Mass Effect 2 confirmed for PC, Xbox 360

EA officially announces BioWare's follow-up to 2007 sci-fi action RPG for Microsoft platforms in early 2010.

That Electronic Arts and BioWare have been at work on a follow-up to 2007's Mass Effect hasn't exactly been a guarded secret. The term "Mass Effect trilogy" has been bandied about by EA brass since it acquired the studio in 2007, with CEO John Riccitiello most recently pegging the game for a multiplatform release in early 2010. Of course, that reveal was quickly followed by the game's first teaser trailer last month.

Now, a year on from when BioWare executive producer Greg Zeschuk made first reference to the game by its title, EA has officially announced Mass Effect 2. Tempering speculation that the game will see a multiplatform release on the PlayStation 3, EA confirmed it for release only on the Xbox 360 and PC in early 2010. The first installment in the franchise was published by Microsoft and debuted on the Xbox 360 in 2007 before moving to the PC last year.

BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka said that it will offer "intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration." And, as is the hallmark of games produced by EA's subsidiary, BioWare promises a cinematic storyline that will play out in a fashion similar to the first game in the series.

Unfortunately, EA remains tight-lipped on Commander Shepard's latest mission, saying only that humanity now faces a threat greater than the robotic Geth army seen in the original. Indeed, Commander Shepard may not be party to the proceedings at all, considering that last month's trailer indicated humanity's first Spectre had been killed in action.

Woohoo that's the way to do it! It's coming for PC. You don't think they'll use DX 10, do you? If they do, it will be honestly 10/10. I can't wait to see the storyline.

Can't wait! Mass Effect is my second favorite RPG, second only to Chrono Cross. ANY game with a new game + gets bonus points. And using old data makes me happy as well. What if the bad guy ends up being Shepard and your old Shepard's stats are what make him hard?

if its more of the same stuff as the first one I hope they clean up some of the problems that were in the first. Like item management, that was a complete pain in the backside. I'd like to see that cleared up and organised decently

I for one can't wait for this game. one likely use for keeping the save is because of the choice at the end involving the counsel & who's in charge of it, that would make a large difference if they want it to.
I'm expecting the protagonist in ME2 to be the child of the hero of ME1.

I would just like to make the point that Nintendo will not be price cutting at all, much less to $150. They said three weeks ago they weren't, the notion of a $150 Wii before 2011 is not even thinkable, and I absolutely loved M.E. I played it for 6 straight weeks after I got it, and it was the first game I got for my 360. I do think that the teaser trailer was being a "teaser" though. I think that Shepard is either not dead, or is only dead through part of the game. I mean, why would they say keep your saved character files if your saved character (Shepard) was going to be K.I.A.? I think they kind of gave themselves away there.

Sorry, you can continue on with your internet argument that will turn into (as it already has) a mindless argument full of CAPS and curses only because the each of you won't ever see each other, so you can say what you want without consequence. I just thought I'd actually comment on what this page is actually about instead of having a fanboy argument. How silly of me.

@buffdaddy69 i was just saying that it is pointless to pay $100 for a wireless adapter to play online where you can use your pc ethernet cable to play online which is alot cheaper to get.

everyone talks about how M$ milking the consumers but they forgot about how sony is doing the same thing especially with the HD cables and the dual shock 3 controllers

Even if the PS3 did not come with a controller or even movie playback capability, or weighed 60 lbs it still has nothing to do with a usb wi fi adapter costing $90. I already have a router, it is what broadcasts the signal the adapter would connect to. Router does not equal usb wi fi adapter.

    To answer you:
The HD cables that come with the 360 were useless to me since I needed a VGA adapter for my TV. Nonetheless, the console that does boast BluRay capabilities should have the necessary cables, however, after much thought..
it still has nothing to do with the exuberant price for the network adapter which is the only possibility, where I live, to have wi fi on my console.

Man, the paint for Ferraris is really expensive. I mean, tomatoes are real common in other parts of the world, why not here? It's the fish I tell you, I can't get rid of the smell.

Apples does not equal 4:00 PM."

Also, i hope you do reliase that i am talking about the wireless router that plugs into the back of the 360.

Actually, My argument makes perfect sense. I said which is more Logical. Paying 100 Bucks for a wireless router because you're too much of a lazy prick to run a wire into a router

Or buy 80 bucks for HD cables that usually come with Cable Boxes, Game Systems and Computers for free?

You didnt tell me what was more logical, Instead you choose to talk about Apples not equalling 4:00 PM, proving to me that you're just a dee de dee with no common grasp on common sense.

    @buffdaddy:
what do apples have to do with the time of day? so what if the xbox comes with an ethernet cable... that still doesnt excuse $90 for a wi-fi usb key. and why oh why did you have to turn it into a ps3 vs xbox debate. spinning on a dime ftw. And yes, we all want 20m worth of cable going through the house, its very pleasing to the eye, and since almost nothing else *cough* uses cables it doesnt add to the mess.

You dont NEED an ME 1 savegame to start and ME 2 game, thats just silly... I bet anything you can start an ME 2 char from scratch. Now if you do have an ME 1 savegame they said it will be used by ME 2."

I love how you totally avoided the PS3 not coming with the HD cables so you have to buy them for 50 to 80 bucks, even though they should of came with the system question. I asked you a question. Whats more logical?

Paying 100 bucks for a wireless router so you can get a INTERNET connection.

    or

Paying 50-80 bucks for HD cables for the PS3 because Sony thought "You know, Im feeling frisky today. The Xbox 360 comes with HD Cables, So in order to one up Bill Gates, the PS3 will NOT come with the HD Cables and,you will be charged for them. *Sony Excecutive lets out a cackle while twisting his mustache*"

I feel bad for Sonys fan base, because before, Sony was once beyond consumer friendly when the PS1 and PS2 were out, But this generation, Sony isn't throwing anyone a bone. The Wii is possibly going to be gettinga price cut, So if the number one selling system is being dropped from 200 to 150 or a 100, Then people are going to think "Hmmm....Should I buy a PS3 or an Xbox 360...wait...whats this...A Nintendo Wii? 150 dollars?!" Not to mention, If Nintendo does a price drop, Then Microsoft is going to do ANOTHER price drop. Sony though. Meh. You get no B.C, You don't get the HD cables, You get free Internet, but ****** servers unless if its a over hyped game.

I may have thrown some fuel into the fire, But you were the one ******** about paying 100 bucks for a router so you could get internet connection, you're ******** because you're too lazy to do proper wiring work and just running a 20 foot cable, that can easily be hidden along the bottom coners of you're floor into you're modem.

If you ain't gonna pay a hundred bucks for a router, or if you ain't gonna take 10 minutes and run a wire into you're modem and make it look not messy, then shut the **** up.

Thats why the 360 COMES with a Ethernet Cable. Unlike the PS3 where it doesn't even come with the HD Cables and you end up getting charged 80 bucks for HD cables that should of came with the system. Whats more logic? This is a true sequel, not just another game with the same name and setting. You need to have played the first to understand and be interested in the story and the universe behind it. Microsoft still published the 2009 release of Mass Effect 1 so they hold atleast some controle over the first. If EA ever manages to get Mass Effect 1 on the PS3 then you can expect ME2 to come along aswell. I wouldnt mind it if it happend but I hope M$ can hold on to ME1 for a little longer so a PS3 version wouldnt hurt the 360 version.

    Damn...no PS3, ?

Oh well, that's ok hopefully by 2010 I can get myself a new PC (that's build for gaming) so I can play first and second one (or at least pray for change of mind by EA/BioWare--whichever comes first, lol). I'm definitely still keeping a look out for this one in the coming months no matter the platform.

Oh thank god, they're not porting it to PS3. Games that are hugely Multiplatform, i.e. more than 2 platforms, tend to suffer in quality due to the time spent MAKING it multiplatform being taken out of perfecting the game as it stands. The PS3 has such a tiny userbase compared to 360 and PC anyway, that it wouldn't be worth that time. PS3 owners tend to be more interested in JRPG games anyway.

    @VenomRitual

my router is on the third floor and my 360 is on the second floor and i just use a 20m ethernet cable which is more than enough because with a 20m cable it can go down three floors so therefore no wireless adapter is required.

Buying a wireless connection is pointless. its better to get the wired connection is cheaper. therefore it is still cheaper. You forgot to add dual shock3 for ps3 . for where i am from i can get 180gb xbox elite with two games (one of them is Re5) for about nz540 which is about US270.
