EA teases Dead Space sequel

Redwood Shores GM confirms new installment in deep-space survival shooter under construction; Army of Two, Battlefield: Bad Company follow-ups also hinted.

It would be a misnomer to say that the many new properties Electronic Arts is delivering this year indicate the publisher's days of annualized sequelization are behind it. After all, EA has made it abundantly clear that it plans to extend many, if not all, of these new franchises into future titles.

One such example is Dead Space, EA's all-new sci-fi horror shooter which debuted to rave reviews last week. In an effort to cross-promote the franchise, EA has signed respective deals with Starz Media and Image Comics to create an animated film and graphic novel to flesh out the franchise's storyline.

Now, the publisher has also made it clear that the franchise will see at least one more gaming installment as well. Speaking with Variety, EA Redwood Shores studio general manager Glenn Schofield confirmed that a Dead Space sequel is already under construction. Far from an official announcement, though, Variety notes that the follow-up is predicated upon the successful performance of its predecessor.

Variety also discussed future sequelization plans with EA Games label president Frank Gibeau. As part of that conversation, Gibeau revealed that both Army of Two and Battlefield: Bad Company have a "sequel idea planned." Army of Two landed to avid consumer interest despite a tepid critical response in March, while Battlefield: Bad Company brought EA DICE's massive-battlefield shooter to consoles with respectable success in June. EA also confirmed last week that Army of Two will be the latest publisher-owned property to head to Hollywood.

GhostfaceL94, if you want the same experience as the first dead space, why don't you play the first dead space? correct me if i am wrong, but i think you are saying that you want to be just as immersed and drawn in like the first. My ideas for the second dead space would contain more ships that have the same problem or going to the center of the planet the Ishimura was orbiting around.

yeah this is great dead space was actually first horror genre game to actually make me somewhat scared to progress into rooms and move near vents lol excited for a sequel maybe add some co-op play too lol cause people tend to be easier to scare when in groups and added with trying to survive with a friend makes it all more enjoyable with the plot and characters although i was dissappointed played game through and never once met a seeker D:

For Christmas I got an Xbox 360, with Dead Space and some other games. The commercials looked cool, and the reviews were great. Ever since I got Dead Space I coulden't stop playing. Its a great game!!!!! I already beat it, and I cant wait for number 2. Hopfully its just as good or better.

It seems kind of ironic that everyone is pumped for a Dead Space sequel, while not overly interested in an Army of Two 2. The trouble being that Dead Space was such a great game that EA has to be extremely careful not to screw up the follow up... while Army of Two was such a disappointment, its sequel has almost no where to go but up.

Dead Space has amazing graphics, some cool weapons, and a great storyline. It is by far one of the best games I have played this year and hopefully the second one will be even better. If you don't want to buy the game then I recomend at least renting it, beleive me it's worth it

Keatman, I am not usually much of a horror-genre gamer, but Dead Space is WELL worth enduring the nervousness it brings...it is one of the best games I have ever played when you look at the entire package. Finish it! You can do eet!

PS - Lowering volume helps, I feel like Dead Space sports louder-than-usual volume for scare effect...

i want deadspace and bfbc and i have army of 2, and yes the storyline is bland and predictable but the co-op gameplay on the hardest skill is F**k**g brilliant, the most tactical shooter since ghost recon

Why make Sequels??? They just endanger the reputation of the predecessor... most of the time. Some can be good but there has been so many examples why there shouldn't be sequels.
I remember Spielberg saying once, ''People ask me when i'm going to make E.T 2, i said that the first film is so good that i don't want to endanger it's legacy and ruin it''. Kinda ironic considering what he did to Indiana Jones but the point is clear!

Why are they making an Army of Two sequel. Dead Space 2 is going to rock and Bad Company 2 would be awesome if they changed around some of the gameplay.

This is the most over-rated over-hyped game ive played in a long time. Very repetitive, and sometimes downright tedious.

EA plz take time with Dead Space 2. First one was awesome cant believe you guys made this. Dont turn the sequel into another yearly release that you guys did with FIFA and Nfs.

  • AnthraxAngel

    Posted Oct 29, 2008 4:21 am PT

Its obvious that because of the huge success of Dead Space... the sequel is going to be really hyped. If its anything like the first installment when its released... then EA does not have a thing to worry about. Excellent game

Deader Space. But honestly, I think the best thing they can do with the franchise is offer a multi-player element. One player controls Isaac, while another controls that crazy regenerating abomination that simply cannot be killed be normal dismembering. Would be a lot of fun to have to hunt the hero down, and vice versa.

Since when do sequels have to be announced RIGHT after releasing the latest game? Whatever happened to the suspense of waiting a year or two to see if a sequel would happen? I actually kinda miss those days of uncertainty and excitement.

After reading some of the comments since my first post I have an idea for Dead Space 2. (Possible Spoilers for those that have not finished Dead Space yet) Those of us that followed the No Known Survivors website we saw that Agent Becker from "TUB Dwellers" contacted Chan to report on the Ishi being in the Aegis cluster and that the distress beacon would reach earth in 13 minutes. With Mr. Clark catching up with the long lost Nicole maybe some military ship or ships will shockpoint in and fish the shuttle out of the water much like the Valor did with the escape pod. It would be awesome to see co-op have both online and offline ability, possibly two characters split up on a ship working towards the middle then linking up. I could see a ship being torn up by the debris from Aegis 7 upon entry.

That's nice, although i'm hoping they don't start milking the series. It'd be nice to see another Bad Company, the first ones multiplayer is very enjoyable, although i'd like to see the simple option of prone being added, atleast for the snipers.
