Konami prepping Silent Hill remake for Wii?

What we heard: By and large, most people can easily distinguish fact from fiction in an everyday setting. That ability, of course, is turned on its ear when April Fools' Day rolls around and gaming headlines are dominated by a host of semi-plausible happenings, such as Capcom "going totally 8-bit" with Dark Void, as well as ridiculous events such as Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man for Xbox Live turning out to be absolutely true.

So it is with no uncertain amount of trepidation that one approaches an article posted on Go Nintendo yesterday. According to the gaming blog, Nintendo Power's upcoming cover story has the first details on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii, and it is apparently "not a joke!"

The title will reportedly be "a reimagining of the first Silent Hill," Go Nintendo said, citing producer Tomm Hulett. "It's not a remake or a port," the Konami developer reportedly continued, and it will apparently feature a surprising intelligent artificial intelligence, if Go Nintendo is to be believed.

"One of Shattered Memories' most significant and intriguing additions--your answers actually affect how the game unfolds," Hulett reportedly told Nintendo Power. "And it doesn't end there. The game 'watches' you constantly, and your behavior throughout can determine when you'll meet certain characters, which scenes you'll witness, and a variety of other factors."

While the game details sounded a bit far-fetched, Go Nintendo did back up its report with a number of purported screenshot scans from the magazine.

The official story: "We will be making an official announcement on Monday for Silent Hill," a Konami representative told GameSpot.

Bogus or not bogus?: [UPDATE] Konami has now confirmed that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is indeed coming to the Wii, as well as the PlayStation 2 and PSP, this fall.

    Combat in Silent Hill is more like an existential crisis, so if they do away with combat that wouldn't be such a major change. However, although they don't need combat per se, they do need challenge. It's completely up in the air whether such a non-combat title will prevent the appropriate challenge...

    No kiddin zombey, I've looked up the info myself and they're calling it a loose remake or " reimagining " by it's development staff.
    Also saying they've ditched combat completely for the evasion of enemies rather than fighting or shooting them, with an over emphasis on puzzle solving.

    If this is the way the game is going to be treated for a remake, I'll just stop at SH: Homecoming.

    Well that, of course, is simply an absurdity as every console is made for everybody, hence games rated E being on every system and games rated M being on every system.

    well I simply stated that the wii is mainly directed towards children, and that Silent Hill, being a horror game shouldnt be made available for a child based console.

    You didn't say they should make it for all systems, in fact you implied it shouldn't be released on the Wii at all.

    How is the Wii not for mature adults, and how are the 360 and PS3 the opposite, exactly?As far as i know people of every age play all three, and if you think a console is more mature because it has a buncha shooters on it, you have problems.Oh and for the record PJ, Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 were easily the best looking console games of last generation buddy.

    the forum modirators love deleting or hiding that of which is the truth, second rate consoles are for children, games like silent hill are better off on consoles for mature adults, this isnt for the fans of the original, its just a profit maker for Konami and its corporate affiliates, screw wii. and if this post is hidden from the public eye, then you are all droids following the flock.

    Creo que es un movimiento muy asertado! ya que SILENT HILL!! a perdido terreno en los juegos de horror survival! por que su modo de juego ya no evoluciono!! espereo que el HOME COMMING sea la excepcion. Ahora incursiona en la consola mas vendida que es el wii que es falto de juegos de terror! entonses se les habre las posibilidades de un mercado que quiza no los conosca! a estos GAMERS que tienen wii y exijen juegos serios o de contenido para mayores!!

    Is horror survival game still a hit today? Only hardcore gamer will play them, and not all of the HC gamers will (including me) ...

    The sales of this Wii version of Silent Hill will show how many Hardcore Gamers are there that bought Wii ... If it hit 1 million, it means Wii is indeed a hardcore gamer console ...

    Why for Wii? I got one but I so would have wanted to see this on PS3 or X360. If they are going to re imagine it on Wii then remake the Original for the other consoles.

    I doubt this game will be good overall, but it may perfect some things that the previous Silent Hill games failed to do.

    So, I've been doing some poking-around.

    A few reports (most from the original article on Go Nintendo) purport that the Wii SH "Re-imagining" will be doing away with any concept of combat, and instead focusing on atmosphere, characterization and a more "creative" way of dealing with foes (finding ways around them instead of trying to bash your way through them, or luring a boss into a dangerous area to be smashed to bits). I personally welcome this move, as combat has been by far the weakest area of the SH series from minute one, and after SH4 and SH:H, I'd be all about refocusing the series on atmosphere and plot again.

    I've also read that the team reported to be working on this is the same team that worked on SH: Origins, which distresses me a bit... I'm hoping they can pull it together enough to hold true on the promises they've made.

    Actually graphics dont make a good game,strong controlls immersive gameplay and great story telling makes a good game.I love the original SH now im not saying that this silent hill remake or whatever it is,is good idea but to say it wont look better then the ps1 version or even be better is prime example of how stupid people really are getting in this world.the game will definatly have the same graphics as silent hill the room and will probly have controlls like re4 for the wii so dont cast the first stone until it comes out and for god sakes dont play this game until you play the original silent hill wich is still hands down THE SCARIEST GAME EVER MADE AND IM SURE EVERYONE WILL AGREE WITH ME THERE!!

    I honestly have never played any of the Silent Hill games. I own all of them except Homecoming & Origins. But i just never got around 2 playin the original Silent Hill (prolly cuz im a huge Resident Evil fan). So i know imma get the thumbs down on this 1 & maybe deservingly so. But i'll get this game just cuz its Silent Hill & i promise 2 all u ppl who read this & r like wtf u've never played Silent Hill, that I'll play Silent Hill b4 this game comes out.

    Thanks for clearing up those terms for me. All these remakes and reimaginings in films and videogames these past few years have gotten a little rediculous. not to mention the countless sequels and prequels being released. I just hope that videogames and films can ascend this point, and really start getting creative again.

    I loved the original game, but what will it be like remade? What can be brought to it besides better graphics. The remake of Resident Evil on the game cube added some new elements and better graphics. I am a champion of remakes so here is to hoping it comes through.

    LOL I love this. You can't even compare it with the original Xbox... a console that came out EIGHT YEARS ago. Why is that even in question? Furthermore, the original xbox does in fact have better graphics than the Wii, and is actually capable of high definition output (and no, 480p doesn't count, buddy.).

    I'm all for pushing the Wii's limits but if this and Dead Space are let downs, I'm totally giving up on the Wii's ability to remake successful titles. And from then on it will always be known to me as the shiney new Gamecube with coo controls.

    I hope this is for real. I'm getting really sick of the XBOX and Playstation fanboys saying a good horror-themed game can't be made on the Wii. We get it; it has weaker capabilities. We are all aware of this. Hence why the system costs less than $200 out the gate. But Twilight Princess has some absolutely beautiful graphics and gameplay; who is to say a horror-genre game of this caliber can't work?

    Firsty, your question is not serious since you can't compare PS1 with Wii. Hell you can't even compare Xbox (original) with it. Secondly, who cares? 9and don't say "adults" or "hardcore" gamers cause I am gonna lol!)

    Also, for all of those saying they've never played Silent Hill, for god's sake PLEASE don't let a Wii Silent Hill be the first one you play. It's just not fair to the series. Judge the series on part 1 for the PS1 and parts 2, 3, and 4 for the PS2. Even part five, though it was a let down, I'd recommend over a Wii title.

    I'm getting tired of seeing great games (like Dead Space and Dead Rising) being ported and/or "remade" for the Wii. I am not a "wii-hater" but games like this are not meant for it. Silent Hill being ported to the Wii is laughable. Quick, sling your remote control at that dog before it eats your face! (hope that's censored considering the target market of the Wii)

    Let's not KID (cough cough) ourselves Wii fans... how much better would it look than the ps1 version?

    There are more titles than you think like RE4 re, the upcoming REs, HOTD, chrnonicles,upcoming Fatal frame,Alone in dark(bad but there it is) etc,etc, But thats not the point at all.You just said that adults cant enjoy ANY game under pg18?thats ridiculous.Loads of the very best games are pg13 or even PG. Im an adult and i have fun with a game and i dont care what does the PG thing says.I would be retarded to say Oh this game is not pg18 i cant buy it, it IS for kids,it has to be!.If you exclude shooters from other consoles then you will just say the same about every console then.And i just think is sad when a "hardcore" gamers collection is about 10 shooters and 1 racing game.Thats not mature.Thats simple minded.On topic, SH Hc was awful.So im worried about this.

    Ohhhh mamma, if they redid the first Silent Hill, still my favorite one in the series, and added some interesting new play mechanics to it, that would be an instant joygasm.Oh yeah, and the Wii bashers REALLY need to grow up.Either that or get a brain.

    I must admit, I think Nintendo might have something here. I can only imagine the kind of gameplay to be had with "Silent Hill: Shattered Memories." With the Wii-mote, I can imagine having to navigate the spooky American mid-west with the left joy stick peripheral, and actually pointing the in-game flashlight with the other. Oh the possibilities! I do hope that this is something Nintendo will include in their take of this psychologically frightening franchise.
