By definition, the origin of something is the absolute beginning of it, with nothing coming before. Be that as it may, BioWare's upcoming console and PC role-playing game Dragon Age: Origins has received a prequel all its own.

Tor Books this week released the new trade paperback Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne, described as a prequel to BioWare's upcoming game. The novel follows the deposed prince Maric as he seeks revenge for the murder of his mother, all while his nation suffers under the rule of the invading Orlesians.

While game-to-novel adaptations are typically penned by authors unrelated to development, The Stolen Throne was handled by the lead writer on the Dragon Age game, BioWare Edmonton's David Gaider. Gaider is no stranger to game development, and his previous credits include Baldur's Gate 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Neverwinter Nights.

Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne is now available for a suggested retail price of $14.95.

I wish I wasn't such a slow reader, for some reason it takes me FOREVER to read books, but I still enjoy them so I will probably pick this one up since I am looking forward to Dragon Age Origins.

If the book is included in the CE of the game and the CE is only $10 more, then I 'll wait for the game and save $5.

When the BioWare Edition of DA:O that was listed at the EA store was originally listed, it included this novel (with contents subject to change, of course). With the DA:O delay, which leaves much more time to develop items for the different editions, they no longer have the contents listed, but it's possible it'll be available later in the collection, if anyone is interested in actually waiting to find out. Certainly, for those that love game collector editions but aren't necessarily interested in the book on its own, it might be a good way to get it. It'd have been the way I went (if the collection was available in my country, that is).

Yeah does anyone know if it's any good? I love the Mass Effect novels and if this was written by Drew I would of brought it already.

Interesting... I wish I loved Fantasy more than Sci-fi and this would be amazing news. I'm still interested in Dragon Age, the game, but the book maybe not so much... But I might try it out just to see if the type of fantasy they are going for with this game. Maybe I'll like it compared to what I normally think when I think 'fantasy'.
