Street Fighter HD Remix arrives next week

Capcom promotes November 26 Xbox 360 launch for revamped version of arcade fighter.

Capcom already said that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was planned for release this month, but with just two weeks remaining in November, the company has been mum about narrowing down the launch any further. Gamers concerned that certification woes will keep the remixed fighter bottled up until next month can breathe a little easier, given that Capcom today promoted a November 26 launch for the Xbox 360 edition of the downloadable game.

The news actually came from a screenshot accompanying a press release for Capcom's Street Fighter-branded "destination experience" as part of the much-hyped Xbox 360 dashboard update, the New Xbox Experience. The main story on the dashboard screenshot proclaims in no uncertain terms that HD Remix is "Coming Nov. 26 to Live Arcade." Other promoted items include a Street Fighter downloadable table for fellow Live Arcade game Pinball FX, and an HD Remix theme. A fourth panel is partially obscured, but makes reference to some other HD Remix-related event in December.

Considering the Wednesday, November 26 release date for the Xbox 360 edition, a November 27 launch for the PlayStation 3 edition of the game would be the standard, given Sony's insistence on Thursday releases for its PlayStation Network. However, next Thursday is the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, which may scuttle Sony's weekly update schedule. As of press time, Capcom had not returned GameSpot's request for comment on release dates for both versions of the game, and Sony had not said if it would be updating the PSN on Thanksgiving.

X CAPCOM X, I hear what you're saying, I hear that Capcom is to blame and not sony. I am just venting because I thought it would be a better idea to get the PS3 rather than an xbox, I just feel I made a grave mistake.

I am going to moan everyday until it comes out, when it does, if anyone has had a problem with me moaning, by all means add me as a friend on the PS3 network and try and take it out on me. Yamabushi13 is the name, Street Fighter 2 HD Remix is the game. Look forward to playing you all ;0)

By the way, I like the leaning nature of this article. It's funny: it ended up releasing for the PS3 earlier.

To add, the PS3 is the standard platform at most tournaments for this game.

It's still not with us UK PS3 owners. Sony PSNetwork took a big $h!t on us :0(

Microsoft had their $h!t together and all their customers are enjoying SF2HDR. I am not a happy bunny!

It is 00:21 in the morning and I can't find it on the PS Network, why are they doing this to me. I had to hear my friend who has a 360 playing it on the phone, rubbing salt into the wound. Where is the game...? I want to download it now... I want to play it now.

    :0(

I think Capcom, PS Network or who ever is doing this to me purposly!

well put, i wish we could battle cross platform that would rock. but it will never happen because with sony and microsoft its all about making those dollar bills.with microsoft just starting to make money with xbox and sony losing cash with every PS3 they make it will never happen.

Alright PSN gamers i have great news $14.99 is the price for nonstop beatem-up action. And guess what an added bonus that's only available to PS3(not that i really care but it's free) access to the street fighter underground remix soundtrack. I only got the price for PS3 but we all can assume it will be the same for 360. i just wish capcom would set up a server dedicated to PS3 and 360 so we could all battle it out. don't hate the 360 I just don't want or need one. And we have the tech to do cross platform games why aren't we using it. I would love to beat down some 360ers as Ken! Shoryuken! Shoryureppa! See you in the ring on the 25th!

I have both systems and going with my 360. Xbox live is so much better then the playstation network, servers on the network are always going down and downloading on the network takes forever. Online console gaming is best on Xbox live. As for the D-pad on the 360 I'm getting a aracde stick. to many Playstation fanboy just get over it guys

This is just an excerpt from the Capcom administrators blog. Official as i like to say. For all you Ps3 players rejoice we get it a day earlier than the 360. It's a good time to be a Street Fighter. First things first... let's make it official: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix drops for PlayStation Network on November 25, 2008, and on Xbox LIVE Arcade on November 26, 2008. Get hype!

Erm, perhaps it's due to my living in the UK, but I can't see why the Thanksgiving thing would be that much of a problem. People work pretty much any holiday over here, sometimes for a bit of overtime pay- does America just stop for Thanksgiving or something? Even if it did, faced with losing a week to the 360 version you'd think Sony would change the update day if it was really that much of a problem.

  • Iketeru_Guy

    Posted Nov 19, 2008 1:28 pm PT

I don't think they mean that people won't update their PS3's on Thanksgiving. The writer probably was alluding to the fact that Sony very well might not have anyone working that Thursday to update the PSN since it's Thanksgiving. My guess is that the update will either be done on Wednesday or Friday that week.

  • sdkingsht

    Posted Nov 19, 2008 10:47 am PT

that whole last paragraph sounds like a fanboy wrote it. "Sony's insistence on Thursday releases"...is that a bad thing cause you sure said it like it was. it's called a scheduled weekly update. since when does that require negative tone? the PS3 has released content on holidays before. it's no big deal. people are actually more likely to be on their PS3 on a holiday than regular week day.

Perhaps the "HD Remix" of the obscured panel is Super Ghouls N Ghosts, which Capcom announced would be brought to XBL/PSN a year or two ago?

Anyhow, as -- I think -- the only person who was a gamer when SF2 came out that wasn't nuts over it, I might not buy it, but my gf thinks it's one of the greatest games of all time which means I'll probably end up forced into it, lol. Anyway, it'll be a nice replacement for the dreadful Tekken downloadable game on PSN I've got now.

Why wouldn't Sony update on Thanksgiving? As a holiday that has everyone staying home, that sounds like a perfect time to release a load of games, updates, movies, etc. What better time is there to catch people staying home playing video games than the holidays? Besides summer vacation, I mean.

Time to invest in a fighting stick.

The 360 pad is rubbish for fighters. HEll I dont even like the ps3 pad for the traditional fighting games. (its fine with tekken and such of course)

As a Street Fighter fan and a 360 owner I am frustrated there is still no useful control pad for this (like the 15th Annerversary pad). I can't be excited for this game. I don't want an arcade stick (don't know if I will like it).

I got Hyper SF2 from XBLA and playing it with the 360 controller is like banging your head against the wall.

27th November release in the US eh? Lets see, given the amount of time it took Puzzle Fighter HD to come out in the EU after the US release, i'd say SSFHDRemix is due for a Q2 2009 release in the EU.

got my x-arcade stick ready even though I have the PS3 version, Street Fighter is just one of those fighting games where I need a stick because I dont like my fierce punch and kick on the top and the numerous double quarter circles and half circles.

Yeah, I just did the one 360 d-pad mod where you place a small disc of soft plastic behind the d-pad. Turns out all M$ has to do to make the 360 d-pad work is to place a piece of plastic under the d-pad... so sad they're too cheap to even do that.
