, Dark Alliance game for this gen...and a free roaming full world!!! I can't wait for this game. I was so upset when this got delayed last month. It better not be pushed back for the ps3 version. I need this game!!!!

This game had a lot added to it since the pc release last year. There were no character customizations, and it looks like the tweaked the character screens, controls and the hot key buttons. I couldn't get into the pc version as much as I am a web developer, who works 10-12 hrs a day, playing on pc after that doesn't cut it anymore. Thats why I am so thankful this ps3 version is coming out, because the game is great, and freakn huge!

Anyone who isn't sure about this game should check out the PC demo, the only thing I didn't like (same goes for the first one) is the controls with the mouse. That won't be the case for 360 so I'm definatly picking it up.

For those worried about this game being split screen, stop. When playing local co-op the screen is situated high above. Both players can them roam within the screen just like Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath, or X-Men Legends,or Justice League Heroes, etc, etc, etc. I recommend you guys to go watch the walkthroughs at Gametrailers.com. The video on co-op will prove my statement. Happy gaming!
