Harmonix has in many ways built its business on delivering weekly downloadable content to supplement its flagship rhythm franchise, Rock Band. Unfortunately, those transactions were limited to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, two systems with a combined installed base that will soon be eclipsed by Nintendo's Wii.

Beginning in January, Harmonix did at last open its DLC store to owners of Nintendo's system, promising that content previously released on other consoles would eventually arrive for the Wii. This week, Harmonix makes good on those words, saying The Cars' self-titled 1978 debut album will available for Wii Rock Band 2 owners on February 24. The album made its debut on Microsoft's and Sony's systems in May 2008.

The Cars' album packs eight songs, and it excludes "Just What I Needed," which was individually released onto the Wii Rock Band Store in January. All of the songs must be purchased separately at a rate of 200 Wii points ($2.00). The downloadable set list is as follows:

"Good Times Roll"
"My Best Friend's Girl"
"I'm in Touch With Your World"
"Don't Cha Stop"
"You're All I've Got Tonight"
"Bye Bye Love"
"Moving in Stereo"
"All Mixed Up"

Unfortunately, Harmonix's weekly Wii updates have not yet caught up to its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. This week, the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game will see the addition of eight songs. For country fans, Harmonix has on offer Drive By Truckers' "3 Dimes Down," Lucinda Williams' "Can't Let Go," Neko Case's "People Got a Lot of Nerve," Old 97's "Time Bomb (Live)," and Steve Earle's "Satellite Radio." The weekly update also includes three tracks from Jimmy Eat World: "Futures," "Lucky Denver Mint," and "Sweetness."

Each track can be purchased individually for $1.99 (160 Microsoft points). Alternatively, the Alt Country Pack can be had for $8.49 (680 Microsoft points), while the Jimmy Eat World Pack costs $5.49 (440 Microsoft points).

    DLC is such a waste of money. Why pay 2bucks a song when you get like 80 for the $50 when u get the game....

    to gnbfd, I dont see anyone here complaining, im pretty happy with what the wii has, and rock band is no exception to my happiness, (and RB2 isnt a port, its a multiplatform release,)

    Theres still not very much coming out lately on the wii store to warrant me getting some wii points, (except for boston, you can never have too much boston, and the wii store has like, 9 boston songs,) so the store isnt bad right now.

    Oh my gosh! I am SO EXCITED for the Jimmy Eat World pack. I've been hoping they'd put Lucky Denver Mint on Rock Band for so long. I mean, that drum solo! So awesome!

    And Sweetness is in my top five favorite songs of all time. "dizzydance" is my username because of that song. Eee!

    Guess coming out on Wii makes sence... where most Cars fans must be in their 70' now... can just see the oldtimers rockin' out at the old folks home.

    also, at least Harmonix gives you all the DLC (eventually) while Activision can't give you the best DLC they've ever gotten (Metallica + Hendrix=WIN... except on Wii)

    DAMN WTF is wrong with you Wii owners?
    Harmonix is lazy and gives you a PS2 port (which is still better than nothing) and you're not happy)
    Now they basically give you a 360/PS3 port. INCLUDING online play and DLC. And you're STILL not happy. God damn. I thought 360 fanboys were annoying but at least they aren't always asking for MORE! MORE! MORE!! Seriously just get a ****ing PS3 or 360 if you're THAT into games, because, quite frankly, the Wii just doesn't cut it. And you should know that by now.
