WarioWare pokes DS, DSi

Nintendo reveals create-your-own-minigame installment in antimascot franchise, as well as downloadable spin-off designed for upcoming camera-equipped portable.

Nintendo followed up on yesterday's financial report with an operational briefing from president Satoru Iwata recapping the company's performance and offering a peek at some upcoming games, including the first downloadable titles specifically created for the recently revealed DSi system.

Iwata revealed that Nintendo is prepping a slate of WarioWare titles for release as downloadable DSiWare games. A variety of minigames from the Game Boy Advance and DS installments of WarioWare will be sold as DSiWare titles, and some original games making use of the system's camera functionality will be packaged together as WarioWare: Photograph.

Iwata said that for WarioWare: Photograph, players will place the DSi on a table and then step back so their silhouette appears onscreen (thanks to the camera implanted in the system's hinges). Simply moving their bodies will allow players to complete simple activities. One nose-picking minigame shown called for players to line up their extended fingers with a pair of floating nostrils. WarioWare: Photograph is scheduled for release in late December, around the time the DSiWare store goes live.

For WarioWare fans with legacy DS hardware, Iwata announced WarioWare Myself. The standard DS game will let players create their own minigames for the series and then share them with other players. Nintendo is also working on a WiiWare counterpart version of the game that will let players try out the created games on their home consoles, but it will lack the minigame creation tool.

WarioWare games weren't the only new products Iwata talked about. In addition to a series of six DSiWare ArtStyle puzzle games, Nintendo is contemplating releasing downloadable utilities for the system, like a clock and a calculator featuring the publisher's popular characters, or public transit route maps.

well the stages you build will probably be saved on the sd-card or on the storage (duh) so you will be able to put it on your sd-card anyway (or atleast thats what i wish for) than you could go to your pc and upload there to some site or if the data of the stages isnt that big than you could actually send your data via msn or icq or other messengers to someone else...

well that is just a thought but it would be cool if that worked, oh and... Nintendo RULES XD

Wario Wear but, I was hoping to use the Wifi and camera for Re4 style communications. The regular screen can show a picture of you and, the touch screen can show a picture of the person your linked to and, you can use the touch screen to hi-light things on the other person like a Re4 game cover.

I dont know why my friends would hold up a Re4 game cover while talking to me. I like Re4 and I think it would be cool if I could have conversations the same way Leon dose on his waki-taki using a portable electronic devise like a DS or, DSi.

intresting idea. but i don't think the options will be big enough to bring on any new players to the mario\wario games. it seems like developers are getting little big planet syndrome. everyone wants to tack on some kind of editor mode now.

following "ChiagoTypwriter" don't say a DSi is awesome before you play it either. the DS has something for everyone but we'll have to wait and see for the DSi. a nintendo console was also awesome before it only had like 5 amazing games

I usually don't waste my time with comments, however anyone who says they won't buy a DSi is either lying or not a gamer. Last I checked the DS got a lot of smack talk before anyone played it and now it's the #1 handheld. Same thing is going to happen here, everyone who has been a gamer knows that no on can beat Nintendo in the Handheld race. So just play a DSi before you say how lame it is. Also WarioWare is an awsome party game and it's so simple it is perfect that it would be Nintendo's first make your own game title. I mean most the time you just have to hit A before time runs out.

There's a lot of talk about hardcore gamers being neglected by Nintendo, but I'd say in today's climate, the hardcore gamer is a minority - albeit a vocal one. Casual gamers greatly outnumber the hardcore, so it makes sense for Nintendo - and probably other manufacturers and developers - to cater to them right now.

LoL I love noticing the fact that anyone who doesn't like this gets negative votes for stating opinions. But I srsly don't know what we really need with a camera on a ds and then in turn takes out the gba slot. I'm not complaining about having to use your own creativity in making your own games b/c that's the step technology is taking ~ even tho it's years behind considering photoshop junkies and what not. But it almost seems like it's cut in half here. 50% doesn't want games to move that way, and the other thinks it's a great idea. Or maybe Nintendo is wanting to bank in on what LBP is doing, just like how Sony wants to bank in on the Nintendo's popular WiiMote. Who knows where this will go. I'm just gonna sit out on this.

A nose picking video game... now why didn't Sony think of that (with their eye toy)?

What's with all the negativity and the "waaah, they're not catering for the true gamer". If you're a hardcore gamer then try something else - clearly you haven't even read the first paragraph of this article.

I cannot wait for the DSi, I'll be getting one as soon as possible. I like the idea of being able to make your own minigames as I'm a big fan of WarioWare and I'd like to improve my creativity.

Yeah, I'd like a GAME please? I'm always rooting for Nintendo I personally don't care about these kind of first party games being released. What really makes me sick is that they cater too much to the casual audience, we are now left with the 'Play on Wii' series.

    I'll be playing my SNES.

I know when I traveling or commuting there is always a spare level table just sitting around so I can set my DSi on it, oh and a white sheet behind my chair so the camera doesn't get confused.

I love how Ninty are creating new markets for themselves and catering to customers who previously would have overlooked games, but they are forgetting their hardcore crowd by concentrating so hard on this.... please Nintendo - more decent 1st party titles! The Wii is excellent but will only continue to be so with more great games... mines starting to gather cobwebs at the moment! PS3 is easily getting the most attention from me at the moment, followed closely by both my 360 and PSP...

Most of the games I've bought recently are for 360... the new 1st party Wii games are just way too damn casual for me I couldn't care less about those wii fit and wii music games, I never liked wii sports either.

They say 09 will be better year for someone like me so hopefully we'll get to see a new Metroid and Pikmin for Wii or even some cool new 1st party franchise or two.

Not complaining to see yet another Wario Ware game though. I'm not planning to get a DSi anytime soon If this is anything like the previous titles I can say that this game would be worth a purchase.

If the Mini Game Maker is anything like the Brawl Stage Builder, then it'll be mediocre. It's okay, but it can be better. This is still good news at least. I'm still going to get the DSi.

It's great to see that Nintendo has been focusing their attention on milking a minigame franchise. I seriously don't know how long Nintendo is going to stay relevent to the true gamer when this is the best they have to offer.

I'd love to see some of this camera functionality coupled with the wii, like playing a wii game, with the DSi connected via wifi. Hmm, on that note, I'd love to see some more gameplay elements with one person playing the DSi and one person playing the wii playing together on the same game.

the new ds sounds like its a buy but i have problems with it that are kind of a big deal to me.i am going to have to play my ds lite just to play my gba games because i here the gba slot is going to be a sd card slot.the should have placed that sd slot somewhere else so i can play gba games on the new ds and the could have possibly kept the gba slot and let everyone play the gameboy/colr again on the same slot on the dsi.aone more thing since the new ds is going to have exclusives that the other ds's can't play they should have added two extra buttons so it can have almost the same exact buttons as n64 except it will be missing the z button but that is what touch screen is for.

Not bad, not bad. I'm interested to see how extensive this minigame creation will be. I'm sure the manual of the game will involve Wario blathering about how he's making money and he doesn't even have to make the games, bwa ha ha! Predictable yet fantastic stuff.
