Last February, Sony released the PlayStation Portable real-time rhythm game Patapon at a $20 suggested retail price to entice hesitant consumers to give the unconventional game a chance. Apparently Sony was pleased with the game's performance at that price point, given that the company announced today that it would be taking the same strategy with LocoRoco 2.

Scheduled for a February 10 release on the PSP, LocoRoco 2 retains the original game's distinctive visual style, emphasis on 2D platforming action, and catchy music. New additions to the game include underwater action, a new multiplayer mode, story-based levels, and rhythm-based minigame segments.

Already released overseas, LocoRoco 2 received a score of 8.5 from GameSpot Australia.

I was at GameStop the other day to put $5 down on Killzone 2 to get the demo, and I asked about when LocoRoco 2 was coming out 'cause I forgot but they also told me that if you put $5 down on LocoRoco 2 that there's a demo available for it, I passed that up but thought I'd just tell you all if anyone is totally pumped for it and might take advantage of the demo

Sounds like a good strategy to sell a game, although it may just even out.
More people buy a cheap game. vs. Less people buy an expensive game.

In my opinion, this is the price that all portable games should be. $20 is the price point at which most people won't debate whether or not to buy a game. Of course, I think PS3/360 games should be $40 too, but I'm just dreaming there.

This is fantastic news. And perhaps, it would be good to note that the first LocoRoco was also released at a retail price of $19.95.

I don't wanna be the only negative one, but this isn't necessarily good news for PSP fans. Cheap games are awesome, no doubt, but when you release one of your best and most popular game sequels for a budget price, well it says something about your software sales. I hope LocoRoco 2 does well, but PSP software sales in general have become quite shallow.

And before you hate, imagine if Mario Galaxy had come out at $30, wouldn't have looked too good for the Wii.

the hefty price tag on the original Loco Roco was the reason I did not buy it. This saves me the heartache!

Nice, thats a price most of us can afford in these tough times, less then a month away now!

Let's hope Sony maintains this strategy for Patapon 2 as well.
