Although much of the buzz around Harmonix for the last week has been centered on the just-announced Beatles game, the company hasn't forgotten its other big project.
Harmonix announced today the latest addition to its selection of downloadable albums: The Colour and the Shape, the Foo Fighters' hit 1997 effort featuring singles such as "Monkey Wrench" and "My Hero." As with some previously released Rock Band albums, one of the songs on The Colour and the Shape ("Everlong") is already available on the Rock Band 2 disc, and so won't be included in the download.
The 12 remaining tracks from The Colour and the Shape will sell on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $19.99 (1,600 Microsoft points). Individual songs will be available separately for $1.99 (160 Microsoft points). As is tradition, the songs and album will be released next Tuesday on the Xbox 360, whereas PS3 owners will need to wait for Sony's weekly content update on Thursday.
The album was one of six big downloads revealed in August, along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Megadeth's Peace Sells...But Who's Buying. Those albums have already been released, but Harmonix has confirmed a few more in the pipe, including Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood. A No Doubt "Best Of"compilation is also slated to join the album-length track packs.
Today also marked the belated release of Harmonix's 20 free downloadable songs for purchasers of Rock Band 2. Users who registered their copies of the game with Harmonix should be receiving codes in their e-mail accounts beginning today that will let them download the previously announced slate of songs.
The full tracklist of The Colour and the Shape follows:
Doll
Monkey Wrench
Hey, Johnny Park!
My Poor Brain
Wind Up
Up in Arms
My Hero
See You
Enough Space
Everlong (included on Rock Band 2 disc, not available for download)
