Report: Brash slapped with lawsuits

Zootfly and 7 Studios seeking unpaid wages in excess of $1 million from shuttered film-to-game publishing house.

Last Friday marked the definitive conclusion of Brash Entertainment's meteoric rise and fall within the game industry. The film-to-game migration publishing house, which was cofounded by Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull, made its debut in March 2007 and went on to raise $400 million in initial funding by June. However, Brash soon proved to be less than capable in financing games, backing such critical bombs as Alvin and the Chimpmunks, Jumper: Griffin's Story, and Space Chimps.

With the studio having officially shut its doors, the lawsuits have now begun to pour in. Variety reports today that Slovenian developer Zootfly and LA-based 7 Studios have filed suit against Brash Entertainment over unpaid compensation.

According to the report, Zootfly is seeking $748,000 for work Brash contracted on the game adaptation of Fox's television drama Prison Break. 7 Studios is attempting to secure compensation for two titles: $468,000 for work completed on 9, a game based on the Focus Features animated film produced by Tim Burton, and $113,000 for Six Flags Fun Park, a minigame compilation for the Wii and Nintendo DS.

Neither Zootfly nor 7 Studios had responded to GameSpot's requests for comment as of press time.

    If the gays are ti do this,they must must do it very good,because the movie is
    incredible,so should be the game.... if it is made....

    A Prison Break game could have so much potential. Think of what you can do with it. You can actually mix together 2 of the best games in it. Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto. I didn't like GTA though. Anyway, Prison Break has a lot of sneaking around in it (MGS), and they also have places to go to complete tasks (GTA). You can play as different characters(Michael, Lincoln, Sucre and T-Bag) and different characters can do different things. Like Michael and Sucre can do CQC, and Lincoln and T-Bag can have weapons. Something like that. I just think, with the right people working on this, and if they use their heads correctly, they can make something good out of this.

    robfield, it doesn't matter if the games sound bad. Game design is still a series of jobs. People need to get paid, and if Brash isn't paying for making people work then that isn't very legal.

    Stop making aweful games that rely on box office sales (instead of quality gameplay) and you won't have any problems staying in business.

    Sucks for them. How were they supposed to know that Brash was just a money laundering front. I hope they get ever penny they are asking for.

    What did they expect? The games they made were terrible and were based on terrible licenses.
    They proved that licensed games can't just be churned out anymore without any effort being put into them. What a stupid thing to base your company on.

    Here's an idea, stop making awful movie to game adaptations and aim for something original, or at the very least something not restricted to scenes from a movie that couldn't possibly be successful in the gaming world.

    Flameducky just reminded me that now Saw: The Videogame is in jeopardy. One of the few I would have even considered glancing at. Oh well, Brash probably wouldn't have been able to pull it off anyway. Hopefully it's picked up by a more competent company.
