Assassin's Creed 2 teaser site launches

For whatever reason, game publishers maintain the illusion that if a game isn't announced via press release, it doesn't officially exist. Case in point: Ubisoft is still pretending that nobody knows about Assassin's Creed 2, despite the title being name-checked by CEO Yves Guillemot on two separate occasions.

However, the time is nearly nigh for Ubisoft to make Assassin's Creed 2's existence officially official, given that the publisher launched a new teaser site for the game today. The site depicts a brief Flash movie that displays the scrawling of famed Italian inventor Leonardo da Vinci. However, Ubisoft has taken some liberties with da Vinci's venerable drawings, adding a retractable blade to the Vitruvian Man's wrist, among other tweaks. The Flash video ends with the words "Game Informer 04.16.09," written in reverse, apparently teasing a reveal in the GameStop-owned print magazine.

Though initial rumor-mongering appeared to indicate that Assassin's Creed 2 would fast-forward the series from its 12th century Holy Land roots to 18th century France, the teaser site appears to confirm a second rumor, pegging the setting as 15th/16th century Venice, Italy. According to this second online report, Assassin's Creed 2 will introduce a bolt pistol, and disguises such as masks will play a prominent role in the game's stealth mechanics.

According to Guillemot, Assassin's Creed 2 is expected to ship sometime before March 31, 2010.

    I THINK THIS GAME CAN BE ONE OF THE BEST THIS YEAR .THEY DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING JUST HAVE 2 ADD SOME STUFF AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THINGS THERE ON THE RIGHT TRACK . I HAVE ALREADY PRE ORDER THE GAME CAUSE THE FIRST ONE WAS SO COOL A LITTLE SHORT BUT COOL.I JUST DON'T WANT TO PAY BIG BUCKS FOR A FEW LEVELS . OH THE 2 HIDDEN BLADE THING IS F ING COOL

    I thought the flash webcam thing they set up on that site was rather clever. It's the first time I've ever seen anyone do something like that. I wonder if we will get to see the other weapons that they intend to use, at a later date. Well, no matter what, I'm looking forward to the new title. I loved the first game, and can't wait for the next installment to come out.

    Just to say Altair513 is a complete LAD. And will is probably masturbating over the new trailer right now.

    The first one was really boring... i hope they improve it... (graphics were awesome though)

    The story is stupid and why did they have to bring in the modern sort of messed up idea of the animus... i mean come on, seriously what the hell is that?!

    Is it really the effing hard to make Assassins Creed a bit more fun... i mean i LOVED climbing those towers over and over and looking for flags (Altair513 OMFG Flags! Original right!) and then listening to bunch of jews but i wanted a bit more.... variety.

    Um... So I take it we won't be playing as Altair. So long as we can still free run and throw beggars around I don't care. I see the actual Assassin Faction is still around.

    there are no guns. there's a hammer sword to small blades and a few other weapons if you go to Hard News 04/09/09 some people their hands on the new game informer and they released some stuff in it like killing enimies and USING there weapons!

    also, whos to say it wont be in france and venice, granted those long horse rides when u first need to get to a city may be super long then, but hey im sure they can work around that somehow.

    SO here's what i heard! At the end of the trailer it says GAME INFORMER 4 16 09 in mirror writing. THEN! I got to thinking! Maybe this is another generation of desmonds ancestors! And if anybody actually waited through the credits of the first one which are rediculously long you walk around as you please in the lab with eagle vision. I read the stuff and connected the dots. The creepy scienctist people wanted the other pieces of the treasure Al Mulam used. So that's why used desmond. Then on the globe at the end of tha Altair part of the game the treausre shows a dot in FRANCE! The new spot in next game. Now the scientist wanted a NEW world! And in the writing on the wall above Desomds bed it says " They wanted to send it into the sky" and a bunch of jiberish like that and something about a sattilite. The wrinting was from another test subject they used and in Lucy's computer it said that all the other ones died or went crazy insane. So they want all the pieces to recreate the treasure and send it on a sattilite into the sky and hypnitize all the people and become the rulers of the world. Just like Al Mulam wanted to do. The scientist are present day TEMPLARS! So i'm guessing that the next game is in france becuse of the globe and maybe this new character named "ezio" i heard somewhere. Is part of a ancestory of assassins and they are trying to stop somebody or something. And nobody knows what the h*** happened to Altair! Hopefully they explain it in the next game what happened to him after that. and the whole webcam thing on the ANIMUS website it shows a 3d version of altairs arm and a hidden blade but he has all 5 fingers! He never had five fingers as long as he had the hidden blaed. Or called the killer finger! And the old dude in the video has all five fingers. Also the Virtuivis Man has a hidden blade! Maybe Ubisoft will twist Leonardo Da Vinci in the assassin clan. Also on twitter Ubisoft has said that all people who registered on the ANIMUS WEBSITE will get an exclusive on AC2. I CAN'T WAIT! Now if anyone got confused please turn off your computer get a class of water and go to bed. AC2 is coming and we must be ready!

    OKAY EVERYBODY CALM DOWN! I am just as excited as everyone here i've beaten Assassins creed 1 three times currently working oon the foruth time around. Now when i heaard about the trailer for AC2 i was in shock litteritly. So i watched it 5 times. Then told my friends. Then watched it about 20 more time. It's true. I'm obbsesed with game.OBBSESED!

    ok peeps
    so here goes my ideas on this whole gun thing, its a one shot wonder, its a bolt pistol peeps remember, much to hard to reload in the heat of battle, ud be able to get off one good shot and that was about it.
    theres a long history of soldiers who have there swords and daggers but also small arms like a pistol, back in the day these pistols wherent used to win a battle, but where used to take someone down who really really needed to be takeing down, then more then likely they would be thrown away cause it would take to much time to reload.

    also, been thinking about the whole venice and the 15th 16th centry thing, i very much say its going to take place around 1500 to 1512.
    this was a major ass kicking time in venice history, we have the turks, the pope, french kings, spainish kings so on and so on

    of course as i said in a earlier post, with the whole animus concept whos to say that it wont take place in two diffrent time lines.
    also whos to say its going to be desmonds memorys.

    **spoiler** anyone else think that the last real mission u go on, u know to the funeral, and remember the "surprize" when u find out it wasnt the dude u where looking for but some chick, anyone else think that ubisoft are going to pull a really dumb move and make ur one who u let live into the ancestor of lucy? erm i think her name was lucy, anyway u know what im on about

    surely they cant have guns if its 15th/16th - they would be stupidly loud, not so great for a stealthy assassin

    Since apparently not too many people here have heard of augmented reality, I'll give a little lesson, after the teaser vid click on the icon in the middle( under "Game Informer 04.16.09,") and print the pdf that comes up (or trace the symbol and fill it in). Now click on the animus symbol on the left and it should ask about a webcam, allow it or whatever else you may need to do in order to see the webcam feed on the website. Now that you are all set up take the printout or tracing of the symbol and put it in front of the camera, a verifying message should pop up and well i wont spoil it for you.

    p.s. make sure to google "augmented reality" for more of these.

    hold on was i the only 1 who noticed wings on di vinchi's drawing. i'm pretty sure you couldn't fly in assassins creed 1. maybe a new game play option

    Should be good. Hopefully it won't be as repetitive as the first game. The graphics were still awesome if the first game, so I expect this game will look even better.

    I'm a bit worried that this game is gonna turn into a Hitman clone, the whole disguises thing and all that... I'm still looking forward to the game though.

    SEPEWORTH .. emm the trailer clearly shows that the game is set in the da vinici period so there wont be a lot of guns around although at the time they existed some kind of guns

    No doubt... I'm excited!

    The first game was a bit redundant in some areas, but the overall appeal was spot on, and I really hope they bring that to the sequel without too many hiccups. Throwing blades still out ranked bolt pistol in my book, much more stealthy don't you think

    Meh. I'll get it anyway. Does this mean the next Splinter Cell will be ready around the same time? The original Conviction trailer looked as if it had similar "crowd" engine as AC.

    ubi make some quality games. Finally they are also taking wii seriously, b/c shaun white road trip was excellent.

    Though the first game got tiresome after awhile, it was still groundbreaking with the sandbox freerunning mechanics. Hopefully they can use that as a springboard to make a great game with a solid foundation (I'm thinking GTA III >> Vice City)

    Venice in the Renaiassance sounds ripe for some good sword play which I thought was the best thing about AC1. Frankly I don't mind repetitive to a degree but I did mind that they didn't seem to think through the stealth aspects. That hits played out the same way didn't bother me so much as never getting a break from the beggars and insane folks.

    why would you go back to the past at all if you haven't fleshed out what is going on with Desmond? It makes no sense to me when you could have Desmond be the protagonist and have the game setting in his time period. He also has no skills except the Assassin Vision which would make it easy to build on some skills to make him the Assassin. Fun game, but the ending was weak as was the repetitive nature of the quests in the cities. I am all for atmosphere and setting, but it seems they skimpend on the game play content when they were puttling all of their efforts into what the city looked like. What a city i was though.

    The last game was epic. IT was repetitive, but the way the game looked and felt was enough for me, as well as some very strong game mechanics and brilliant story.

    One good thing about this sequel is it will play total different to AC1 because it is set in a different time period. They wont be totally recycling things from the last game.

    assassins creed was a good game....for the first 4 or 5 days. to repetitive. it did quite well in using stealth but mgs4 is still the king of that for me. and all the missions were more or less the same thing go to a man to find where target is
    kill target
    run away and hide in a haystack
    to repetitive and too easy...it was a shame because i was really looking forward to it but then i was really let down didnt think much of assassins creed 1 and wont be picking up assassins creed 2

    I loved the first one despite the flag collecting and somewhat repetitious action. Great setting, atmosphere, and characters, and I can't wait to play the second game.
