Naruto Ultimate Ninja 4 brawls to PS2

Namco Bandai and CyberConnect2's RPG/fighter based on Shippuden story arc heads to Sony's legacy console in March.

Even if the PlayStation 2 is now in its ninth year on the market, Sony's workhorse console is still getting support from third-party developers. Not a week after Sony announced that the PS2 had sold its 50 millionth unit in North America, Namco Bandai has announced that Ultimate Ninja 4: Naruto Shippuden will arrive in the region on Sony's aging console this March.

The first installment in Naruto's spin-off Shippuden series to be released in North America, Ultimate Ninja 4 picks back up with the titular spiky-haired anime star two and a half years after his departure from Hidden Leaf Village. The game will follow the events portrayed in Viz Media's Naruto Shippuden anime series, with Naruto returning to the village to confront a new host of villains and ne'er-do-wells.

Like previous installments in the Ultimate Ninja series, Naruto Shippuden features a number of different modes, accommodating fans of both mano-a-mano fighting and role-playing. The Master mode is where players can experience the Shippuden story arc, an original line that Namco Bandai notes isn't available through other media. The Story mode drops players into the role of Naruto and relies heavily on role-playing and action-platforming gameplay mechanics.

In the Master mode, players will also be able to unlock playable characters for use in the Free Battle mode. The fighting section of the game includes 52 characters from the Naruto universe, including many pulled from the Naruto Shippuden anime storyline.

Ultimate Ninja 4: Naruto Shippuden is in development at CyberConnect2, which most recently created Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm for the PlayStation 3.

    Sweet another Naruto Game for my collection. Considering I have Naruto Ultimate Ninja, Ultimate Ninja 2 and 3 and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Strom. NARUTO RULES!!!!!!!

    This is sweet. It is awesome that the PS2 sold its 50 millionth. That means more people will buy UN4. I can't wait to go pickup my copy today.

    Uhh, the 3 previous Ultimate Ninja games are the games that were in Japan first, but ok.

    and with the "you have ps3 and can't play omgudz" Ps3's do have backwards compatability... not all, but a lot.

    This game looks so cool, I can't wait for it to come out tomorrow. It is gonna have so many new characters, that I just can't believe it.

    asome ilove naruto i have been watching shippudden episodes at naruto.com and i love that i have a ps2 aaaha to all you losers that just have ps3s and xbox360 s and stuff i have a xbox 360 and my sisiter has a wii and ps3 s but the games for those systems are a bit expensive this naruto game is going to be asome yeah!

    i mainly think they should make it for both systems anyway.
    it isnt much to do but put the data on the blu ray disk and seal it.
    i think it will sell way more copies this way.

    I gotta admit i was a little dissapointed when i heard Shippuden Sasuke wasn't going to be in this game but the next one,but still this game kicks ass and I can't wait to get it

    Its funny because I've been watching Shippuden for the past few days. I'm on episode 51 and I have to say I like it a lot better than the original Naruto. Its like what DBZ was to Dragon Ball. I hope they maintain Sai's a$$holeness in the game. If you want a great site for anime and other videos check out OVGuide.com, they have everything. Next after Shippuden, Hakuto No Ken anime series, the original Fist of the North Star series.

    The robots don't like crappy,shallow fighting games like Naruto Ultimate Ninja.

    For the idiots who like those crappy games and continue to support them and instead of wanting a good and REAL fighting game base on Naruto,the robots will get you.=)

    You *might* IF you have the 80 GB that came with MGS4, that is the last PS3 to have BC with PS2. I say *might* because it's half software emulation, half hardware on the MGS4 80GB. All PS3s prior to the 80GB have full hardware BC with PS2 of course.

    That's why they put this part in: "The Master mode is where players can experience the Shippuden story arc, an original line that Namco Bandai notes isn't available through other media." So it doesn't matter if they translated it or not since it's not following the actual plot.

    has shippuden been dubbed to english yet cause if it hasnt this game will be ahead of the anime. hopefully if they make ultimate ninja storm 2 it will have more characters and moves and carry over into shippuden

    im excited i dunno why people complain about it being named Naruto Ultimate Ninja 4, and that when a title name hits 3 or 4 it should be dead...than what about Halo 3, what about COD 3, 4 what about those? they still are great games or am i wrong?

    I'm sorry guy's. I kinda like Naruto but Ultimate Ninja 4? C'mon. Dosen't that sound a little to much? If they keep making these games, Gamespot is gonna keep giving it the score it deserves. MEDIOCRE.

    Well, we know Sony will be the first getting Naruto Shippuden in America. Makes me wonder if Tomy will ever bother with Shippuden US for Wii and DS. Maybe not because pretty much everything Naruto has gone to Namco Bandai, no matter who makes it.
