Swimsuit season is almost here, and gamers who won't be spending the summer in a dank basement chained to the system of their choice might want to work on their figures. That's where Ubisoft comes in: The French publisher announced today that it is bringing Gold's Gym to the Nintendo Wii.

The world's largest full-service gym chain will make its gaming debut on March 31 with Gold's Gym: Cardio Workout. The game will be compatible with the Wii Balance Board and serve as a personal trainer. Exercises featured in the game include cardio boxing, running, sit-ups, and other activities that can be done without a game console, TV, and Balance Board peripheral. However, the game will track calories burned and weight loss, and will challenge players to more difficult workouts as they get in better shape.

Once players' bodies are presentable in public, they can also use a coupon included with each copy of the game for a free one-week trial membership at a real-world Gold's Gym location.

At first when i heard of this game i thought it would be cool but as a cardio boxer only thought a boxer trainer would be cool but then they add all this orther crap sure it would be best to go to a trainer but some of us have lives with kids and jobs that affords us little to no time so a game console works great think about that b4 you knock all the possibilities for a workout on a game console but give us a little something thats better than just the fit i can do everything on that in one night n 2 hours after kids are in bed so in general like the premise dont like the construction of this platform

Didn't Jillian Anderson's workout try this already. Granted, I own WiiFit. However, this is my prediction. I betcha that before the year is up, that they will release a Weight Machine that places the WiiMote in the end of a weight bar. And, that tracks your reps, records the speed of your reps, and tells you how strong you are. Gimme a break..........

Wow !!! People at Nintendo are saying that third parties do not support them fully and they are allowing this crap to be released on the Wii. If Nintendo wants the end of shovelware then they must lead the intiative themselves. For people who are thinking that buying this fill make them fit and buffed you know if you like Jog in the park everyday it will make you much healthier plus the best of all is it is free.

Hey, here's an idea. How about you just go for a damn run every once in a while, maybe do some pushups and crunches, and NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS. Seriously, the draw is that it'll challenge you to do more work every week? You don't need a damn game for that.

Biggest waste of money ever. Moreso than the powerglove.

Another one of these? There's too many fitness games on the Wii.

Hahah Wii Fit nor Gold's Gym will ever get the fatasses of the video game world into shape. This will probably work about as well as those "magic" weight loss pills. Here's a tip, go outside and run until you pass out, which is probably about a city block.

    1. Gold's Gym is a steroid haven and about as much of a pinnacle of health and fitness as an NFL locker room circa 1972, heroin baths included. They should have gone with a gym chain that has actual fitness in mind, such as Lifetime or LA Fitness.

    2. The WiiFit Balance Board is a purely ineffective cardio device. It is fine for proprioception, strength training, balance, yoga, etc... but it is simply ineffective at the overall movement required to attain an effective bout of cardiovascular exercise.

wow! that is a smart business move for sure! genius... this can open up a whole new market for gyms. try out our game, then check out our gym! not a bad idea, america needs to get off the damn couch and get healthy! i love video games, but i also run and work out and eat well. if you can't be alive, then what's the point of living?

This is going to sell like crazy! Seems like a dumb idea for the core gamers, but could you imagine what the casual gamers will do with this?!

Of course, Ubisoft is setting themselves up for many lawsuits.

I'm not sure who at Ubisoft felt Gold's would be the best partner but Gold's Gym's tend to be more focused on the body-building, weight-lifting, biceps so large they could implode & 16 pack abs demographic. If you ask me, partnering with a more casual chain like 24 Hour Fitness or Bally or L.A. would have been a better partnership for the gamer demographic. Not that there aren't jacked people at any of those gyms, but in my experience I've seen more regular joe's at them than Gold's.

Ubisoft is starting to specialize in making things transition from real life challenges onto the video game market, like quitiing smoking, learning a new language, I have yet to try one of these games but I'm not sure if it's always a good alternative to simply "living". What's next, a virtual cookbook?

I think this is a positive trend in the game world. As long as the "fitness" genre keeps evolving it could turn into something special. However, right now.....its not very....good.
