Gears of War 2 arrives in stores today, and what better way to get swept up in the tide of launch hype than to drop an unreasonable amount of money on a merchandising tie-in? For gamers with heavy wallets and disconcertingly normal home décor, TriForce Sales today announced that it has completed work on a solution just for them.

The Gears of War Locust Drone bust is a life-size design maquette of the game's gruesome alien shock troopers. The drone maquette is sure to brighten any home by forever watching inhabitants with sunken, beady yellow eyes, while the receding gum line and lack of proper lips showcase poor dental hygiene sure to prove an interesting conversation starter among guests.

To ensure every detail from the porcine nose to the sickly pale skin was loving rendered with painstaking accuracy, TriForce enlisted Epic Games art director Chris Perna to sculpt the bust, whereas special-effects creator Jordu Schell handled the painting. The 1:1 scale maquette stands 19" tall and weighs a whopping 15 pounds. The $549.99 price of the piece is equally whopping, and deranged Martha Stewart types should begin receiving them in the first quarter of 2009.

Those looking for more replica schwag from the game might be interested in TriForce's replica Lancer Assault Rifle from the game. Not to be confused with the NECA Lancer replica included in Amazon.com's Gears of War 2 bundle, the TriForce rifle weighs 15 pounds and clocks in at a hefty $949.99.

Even if I had this kind of money to spend on something this pointless, there are a ton of other pointless items that I would spend the money on before this.

they should make a wretch.. It could be like a creepy teddy bear or something and you could sleep hugging the thing or give to your girlfriend (if you need a getaway strategy)!!

It looks like they're high quality resin models which is why they're so expensive. For a comparison of prices with other resin models check out http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/ (note that the forgeworld models come unpainted, and they're in pounds not dollars).

  • Jonnyd108

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 10:11 pm PT

They're expensive cuz they are probably not mass produced. Less quantity = more expensive to make

what's point of this? Showing off!? This is unwise!!

  • Skindofthedred

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 8:38 pm PT

Make a 1:1 scale of the enitre thing. and charge the same price. then i bet it would sell.
Or even better, make it a costume.
I also like the idea of hollowing out the head so you can wear just the mask and run around naked with it on =)

WTF! Why would they price these things at such high prices. It doesn't make much sense.

    @DataDream:

"What??? A 1:1 scale "Life Size Replica" - is... only 19" tall???"

The sculpture is the bust of the Locust drone, not the entire body. It's 1:1 scale.

    Skorge looked like a tranny

  • fooltoast

only cool if you can hollow it out, and wear it while running nude through the streets

  • aduttyfoot

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 3:30 pm PT

on amazon there are a bunch of people who bought the lancer assault rifle for the whopping 139 dollars and are now complaining because they have to use a paperclip to put in between the battery so the darn thing will work. not sure why you would waste 139 dollars on something like that, or even 549dollars on this bust.

  • stevo_360

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 11:42 am PT

I sort of want to buy that.

I absolutely can't stand the news article titles Gamespot chooses. They should just cut out the ridiculous puns and tell us what the article is actually about before we click it to see what the hell they're referring to.

  • xTheExploited

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 8:22 am PT

@DataDream its just the head, which would be pretty big. if it where the whole body it would cost a few thousand.

  • otanikun

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 7:37 am PT

That would make a great halloween decoration but only and idiot is going to buy something that costs an ungodly amount of money; sure nobody needs alot of things but this?
Purely for fans only and like it says, "Heavy wallets"
That goes for both items for sale, nearly 1G for a replica rifle?, unthinkable.

  • Fergy33WF

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 7:32 am PT

@DataDream - If you go to the product page of the website it looks like it is a replica of just the head so 19" would seem right. I'd imagine that an entire body would cost a small fortune to produce/buy!

  • DataDream

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 7:20 am PT

What??? A 1:1 scale "Life Size Replica" - is...

    only 19" tall???

LMAO - um yeah the Locust just got allot less formidable to me. I mean now I think Fenix needs a curb stomp ability like in DeadSpace cuz that's pretty much all he has to do is step on these guys.

Maybe that's a typo and it's supposed to be 79" which would be over 6'?
