Super Street Fighter Remix-es 250K

Capcom's download redux of acclaimed fighter reaches quarter-million milestone after record-setting performances on XBLA, PSN.

Capcom built itself on the back of such classic gaming franchises as Bionic Commando and Street Fighter, and the publisher has found ample success reviving those two brands in 2008. In August, Bionic Commando Rearmed producer Ben Judd proclaimed the GRIN-developed redux for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and PC a digital-download "juggernaut," thanks to first-week sales of 130,000 units.

Today, Capcom has returned to tout Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix as a juggernaut in its own right. By way of the Capcom-Unity blog, the publisher announced that the arcade update has sold in excess of 250,000 units across the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions since their respective November 25 and 26 rollouts.

According to Capcom's John Diamonon, that tally equates to a record-setting performance in the digital-download sphere. "HD Remix has shattered both day-one and week-one sales records and will most likely break 30-day sales records as well," he said. "It's on its way to becoming the highest-grossing digital title ever."

A digital game. Dammit, if only it could be on a disc!

Aw man! I'm a freak who likes my games on disc. (No disrespect to peeps who like digital stuff though.)

I phoned Sony UK yesterday and asked why it was taking so long. He said it was copyrigt issues. He couldn't give me an answer on why these copyright issues didn't stop it from being released on LIVE in the UK. I think he was feeding me BS to be honest. He said there's still no confirmed reads date for SSF2HD for the UK. He guessed it would be some time in January.

I'm glad you got it but I'd rather wait than give personal details to that site.

Am in Australia, and like Europe it's still not released here. So, I bit the bullet and made a US PS3 account and purchsed the game thru an Entropay account (Visa virtual card) set up online. Worked like a charm, and am playing it as we speak. I just couldn't wait any longer.

This is great news to me. It beats Mega Man 9 by a long shot. With Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Street Fighter II HD Remix combined, that proves that HD remixes beat 8-bit revisits. Bionic Commando Rearmed was released a month before Mega Man 9 anyway. What about a Breath of Fire Remix? Or maybe remix Mega Man 1-6 in anime-style HD graphics or make Mega Man 10 in that style, as well as a game that would tie between Mega Man classic and Mega Man X series, that way.

I didn't say my not buying it would change anything. It was up for download on Xbox LIVE in the UK three weeks ago. WTF is taking Sony Europe so long? This isn't the first time this has happened either. We alwYs get Sony stuff much later than America. Me and many others are sick of it. I'm not buying SSF2. By the time it gets released in Europe SFIV will probably be about to be releasd anyway, if our release date is the same as the US? Being a Sony customer sucks sometimes.

Now a Final Fight Remix THAT would be hot!

SF HD Remix rocked but I would adore Final Fight with online play and possibly redone 2D sprites.

With regard to people not getting SFIIHD at all due to there being such a long delay on the EU PSN, of course that's going to happen. If it comes out practically on top of SFIV, it doesn't take a genius to figure out where most of our pounds or euros are going to be spent.

Just go pick up a Hori Arcade stick they came out on both systems. Plus PS3 is coming out with a special control for SF4 that looks like the Sega Genesis 6 button controls. Probably the smoothest fighter control ever invented next to the Arcade stick.

Why are all these Euros crying about not having this game yet? You guys had first crack a the Killzone 2 beta. FIRST CRACK. And I haven't heard word of it sense. All you have to do is go on PS Blog and blow it up and you'll get your answers. . . . . Not here

And rightly so. SSF2HHDR (How do you like THAT acronym?!) is tons of fun, appropriately priced, and requires minimal commitment of time when online or off. I hope other publishers follow suit. Nothing beats the classics!!

Your not buying it, just because they didn't bring it to the UK fast enough? That's going to make them want to bring it faster next time...?

  • x-2tha-z

    Posted Dec 19, 2008 8:34 am GMT

I decided not to get this on 360 because the 360's d-pad is crap. I was gonna get the PS3 version. Problem is I live in England and three weeks after it became available on XBOX LIVE in my country Sony STILL hasn't put it up for download in the UK PSN. Europe gets screwed yet again. I've decided not to buy SSF2 now. I'm sick of Sony giving us games weeks after the US gets them.

HDRemix is delayed in Europe for the PS3 because the localisation was done with BabelFish and SCEE had the temerity to notice. The 360 version's translation was every bit as garbled but slipped through the net. A quick forum search should reveal how to get the US version on an EU PS3, and at least Sony didn't region-lock the games so you don't need to mod to play it

  • lowkey254

SSFIITHDR should get GotY in my opinion. I play it more than any other games on disc, and I have much more fun. I would like to see all of Capcom's 2d fighters go digital. I would never buy another disc again... for a while at least.

Actually I was quite disappointed...the updated graphics are really bland and some look downright bad (Fei long...)...Sorry, but it looks like a flash game.. I love Streetfighter, it is THE franchise ever...but I don't understand the hype.. they would better do a arcade version of SFIII third-strike, even tough most of the roster is crap....

i think the sheer awesomeness of street fighter 4 will quench our thirsts enough to not even care about another remake of an OLD capcom fighter...

but it will probably make us want Capcom to create a new crossover. they dont have the rights to MARVEL anymore...but I think there are more than enough characters in the universe to create a "CAPCOM vs STREET FIGHTER" game. Dante / Samanosuke anyone? Or maybe the original ZERO from the MMX series...ahhh

Know The Next They Should Do Is Marvel vs Capcom & Marvel vs Capcom 2.

  • Henninger

    Posted Dec 18, 2008 10:38 pm GMT

Marvel Vs. Capcom should b next. I agree with every1 that stated that. I'll even take the earlier versions of the series (X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter or Marvel Vs. Capcom). They also need 2 put Capcom Vs. SNK on there cuz that game wuz fun.
