Fallout 3: The Pitt pulled off XBL, retrenched

[UPDATE] After posting corrupted 360 edition of second RPG add-on, Bethesda Softworks successfully uploads fully functional version.

Even though the 2009 Game Developers Conference was hogging headlines all day, many Fallout 3 fans were distracted by something else. Following the release of The Pitt, the second expansion to the award-winning postapocalyptic role-playing game, reports began to spread of problems with the English-language Xbox 360 version of the add-on. The PC edition appears to be unaffected.

Specifically, graphical glitches were present, with reports of large exclamation signs on red diamonds appearing suspended in midair. Shortly thereafter, a staffer on developer-publisher Bethesda Softworks' blog confirmed that the English-language 360 version of the update had been withdrawn.

"We are continuing to look into the issues people are experiencing with The Pitt for Xbox 360," said the unnamed staffer. "As of now, it looks like the file for the English version on Xbox Live was somehow corrupted. We are currently working with Microsoft to remove the existing file off of Live to prevent any further downloads."

[UPDATE] In a blog post this morning, Bethesda Softworks announced that it has re-released an uncorrupted version of the Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3: The Pitt. As reported yesterday, a corrupted version of the game was initially released yesterday on Xbox Live, but was promptly pulled after widespread complaints.

Unfortunately, to successfully redownload the game, players must first delete the corrupted version of The Pitt from their hard drives. To do so, they must:

1) Sign in to Xbox LIVE then press the guide button
2) Go to Settings->System Settings->Memory.
3) From here, scroll down to Fallout 3 and press A.
4) Select Fallout 3: The Pitt (Marketplace Content) press A then choose Delete, then Yes to Delete.
5) NOTE: When deleting DO NOT delete game saves.

Like its predecessor, the Pitt add-on will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PC and will cost $9.99, or 800 Microsoft points in the 360's demi-currency. Featuring new achievements, the expansion is set in the raider city that has sprung up from the ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Players will be forced to side with one of two factions--the slaves or the raiders--in a growing conflict plaguing the town, which stages regular gladiatorial events players can join. GameSpot's hands-on preview has more details.

    at least bethesda fixed the problem. cant really say the same for some other developers. really, all developers should be on the ball about this sort of thing.

    I hate PS3 fanboys whining about not having DLC. Boo hoo! Bethesda never intended to make DLC for Fallout 3. Microsoft paid them to do it and told them they could take most of the profits if they made it Microsoft exclusive. If Sony wants DLC for Fallout 3 then they should pay them to make DLC for the PS3 Fallout 3. Maybe you should be complaining to Sony.

    @ MarcJL31, the level cap will be raised in the next DLC, Broken Steel.

    look i dont really know who all is complaining but i think that Bethesda did a very good job with solving the problem they found out it wasnt working correctly they pulled it to prevent more people from getting screwed over and got it back up asap. i downloaded it w/ in the first few min that they re posted it back online and i have had no problems with it, no glitches except when i was listening to ashurs speech, he paused so i sat and tried to talk to everyone no luck reset my save to right b4 the speech and it turned out to be just fine. anyway kudos to Bethesda for knowing what they are doing and getting on the problem asap. and if you have not downloaded it yet i think you should get the pit asap it is amazing.

    After downloading this, my game is freezing ALOT more than before. I save every few minutes to be safe and it has come in handy more than once. And what ever happened to raising the level cap to 30?

    I see multiple comments and questions regarding DLC for the PS3. IMO, there is nothing wrong with MS buying exclusive DLC. Sony made sure last gen that GTA was timed exclusive for them, and fair play to them. This is business, MS pays the developer for a product and they get it. It's called capitalism for a reason. I agree with CrimsonKnight, the DLC will probably pass the exclusive time window and be released for PS3 down the road.

    Makes me wish I had the 360 version... the Pitt looks awesome. This is probably the only thing I'm jealous of dealing with the 360 and exclusive content, but it really shows how much of a sellout Bethesda is.

    Great companies make great games... but its the best companies that back up their work.

    can't say that I care, I don't have a gaming capable pc and no 360. I play my PS3 and betheseda cares more for money than fans, otherwise they wouldn't have been payed off by microsoft for exclusive DLC.

    Better than Operation anchorage but i still like anchorage. The pitt is better but i still think people should check all of the dlc for fallout out. It changes the main experience and its different. Great new gameplay and more hours. So far im around 120 hours intotal. 80 being on one character. The pitt is great and highly recomend it.

    @AceJakk:
    Fallout got game of the year honors from numerous sites and at GDC this week, budd. Just because GS gave it to MGS4, doesn't mean everyone else did. Fallout 3 was ridiculously better than it anyways.

    @CBass217:
    The game is far from "nothing but glitches", have you even played it?

    I'm grateful Bethesda resolved the issues, but there are precautions they could have (and should have) taken to prevent them from happening in the first place. But Fallout 3 tends to be a sort of glitchy game anyway.

    Rented the game hoping it'd be as good as the past Fallouts, or that at least it would give me the same sensation Oblivion did, but no, just another grey FPS with clunky controls, you can do it better Bethesda.

    is the DLC worth is, anchorage was only cool because of the undying winter armor and gauss rifle but it wasn't worth 800, maybe 400,

    is this like an entire city or is it just around the size of somewhere like rivet city

    Two parts of it the DLC are extremely ridiculous, plot and gameplay wise.
    ie)
    1)the arena
    2)Aquiring the cure
