NASCAR Kart Racing pits on Wii

EA's stock car racing franchise breaks hiatus on Nintendo's platform with stylized installment on February 10.

In June, EA took the lid off of Wii All-Play, an initiative designed to customize the publisher's annualized sports titles to the tastes of the nontraditional gamer sect populating Nintendo's best-selling console. At that time, the publisher rattled off a number of its flagship sim sports franchises that would see custom installments, including Madden NFL, NCAA Football, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NBA Live, and FIFA Soccer.

One franchise not included in that list was the publisher's NASCAR racing series, which has been absent from Nintendo's platforms since 2004's standout racer NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup. As it would turn out, EA in fact does have plans to pit NASCAR on Nintendo's console, and the final result won't be far off from the All-Play aesthetic.

The publisher today announced NASCAR Kart Racing, dubbed the "the first and only NASCAR title available for the Wii." The stylized racer features caricatures of 14 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, as well as 10 additional animated racers, each with its own custom attributes. The game accommodates up to four players in locale, head-to-head races.

True to EA's flagship NASCAR racer, the game Wii game will include a number of official tracks, including Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Dover International Speedway, and Bristol Motor Speedway. The kart racer also promises to transport gamers to a variety of exotic locales, ranging from deserts to freeways to junkyards.

NASCAR Kart Racing is currently slated to arrive for the Wii on February 10, five days before the 51st running of the Daytona 500. The full lineup of official NASCAR Drivers is listed below.

Jeff Burton
Kyle Busch
Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Carl Edwards
Jeff Gordon
Denny Hamlin
Kevin Harvick
Jimmie Johnson
Kasey Kahne
Matt Kenseth
Elliot Sadler
Tony Stewart

This looks like rubbish and it's not even rubbish PS3 and 360 owners can complain about. I mean 14 drivers. EA is ruining NASCAR games and they need to give the rights to maybe CODEMASTERS or someone else who knows how to make a decent racing game.

NASCAR games have not been on Nintendo since 2004 and EA now makes a NASCAR game for only Nintendo. This is the first year in over ten years that a NASCAR game will not be on a Playstation console. Sounds like rubbish to me.
But seriously, 14 drivers, come on EA step it up.

My ps3 definitely gets more play time than my Wii, but this game looks like a good one to play when your friends come over. Mario kart wii was a hit with my friends and I think this will be just as fun with a slightly different spin on it.

Love Mario Kart Wii but I've wanted a more serious karting game for so long! I hope this delivers.

I hate EA for buying major frachises and making them into generic games. I hate third-party developers for hashing out low-budgit games on the Wii. Now I have two reasons to not like EA.

I'm not sure if 14 drivers would be passable on the PS2........seriously, and if it's like mario kart, i can't wait to get the Bud Light power-up, which will act as star power.......and the bullet to the front will be the fed-ex guy or something...

Yeah, this sounds lame to most of us. EA is just trying to appeal to the broad casual gamer demographic that seems to be gobbling up the Wii consoles. That is what most devs are doing when it comes to Nintendo's console. It makes good business sense for them to go after the broadest spectrum of perspective customers. We can complain about the lack of AAA titles for the Wii all we want. The truth is, the core gamer is a minority. They don't cater to us because we don't matter to them.

Lets see XBOX 360 users are getting FORZA and Project Gotham Racing PS3 users are getting Gran turismo. While both consoles enjoy the Burnout series and for the Wii users( I was one of them)EA is now making this watered down version of a already great racing franchise.

NO leon Fenrir....It was the fact that the Gamecube was not coming out with games that killed it. Not games like this one.

  • leon-fenrir

    Posted Dec 4, 2008 8:14 pm PT

My god! It was games like this that killed the GameCube. And it will be games like this that kills the Wii. I remember when all the good games were on Nintendo's console. Nowadays, while awesome games like Fallout, Soul Calibur, Devil May Cry, etc are on PS3 and 360, poor Nintendo is stuck with Hello Kitty, High School Musical, and NASCAR Kart Racing while Mario, Link and the other 1st-party titles are virtually the only ones that are keeping the Wii from completely dying-out. Come on Nintendo, the Wii can use the GameCube controller and the Classic Controller, utilize the controllers to bring the big 3rd party titles in.

I see m&m's on one the cars. And as I recall a m&m kart racer is out for the wii and it is bad. So that pretty much tells you how this title will turn.

Heres a riddle on the N64 MarioKart64 was a huge success but MickyMouse Racers was a failure and why did this happen because MarioKart64 was good and MickyMouse Racers was a poor attempt to hash out a copy of MarioKart64 with a different franchise. Ten years latter the same thing is happening again.

I wonder what EA will tell their stock holders when this game crashes and burns. And this is why my Wii is collecting dust. I'm surprised Nintendo doesn't have any more watered down games for the system. Instead of GTA you might get Petty Theft Foot Pursuit. I'm about to beat mine to death with the balance board and it would probably be the last great game on the system. Good Grief!

$20 says it's more realistic than NASCAR 09 for 360 or PS3. Seriously - way to go EA!! Must be nice to have all that money to purchase the rights to a sport and completley **** it's fan base. Just whip out the cash and give em the finger. Thankfully I'm not a Wii owner who's been waiting for a NASCAR game - or I'd be on my way to EA's studios to burn it down.

    .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-..-.-.

Errr.. "NASCAR Kart Racing is currently slated to arrive for the Wii on February 10" That looks like a big rush to me... The average wii development time (to the shovelware) seems to be about 4-6 months... so, EA have already rushed this thing.
