Guilty Gear Accent-ed again on PS2, PSP, Wii

Oft-revised Arc System Works fighting franchise set to receive a "definitive installment" this spring with Accent Core Plus.

The Guilty Gear franchise is known as much for its seemingly constant parade of iterations and updates as it is for the frantically technical style of 2D fighting. But with developer Arc System Works looking to expand beyond the series with last year's Battle Fantasia and the upcoming BlazBlue, the studio's days with the franchise may be numbered.

If that's the case, Aksys Games is looking to capitalize on it. The publisher today announced a North American release for what it calls "the definitive installment in the series," Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus. Set for launch this spring, the game will be released for the Wii, PSP, and PlayStation 2.

As for what's new in Accent Core Plus, the roster of playable characters is expanding to 25 with the return of the armored Justice and the dimunitive Kliff, who carries a sword twice his size. Beyond that, the game will feature a new story mode, a retuned survival mode, and three-man team battles.

GG going the route of SF2 and releasing like a billion versions of the same game. Anyways, there are plenty of other fighting games coming out, don't see why people are so annoyed that this isn't really a new game.

Obviously Street Fighter 4 is a big one, and that one is coming really soon. Blazblue, which is essentially just Guilty Gear in HD is already out in arcades, only a matter of time before it gets ported over to consoles. KoFXII coming out this year to arcades and that'll eventually make consoles. Not to mention everyone seems to have forgotten SSF2THDR which was a good game with online and all that jazz.

thats great i guess... a little late though. With all the competition (SF4, KoF12, KoF98UM, SSA) they'll be lucky if even the biggest GG fans get it, since the GG fans I know either already imported or are still PO'd over GG2

Another GG rehash...Whoopdee-friggen-do. I stopped caring about GG after XX came out. Bring KOF XII out already. Let's see a *GOOD* fighting game for a change...

How about an anime while we're at it? I really wish they had turned that anime intro back then into an actual series. shame

They should bring the games to 360 and PS3. I think it's stupid as hell to not to.
Still, I guess i'll get this game for PSP....

to little to late imo. ive been waiting for accent core plus to hit leave the shores of asia for some time now and with games like SFIV on the fore front im done waiting. i bet there isnt an official release date yet which only hurts matters. ill just wait for blazblue no matter what console its released on because i own all 3 consoles even though it looks to good to be a wiil game since its not shovel ware.

I hope that Aksys Games bring back Guilty Gear Isuka and Judgment for the Wii.
Please release Blazblue for multi-platform (Wii, PS3 and XBOX 360) for all the 2D fighting fans.

    @Dead of Alive

I hate to tell you this but the truth is the Guilty Gear series was a hit in japan because arcades were still popular but, in PS2 console generation arcades died out and the Guilty Gear franchise had to go with it. I think it was obvious the series was dieing when Robo-kye was introduced (when characters are intraduced that are different versions of a already existing character it shows the creators have run out of ideas.) But we still have downloads of the game.

    Other new characters A.B.A., OrderSol

    Behold: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3902/dodging_striking_winning_the_.php?page=5

The reason why we will never get a Guilty Gear X3 by Arc System Works EVAR! I can't believe Sega now has the rights. They'd better do something with it. I want my GGX sequel.

Honestly, I think that a full HD version of this game series would be fine. We really don't need it in 3D... although, to be honest, it would need to evolve to be successful in the long run. Too many kids get into gaming and think 2D is old-school.

Guilty Gear is one of my favorite fighting games but this is just a bad joke i mean another revision?? i was happy with GGXX Slash and Isuka. Come on! cut it out and just start with the dev of GGX3, oh and DO NOT MAKE IT 3D PLEASE! That will seriously ruin the flavor of the game.

Its about freaking time. I can finally give my import psp game a break and try out the story mode and mission modes. All we need now is a good Guilty Gear game to play online(other than the xbox)

Nah, I'm fine with GG X2. It even has a small cool anime trailer for extra. Something that Accent Core lack.
