Ghostbusters sliming consoles June 16

Atari confirms third ghost-busting adventure will be hitting on all platforms across Europe and America as the first half of 2009 draws to a close.

Ghostbusters The Video Game has certainly had an interesting journey so far. Dan Aykroyd, who is lending his hand to writing credits alongside fellow Ghostbuster Harold Ramis, confirmed the game's existence back in early 2007. At the time, the game was being developed by Sierra Entertainment. After Activision's merger with Sierra parent-company Vivendi Games, Ghostbusters was one of several games that Activision decided to drop from its release schedule, at which point the game's status became unclear.

That is, until rumours appeared and were eventually confirmed that Atari would take over publishing duties of the Terminal Reality-developed action game, which is a direct sequel to the original Ghostbusters movies. However, the leaks didn't stop there; yesterday, Sony Pictures stated in a press release that the game would be coming out "worldwide" alongside 25th-anniversary editions of the movies in the week of June 16.

Atari UK has now confirmed with GameSpot UK a release date of June 19 for Europe and June 16 for North America on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 2. A spokesperson didn't confirm whether any special editions would be released. For more on Ghostbusters The Video Game, read GameSpot's latest preview.

It's not going to be bad.
    This is god damn GHOSTBUSTERS.

    I have faith.
I hope is sells millions of copies, more than Guitar Hero to rub it in the face of Activision.
Christ Activision you published the old games with David Crane doing the Commodore 64 version.
Stupid Activision, go sling out your crap Rock Band, pointless Wolfenstein 3-D sequels, crap versions of DOOM (DOOM3 sucked, and the Xbox ports of the original DOOM games suck as well, which is disgusting seeing as the Xbox was a glorifeid computer and the original DOOM games ran on a 486 computer back in the day)

Okay, I think that you missed my point. Yes, it makes sense from a business point of view, but these developers typically share assets between PS2 and Wii versions, and THAT is the biggest problem. PS2 and GAMECUBE were at different graphical levels, the Wii is so much higher than PS2 in terms of graphics, and I'm tired of people making games for it that look WORSE than RE4.(It looked great on GameCube, but that was last-gen.)

Based on a movie from 1984, abd being released on all platforms... hope it doesn't really suck.

Activision will probably end up regretting letting this title go. We're (fans) going to make it a hit.

    @chenzo22

I have to agree, the PSP is on the verge of failing. Only game I still play on it is Killzone: Liberation. There's just no other great games that stand out on the system for me.

regardless if the game is fun or not, I'm buying it. It's guaranteed to have a GREAT story if Ramis and Aykroyd are doing the writing once again. Those guys are so damn creative.

why wont they make a ghostbusters game for the psp? psp is dying, they dont have any good hot games coming out. they missin out on this great title as well as others.

vandal_galm -- Haha, I was thinking the same thing about templar_bladema. And really, if you're gonna spend $5000...build it yourself...you will get much much more bang for your buck. And if you don't know how to build your own, you shouldn't even be spending $5000 on a computer to play games.

i don't know what makes me happier.
the fact that this game is gonna see a release, or the fact a game i cant wait for is actually gonna be a early summer release and not clog up the already large holiday release schedule. other developers need to take a hint here...

I love how they are giving the Wii a different cartoonier art style that suits it´s graphical power better(worked great with shaun White snowboarding).Plus, i used to love the Ghostbusters cartoon series. Still, they better use the hardware tho. If the game ends up looking exactly the same as the PS2 version i am going to punch someone(preferably a game developer).

I hope ghostbusters does good. I have heard to much for too long for it to be bad. I would be fine if it was a grown up version of Luigies Mansion.

@ templar_bladema: forgive me if i misinterpreted your comment, but did you just complain about people's ability to afford several consoles while boasting about your $5000 alienware pc? (btw, alienware sucks).

Seeing how your computer cost three times mine. I could buy 3 PS3s, 3 360 4 Wiis, and decent computer to work and play on. By the way, I only have PS1, PS2, SNES, 360 and a New Mac. lol By no means am I rich. I gave my original xbox away to my Sister.

XxParasite- They make games for PS2 and PS3 simultaneously because, unlike you rich people that can afford every new console and latest graphics cards for ur PCs, I am stuck with my 2008 $5000 m15x Alienware. And if a game is released for both PS2 and PS3, but not PC (which, thankfully, is not the case for Ghostbusters) then I have the option of PS2.

  • Lance_Kalzas

Sony has said since the launch of the PS3 they will continue to support the PS2 by releasing new games for it. How could they not when they've sold 140 million of them and they're continuing to sell just as many of those as the PS3? Let's use the business version of common sense here. Sony is far more likely to make more money off of the PS2 version of this game than the PS3 version when you look at the numbers. It's basic statistics...

  • yboucher

    Posted Jan 9, 2009 5:21 am GMT

XxParasite - Once you're developing for either the PS2 or the Wii, it usually makes sense (pending marketing dept. approval) to make the other version. And it's not a question of being lazy, it's just that it IS very easy to share assets from one and the other.

  • SoNin360

    Posted Jan 9, 2009 4:55 am GMT

XxParasite- believe it or not they still make games for the PS2 lol...

There's a PS2 version... AND a PS3 one!? Do I need to explain why that's not okay? Imagine if there were a game that came out simultaneously on SNES and N64. Hopefully, if you didn't see a problem before, then now you do... Especially when developers get lazy and share assets between PS2 and Wii versions.
