Although much of the buzz around Harmonix for the last week has been centered on the just-announced Beatles game, the company hasn't forgotten its other big project.

Harmonix announced today the latest addition to its selection of downloadable albums: The Colour and the Shape, the Foo Fighters' hit 1997 effort featuring singles such as "Monkey Wrench" and "My Hero." As with some previously released Rock Band albums, one of the songs on The Colour and the Shape ("Everlong") is already available on the Rock Band 2 disc, and so won't be included in the download.

The 12 remaining tracks from The Colour and the Shape will sell on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $19.99 (1,600 Microsoft points). Individual songs will be available separately for $1.99 (160 Microsoft points). As is tradition, the songs and album will be released next Tuesday on the Xbox 360, whereas PS3 owners will need to wait for Sony's weekly content update on Thursday.

The album was one of six big downloads revealed in August, along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Megadeth's Peace Sells...But Who's Buying. Those albums have already been released, but Harmonix has confirmed a few more in the pipe, including Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood. A No Doubt "Best Of"compilation is also slated to join the album-length track packs.

Today also marked the belated release of Harmonix's 20 free downloadable songs for purchasers of Rock Band 2. Users who registered their copies of the game with Harmonix should be receiving codes in their e-mail accounts beginning today that will let them download the previously announced slate of songs.

The full tracklist of The Colour and the Shape follows:

Doll
Monkey Wrench
Hey, Johnny Park!
My Poor Brain
Wind Up
Up in Arms
My Hero
See You
Enough Space
Everlong (included on Rock Band 2 disc, not available for download)
Walking After You
New Way Home

steamo: As much as I would love to see some DFA in these games, it's not going to happen for the same reason you won't see the White Stripes: They're both missing an instrument. Death from Above doesn't have a guitar player and the Stripes don't have a bass player. It's really a shame, though.

"I'm probably just gonna get monkey wrench and I think it was a terrible idea for them to make a beagles rockband"

Yeah, totally! Dogs can't even play Rock Band!

Now that the new 20 song DLC is out, I'm wondering how many of you are complaining about not knowing any of the bands?
At least half of the songs are mint.

Oh, also, "Precious & Grace" by ZZ Top should be available to play. The world is not fair or just.

Hey, you know what would be some good bands for RB to add?

    Boris
    Kyuss
    TV on the Radio
Monster Magnet (Seriously, where is my "Space Lord"?)
    Iggy & the Stooges
    The Black Keys
    The Black Lips
    Black Mountain
    Death From Above 1979
    The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
    The Constantines
    Tom Motherf*&%in' Petty
    Eagles of Death Metal
    54-40
    Prince
    Paul Simon
    Weeeeeeeeen.

Also, some Yes and ELO could be hilarious.

"If you want to play a rythym game for difficulty, GH is probably better" i just beat gh:wt the other night, i havne't been able to beat all the songs in rockband. honestly i found gh:wt the easiest guitar game i've played yet. even the dream theater song they chose doesn't compare to the difficulty of the one in rb2, i dont think i will ever beat rb2

  • iamBenG

    Posted Nov 9, 2008 8:18 am PT

I think it's kind of odd saying RB2 is trying to beat GH:WT, because RB is a more accessible game. If you want to play a rythym game for difficulty, GH is probably better, but if you want an accessible, diverse, and great party game, RB2 can't be beaten. The main reason I think RB2 is so much better is the diversity of the music, there's rock, there's classic rock, indie, etc. etc., and when you look at Guitar Hero, there's 4/5 classic rock/metal.

The downloads with rockband are consistent and it allows you to really shape your own track list.

Rock Band 2 doesn't have to beat Guitar Hero: World Tour; it's been better before it's release. XD

Candidate for best album of the 90's, along with Nevermind (which I don't really like) and Blood Sex Sugar Magik.

I think that rock band needs more metal music. Its targetting big names in the rock world, but many buyers of rock band listen to more metal than rock, and so their tastes are not as well catered for. Ideally, i would like to see rock band take over the rockj side of music, and guitar hero take over the metal side, giving buyers a distinct choice... probably never gnna happen tho =/

that's all well n good but we need more DREAM THEATER

    ---------
I'm with you on the Dream Theater comment.
I'd love to have more songs from these artists: Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Interpol, Hopesfall, Incubus, The Killers, Emery, Lostprophets, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and Metallica.

    They're all instant-buys for me.

I agree. We need more Dream Theater songs. And I don't know if I'm alone here, but I think AFI's Sing the Sorrow would be a perfect fit for a full album download.

So in short, if there are 10 songs on there you want, buy the album and get two free songs that you will never play or just pick and choose the ones you care about.

I'm once again going to save some money and only pick up the ones that I want to play, which is less than 10.

Great album. Honestly too bad it wasn't the self titled album that came before it, it was probably more fun, but this album is great. Maybe the Jane's Addiction and No Doubt albums can come out soon, and we can all lobby for some Mr. Bungle or Faith No More, or some old Helmet albums or something. Late 80s - Mid 90s music FTW.

Almost enough to make me wish I had Rockband. Had it been There is Nothing Left to Lose, I would have ran to the stores and bought it! This is my second faviourite Foo Fighters album though. I would LOVE to play "New Way Home", great track.

This is still my favorite Foo album. But I too think that $20 is too high. We already have "Everlong" from RB2... and "Doll" should be a freebie since it's missing a pair of instruments.

Obviously you don't know how important of an album this is not only to the foo fighters collection, but to rock in general. Same with RHCP. In Your honor pales in comparison. Yes they could pick the most poppy, radio accepted tracks. Personally, I'd rather have access to important music over mass media appeal.

    ---------
I do understand that the albums they've chosen to add have made an important impact in the music world as well as in both band's careers, but you must admit that they lack difficult songs to play.

For example, in the Blood Sugar Sex Magik album, there's only one song that proves to be challenging and hard ("They're Red Hot", followed by two others that are only challenging when you play the drums ("My Lovely Man" and "The Greeting Song"). Put it this way, the song might be AWESOME, like RHCP's "Under The Bridge"( Band 0/ Guitar 1/ Drums 0/ Vocals 3/ Bass 0), but if it has very low tiers in Rock Band, why pay 2 bucks for it?

I respect your opinion on getting important tracks into Rock Band, but mine isn't getting mass-media-appealing songs either; I prefer challenging-to-play songs over anything else.

This band, Foo Fighters, have some great CDs, but just like they did with Red Hot Chili Peppers, choosing Blood Sugar Sex Magik album, this track pack has too many weak/easy songs. It's not worth it.

It would've been better Red Hot Chili Peppers's "Californication" or "Stadium Arcadium", or Foo Fighters's "In Your Honor".

Kurt Cobain does a spin in his grave every time someone buys a Foo Fighters album. Dave Grohl is a huge sellout.
