Guitar Hero dev confirms DJ Hero

World Tour project director flatly states scratch-ready rhythm game in the works.

In February, then-independent Activision filed an application to trademark DJ Hero. While significant, the application in and of itself was merely a sign of possibility, not a signal of intent, as has been seen with other unacted-upon trademark filings for rhythm games, such as Guitar Villain and Drum Villain.

Today, that possibility became a near certainty. In an interview with gaming blog Joystiq, Guitar Hero World Tour project director Brian Bright revealed that Activision Blizzard is indeed working on a music rhythm game dedicated to the club scene.

"Activision's doing a DJ Hero game, and I can't comment on what we're doing," he casually revealed in response to a question about what's next for Neversoft after World Tour. "But...we're working on the future and next gen. If I wasn't excited about it, I wouldn't be there."

Bright's statement comes as the first official confirmation for the game, though speculation and leaks have already revealed a number of unverified details. In September, alleged tipsters told Kotaku that the game was expected to arrive next summer and will integrate both a turntable-style controller and Guitar Hero guitars. The controller, which sources claimed was on its sixth iteration, reportedly includes a scratch platter, three buttons for sampling, a cross fader, and a sound-effects dial.

As per Kotaku's sources, the game is in development at B-Boy studio FreeStyleGames, which Activision Blizzard bought outright in September. At that time, the publisher said that FreeStyle was at work on localized downloadable content for Guitar Hero as well as a new intellectual property in the rhythm genre.

I don't think everyone should be so quick to judge this idea. Guitar Hero, in essence, was an extension of Bemani's Guitar Freaks, and look what they did with the series. Now imagine them taking Beatmania-esque title and introducing it to a much broader audience.

lmfao I love how all the comments are on the music style, not the crappy idea. The hero series is being squeezed for all its worth already. This does prove that ActiBliz is now equally as creative as EA though (sad, but true). Oh well maybe a third game maker will overtake those two monstrosities. BTW how the heck do you design a music game for next gen? Make a holographic band to play with you? Improve the graphics (aka a few scrolling buttons)? idiots...you could play GH (as a concept, not the current ones) on an old 8 bit with the right controller/graphics

I don't know why people are mocking the release of DJ hero, HEY PEOPLE!!! there are who loves Rock and other don't, I listen to Rock but not as listening to Trance and House music, I love the Dance scene and if the upcoming game includes House music hip-hop and rhythm music, I'll be glad to grab one.

Not DJ Hero that sounds rubbish.
Something like King of the Clubs.

Wow it's unbelievable how many ignorant people commented on this... for one, I love RHYTHM games in general, I have played DDR and other rhythm games for years and well, even though this idea is a rip-off of beatmania from the arcades of Japan (and I'm sure somewhere around here?) I'm glad that they are releasing this, DJing is a very hard thing to do AND be good at. And to whoever said a DJ just puts a record on and plays it, how do you comment on this topic if you have no idea at all what a Disc Jockey actually is...?

If this game is loaded with old-school rap and hip-hop or even an expansion for it a la GH: Aerosmith/Metallica, I'll be all over it. The more modern mainstream stuff they release really sucks.

and then we'll have ORCHESTRA HERO!! ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, get ready to play with flutes, saxophones, oboes, clarinets, trumpets and the like! oh and lets not forget about the wonderful.. COW BELL AND TRIANGLE!!! guitar hero was fine the way it is..the whole series of the hero's will just turn into another mario catastrophe ...first platform mario, mario kart, then tennis, soccer, ddr, baseball....

the mighty will always fall to try to achieve money even at the lowest point =S

    Magnificent point there Gotu.

    @Rest of you whiners
You all should just shut up and leave them to their business. Heaps of different people love different types of music and I can tell you that many people would love this game. Most of you guys are intermediate to hardcore gamers so why not try and revolutionize gaming to those who find hardcore games hard? This is really a pick-up, have a few goes to get the hang of it, and play songs which sound good. You also have a good time playing it.

    LAMESAUCE

I have no idea how they will tack on any kind of points system or challenge to this, seeing has how the nature of DJ-ing is creativity. I can't imagine any form of this game not being a major flop.

While we're at it, let's go ahead and tack on Spoon Hero, with an extenzive 1 track playlist featuring Soundgarden's "Spoonman".

Perhaps we'll all get a chance to beat on Rainstick Hero once it's announced.

Anyone remember Mixman Studio with the DM2 controller? I have one sitting in my room. It has two platters with eight sample buttons each, crossfader, joystick, etc. You load up samples and controlled them with the DM2 so that you could mix it up on the fly.

I'm imagining something similar to that, although the controller sounds like it has even less features than the DM2 so I imagine it'll be a lot more limiting.

You can buy the DM2 for $20 or less; they were originally $200.

A DJ only chooses music they don't actually play it.

i think your all missing the point. who cares if they make all those different heroes. seriously theyre just trying to promote different types of rhythm games. some people dont want to play an actual instrument that it would take years to learn how to play it well, these games are meant for partiers or people who cant actually pick up an instrument and play it but in these rhythm games they can pretend and have fun. theres nothing like getting drunk with a buncha people playing rhythm games like **** can u do that with real instruments? probably...but not as likely im just saying stop ur hating and suppport them trying to revolutionize different types of gaming
