Last week, Guerrilla Games spoke out for the first time about Killzone 2's upcoming downloadable map pack, Steel and Titanium. Today, Sony nailed down a date for the add-on, saying it would arrive on the PlayStation Network April 30. Unfortunately, pricing for the map pack has not yet been announced.

The first map is set aboard the ISA tech cruiser New Sun, with gameplay focusing on vertically oriented firefights between multiple decks and walkways. The second map takes place aboard two high-speed Helghast freight trains, with gamers needing to navigate the precarious routes between the two speeding locomotives.

This is by no means the only downloadable content Sony has planned for its PS3-exclusive shooter. Guerrilla has teased that the next DLC pack will revive a number of maps from the original Killzone, released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004 to middling reviews .

Sounds cool and I just noticed new trophies which brought my Killzone 2 100% trophy completion to 87% just days after I finally got it.

I hope they bring terminal back, the best level in Killzone. This is pretty great news, I haven't actually even gotten familiar with the current available maps. It'll keep things fresh.

I agree. I don't have the game myself, but speaking from an economic, and a customer appreciation standpoint for marketing, they should expand the game play experience for people with a small DLC of this sort for free, simply because the pack isn't adding anything uber hefty to the individual experience, just the group experience. 2 maps isn't anything, really. If you compare that to LatD for GTAIV, for $10, you got a whole new gaming experience, that in it's own right was a whole new game, for 20% the cost of the parent game as a DLC. So GG needs to consider that, when they finally decide on what to charge. In my opinion, two maps, that they were likely just polishing up and couldn't get on the disc on time for launch, should be a bonus, or at the minimum, be given at a serious undercut "addition" price, like $1 a map in the pack. The point is, to give people more value. Game companies, and Sony and MS tend to forget that it's about what you do for your customer, not what your customer can do for you. Only when doing for your customer do you become successful in the first place. They shouldn't forget their roots. I'm not saying give them the store, but I am saying make sure that you provide a higher play value than the customer is paying for. Something that so far, Killzone seems to have done, but that GG can totally jack-up with their DLC strategy if they're not careful.

they should be free....i know for a fact i won't buy them because i can't use my parents credit card after i "accidently" bought burnout paradise off psn and 3 rock band songs so i think way more people would like killzone if they were free

Sony invests money in first party games, microsoft invests in 3rd party. Sony has more studios than microsoft and wii combined.

Great stuff, though, I kinda think it's still a little early to release maps for purchase when the game came out under 2 months ago. I suppose it's better to reduce the wait rather than have'm sit around for a few months if the maps are ready. cool stuff =]

  • crunchb3rry

    Posted Apr 15, 2009 1:00 am GMT

Don't know if I'm prepared to spend more than $5 for two maps. There's so much content to download for so many games that publishers forget gamers are not all made of money. The idea is to charge less than the norm, especially when it comes to such a fickle consumer group. $10 for any kind of DLC that isn't Shivering Isles or The Lost is starting to become a real problem. Everything costs $10 now. At least with Warhawk you got a radical change to the experience, not just a fresh map to run around on.

X madsin it's pretty tough to say what to choose b/w on SF4 and KZ2, both are great games, really a matter of preference of fighting games or fps.

Likes the video. I like that they take the time to actually play their own game and get feedback. They know what they want in the game. A lot more developers need to have a Friday Frag-Fest

Games like this, would be awesome on PC
Mouse + Keyboard = Even better FPS than on any other console..
and yes I know you can probably get a mouse and keyboard for PS3, but it still isnt the same

Was the setting of the first Killzone based on an Earth type map? If it was it's going to be a nice change in setting for the next DLC.

First off when is DLC ever free? It might be free for some other crappy games, but usually with good games they make the first pack of DLC a certain price. I can't wait to get the DLC I love Killzone2 and some new maps would be nice

  • kkevguy47k

    Posted Apr 14, 2009 5:30 pm GMT

if they call it DLC it will probably be priced (which they are).
if it was free i think they would say that their 'adding'' maybe, but thats just what i see it as. not the devs, so it could be either.

  • T-Machine99

    Posted Apr 14, 2009 5:21 pm GMT
