Ogre Battle parties with Family & Friends on Wii Shop

Party games may be a dime a dozen on the Wii, but the latest to arrive will carry a sticker price of $10. As part of its weekly update to the Wii's online game storefronts today, Nintendo announced that Gammick Entertainment's Family & Friends Party is now available for 1,000 Wii points.

Not particularly descriptive in its description, Family & Friends Party has been billed as "an interactive board game" in which up to eight players complete in a variety of unnamed challenges. Teams take turns competing against one another in said challenges, with one or two players per side dueling it out at any given time. The downloadable game also features six different Single challenges, in which only one team competes, as well as Versus challenges that include all members of both sides.

This week's Virtual Console addition is a bit more straightforward, in that it involves a band of rebels wrecking wanton mayhem against a diabolical regime. Enix's Ogre Battle: the March of the Black Queen, which saw a limited North American release for the Super Nintendo in 1995, is now available for 800 Wii points, or $8. Built in the tradition of Japanese turn-based strategy games, Ogre Battle sees players commanding a variety of units against a host of enemies, using any number of magic items and weapons along the way.

Ogre Battle 64 and Tactics Ogre: KoL are two of my favorite strategy RPGs. (And up there in terms of favorites of all time) It's defintely worth turning on my Wii to download OB:MoBQ About time I was given a reason to do so again

Nice, Ogre Battle is one of those great games that slipped by many people. If you like tactical rpg type games, it may feel a bit dated, but its a completely refreshing and addictive take on the genre. Some games are overpriced, but $8 is completely worth it. Often wondered why they never brought back this franchise, always found these games to rival the production values of many other top tier games at the time.

Never really played MotBQ much, but I do own PoLC, and it's an awesome game, and from what I've seen of MotBQ, it's definitely worth a purchase.

Orge Battle eh? Another win for the VC for sure.

These days it seems a slew of terrible games make their way onto the Wii with a few gems slipping in now and then, but with the VC it seems to be getting a steady flow of great games like this.

I'm not complaining about the title of the article...thought it was clever enough lol.

I remember they made an N64 and GBA Ogre Battle, but I can't seem to recall a SNES one. Perhaps I should look into it.

What a stupid article. They mention OgreBattle in the title to draw your attention, don't bring it up until the last paragraph, and say that it's a turn-based strategy game, which it isn't - it's RTS. Anyways, I bought this game new for $20 for the SNES when an electronics store was closing down, kept it for a couple years, then sold it for $40!

Ogre Battle is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Anyone who has a Wii and a taste for strategy should definitely try it out.

Any one else notice how this article was spin-doctored. The big news in this article is clearly Ogre Battle yet they shoved it in the last paragraph and wasted two paragraghs and even the picture to this artical on another stupid party game most no one cares about.

O man! I loved Ogre Battle! I still play Ogre Battle 64 on ROM. I'm glad they're putting on the virtual console. Now if they only put up the rest of the Ogre Battle games...

Gammick Entertainment is absolutely right. You just can't have a good party unless you've got some simple math problems to solve.

Now how about releasing the SNES version of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together so we don't have to pay $80-100 for the PS1 version.

I still consider Ogre Battle on the nintendo 64 to be the best game I have every played. The story was just so far beyond what I was used too. An addition to the series would be welcomed.

Ogre Battle for $8!! Hell yeah, this is very awesome. One of the last RPG's that badly needed to resurface. Only Secret of Mana/Evermore, Earthbound and Lufia 1/2 left!

Ogre Battle was an awesome game. I am really surprised there hasn't been a recent remake of it. Given the other titles that have been given this opportunity.

Hmmm the Nintendo 64 version was better, although the alignment system was so hard to work with in both of them.
