Nintendo has announced that two games will be added to its online Wii Shop Channel today, both of which will feature fare aimed at old-school gamers.
For Nintendo's original-game service WiiWare, Aksys Games has created Bit.Trip Beat. A rhythm game, Bit.Trip Beat has players pounding out 8-bit-era tunes set to retro-style visuals using the motion-sensing Wii Remote. The game accommodates play for up to four, and is available for 600 Wii points ($6).
Whereas Bit.Trip Beat is a throwback to days gone by, Summer Games II is actually from another gaming age. Originally released for the Commodore 64 in 1985, Summer Games II offers an 8-bit look at Olympic grandeur, offering gamers the chance to compete in eight different events: cycling, equestrian, fencing, high jump, javelin, kayaking, rowing, and triple jump. The 500 Wii point ($5) game features multiplayer action for up to eight, and players can choose from more than a dozen countries.
