Aussie game charts: February 23-March 1

Halo Wars grabs top spot despite fierce competition from Killzone 2.

Last week's sales charts were always going to be interesting, with Sony's Killzone 2 going head-to-head against Microsoft's Halo Wars. But who won? Despite receiving a tepid response from critics, Halo Wars managed to take the lead and claim the throne in the overall Australian game charts, according to GfK Australia. Meanwhile, Sony's flagship PlayStation 3 game Killzone 2 came in at number two. Sony had a specific Killzone 2/PlayStation 3 bundle available last week, but copies of games sold in bundles don't count towards the overall charts, according to GfK Australia. On the other hand, Halo Wars was given as a promotional game for people who bought a 360 at retail stores and was therefore allowed to be counted in overall sales figures.

The third place goes to Wii Fit for the week of February 23-March 1. Despite not making it to the top, PS3 fans can rejoice in the knowledge that Street Fighter IV for the PlayStation 3 continues to outsell the Xbox 360 version, taking out the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Mario Kart Wii dropped down one place from the previous week, finding itself in sixth position. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II continues to sell strong during its second week of sales, taking out the seventh place. In an impressive feat, Sega managed to clean up the remaining three spots in the charts with Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection (SMDUC) on the PS3 in eighth, House of the Dead: Overkill in ninth, and the Xbox 360 version of SMDUC in 10th place.
