Resident Evil 5 red Xbox 360 bundle confirmed

Microsoft releases details of limited-edition 120 Elite bundle coming to UK, North America, and Australia; $399 US bundle available March 13.

It's no secret that Resident Evil 5 is one of the biggest game launches this quarter. Hot on the heels of another Capcom sequel, Street Fighter IV, RE5 will be spreading across Europe and North America like an infectious disease on Friday the 13th. To coincide with the third-person shooter's Japanese release (where it's known as Biohazard 5), Sony and Capcom revealed a special branded PlayStation 3 console for the island nation. However, it appears that Capcom isn't finished with RE5-bundled consoles, at least not in Western markets.

Following a special announcement via Xbox Live yesterday, in which RE5 and Lost Planet producer Jun Takeuchi confirmed a sequel to the 2007 third-person shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Microsoft's Major Nelson has announced today another piece of Capcom-related news. The red Xbox 360 is officially confirmed and will be on sale in "very limited" quantities on the same day that RE5 launches in both North American and PAL territories, Friday March 13.

Microsoft has confirmed that the red console will be available in the US for $399; Canadian, European, and Australian prices have not yet been confirmed. Specifics on the Australian bundle have not been officially announced by Microsoft, but the EU and US bundle will contain a red Xbox 360 Elite, a red wireless controller, a 120GB hard drive, a copy of Resident Evil 5, an exclusive Resident Evil Premium Theme, a black wired headset, and HDAV, HDMI, and Ethernet cables. As a bonus, Microsoft and Capcom are throwing in a voucher to download Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for free.

    I wonder if I can trade in my old XBox 360 elite, switch out the hard drives, and transfer my account settings so I can still play the XBLA Marketplace games I downloaded without any hitches. Then there's the question of whether it's really worth it for what would be my first red console and an "exclusive premium theme" for a game I care next to nothing about. I'll have to ask a few game stores how much store credit I can get for a black 360 Elite.

    Like the white xbox, only not as good looking.

    As for the RROD, seriously, no one goes on about PS2 laser eye failures, and they were a massive problem. Just shut up about it already. It hasn't been an issue for about a year now.

    It actually looks pretty cool.
    If I were to buy a 360 this would definitely be it.
    Right now I'm happy with just my PS3.

    I also had my launch 360 get the RROD, but mine wasn't until a couple of years later when Halo 3 came out. I guess it couldn't handle all those hours I logged. I haven't had a problem since it was repaired. I also have a PS3 and a Wii, and the only one that hasn't died on me is the Wii!

    I totally agree with you about the nature of electronics. They can't last forever.

    I bought a 360 on launch day and it crashed the next week. The one I got a month later lasted for three and a half years before it RRODed. I'm getting this one cause of the jasper chipset. I feel pretty good about my 3.5 years on a xenon chipset with heavy heavy use. No complaints from me. Doesn't bother me at all. My first playstation, the original one in the huge box, lasted about four years. It bothers me a little people expect this stuff to last forever. When was the last time any computer lasted forever?

    And that ... is coming from a Playstation owner-only since a decade and a half so not all Playstation 3 fans are dumb ^^ We play games so we get fun out of it!! All goes to whatever you prefer and to me ... I always liked the Dual Shock better and the exclusives ... but that's just my opinion

    I have a launch X360, and it's so loud that I wanted a newer, quieter console. I looked all over Atlanta and couldn't find an Elite with Jasper, so I bit the bullet and pre-ordered this. Since I was going to buy the game anyway, I figure I save a little money on the console. I am hoping that it comes equipped with the Jasper chipset, as rumored. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!

    It would be nice to have, but I'm not buying another 360 because it's pretty. I have the controller they sold separate anyways so I'm happy.

    no one is going to buy same system and everything a lil bit overpriced and rohan75 they didnt install the fixes in these systems figured out the problem a week ago that they used cheaply bought hardware to make profit

    If these red Sexboxes have Jasper chipsets like the rumors say, then this is the one to get: RRODs will be few and far between, if there are any at all. I've already got mine preordered. I've waited over three years to purchase either a 360 or a PS3, and I think the wait will be worth it.

    But as I said on Kotaku, Street Fighter IV is the game that made me preorder the Resident Evil 5 360 Bundle.....

    along with The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match for PS2.

    If you're going to be a hater at least be an informed/intelligent one so you don't appear ignorant AND uneducated. While it's no secret the 360 was rushed to market and was riddled with quality and design issues, the 360 has been (and remains still) under constant evolution since it was introduced and the quality, type, specification, manufacturing process, and assembly of Xbox 360 components has drastically improved since 05/06. Making the same "at least I don't have RRoD" comments you made 3 years ago, no longer carry much weight for the PS3 Fanboy arguement, especially now that Microsoft will cover the consoles repair and have it back to you in a week complete with updated components and 1 month of XBL for the week they robbed you of. As for red - it's not for me, but to each their own. There's a whole slew of "touch of red" Flatscreen TV's being released including LG's "Scarlett" lineup so one of these consoles might complement that type of setup nicely.

    I notice that anyone who even mentions the rrod has been getting alot of thumbs downs. Looks like there's alot of idiot children out there that never experienced a video game system that was designed to last. I've owned an NES, Super NES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Playstation, PS2, green-screen GB, GBSP, GBDS and have never ever had to replace a system until I purchased a POS 360. Don't get me wrong, I love the games but it's poor quality is undeniable.

    Everyone seems to be down on the fact that they are coming out with a red elite. I like it though. I am glad that it's not painted with RE graphics. So what if it's not. If you don't loke it simply don't buy it. I traded in the Wii and all my Wii games. Midnight release of Resident Evil 5 and a limited edition red elite. I am there so there.

    Let me get this straight Microsoft has a chance to make a Resident Evil 5 bundle. With a limited edition Xbox 360 and all they can come up with is red. Red? Microsoft can't be a little creative. I like the fact that they're including the game and some DLC but making the system red instead of going with a cool umbrella symbol or the imfected or even just the RE5 logo. No they just go with generic red that just doesn't make any sence to me.

    But that not the point I was trying to make. Its not "Oh no, no more exclusives!!!" Its "Why get mad if a game is eventually ported to another system?" None of the people who are freaking out about "F*** M$!!! I don't want to see ANYTHING by Square, Konami, or (fill in the blank, I don't follow game companies THAT tightly... I'm wayyy to cool for that ) come out on ANYTHING except for PS3! " Without exclusives, each system has its ups and downs still. It helps the cheapest system, but its not the end-all. I wouldn't buy a Wii to play Madden, NBA2k, or a plethora of other games.... I wouldn't buy Xbox if I was into Anime, and wanted Blueray, because its still a blueray player. Which controller is more comfortable? Who has the best bells and whistles? Oh look! Whats this? Match.comLive! Woah! Men and women lacking real-life social skills are buying 360s!

    Fanboyism in this forum has been the only place that I have ever seen people argue that capitalism works best when there is less fair competition. Hey, maybe if none of them have exclusives... the prices might drop. Systems would have to compete for fanbases. More money would be made in games. Anybody here who owns at least one of the same game on multiple systems raise your hand!

    My reasoning for the decline in exclusives is that the cost of developing games has significantly increased and what better way to recoup the costs than by putting the game out on as many systems as possible. We are in times when a single game can either make or break a company.

    Heard Star Ocean hasn't gotten the best reviews by websites, around an 8 if I remember right. Although, I've seen normal gamers giving it about a 9+, good luck to the game and 360 sales because we're gonna need a solid selling game this year.
