Street Fighter IV confirmed for consoles this winter

Capcom confirms that its hard-fighting sequel is coming this winter, 'on track' for near-simultaneous EU and US releases.

When details of Street Fighter IV first emerged late in 2007, Capcom quickly warned that the game was "more than a year away" from being ready for home consoles. When it hit Japanese arcades midway through 2008, there was still no firm news on the release, save rumours that it wouldn't be out until the end of 2009.

In August the producer of the upcoming Street Fighter movie The Legend of Chun Li let slip that SFIV's release would coincide with his movie, but this was never officially confirmed by Capcom. Talking to GameSpot today, Capcom still didn't confirm the movie date tie-in but did say that the game was "definitely" coming this winter and that Europe could expect to see the much-anticipated game "at roughly the same time as the US."

Street Fighter IV is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and all the features from the arcades--including the new unlockable outfits--will be coming to consoles, according to a Capcom representative at TGS earlier this month. As well as the arcade roster, the versions for consoles include Sakura, Dan, Fei Long, and Cammy. Capcom has also said that the new nonplayable boss characters from the arcade will make the transition to consoles as playable characters. One of these, Akuma/Gouki, was playable on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the Tokyo Game Show, and you can read GameSpot's impressions of that here, along with more information about Sakura

The game will be making a rare playable appearance in the UK during the London Games Festival at the Eurogamer Expo next week and will feature 2D fighting with a 3D art style, going back to the series' roots after a number of abortive attempts to move it into full 3D. It will also be playable at the MCM Expo at ExCel in London this weekend.

GameSpot will also bring you more on the console versions of Street Fighter IV as the release nears and all the new characters are revealed.

I really don't understand why Gamespot keeps having a "Street Fighter IV PC Version" entry when this information hasn't been confirmed anywhere else, as you guys read on this very article, it says "Street Fighter IV is coming to the PlayStation 3 AND Xbox 360" .. Where's the PC Version then? I'd really love it if this game would come out for PC but I don't want Gamespot to play with us.. So what's the truth here? I also checked CAPCOM's website and can't see the "PC DVD" logo anywhere.. GS please don't give us false hopes.

looks great, and capcom seems to be doing everything right with there best franchises lately, like RE5, MegaMan 9, Bionic commando rearmed, and of coarse street fighter. The coming year should be pretty good for them.

Is this date valid for PC as well?? I hope it is!! Devil May Cry 4 was and is a FANTASTIC game on the PC. I hope they make it so with SF 4 as well.

That's why Nintendo is coming out with Wii 2, although Nintendo is first place in console sales they're missing out on lots of nexgen games.

    Posted Oct 23, 2008 8:14 pm PT

the wii version would have to be severely downgraded... not that there is anything wrong with that, but capcom has issues with progress... it took them many many years to learn to count.. do you really want them to regress now?

  • doubledareus

    Posted Oct 23, 2008 8:05 pm PT

I'm sorry! Is the Wii not considered a console? I don't see how Capcom can't tweak it so that we can play it on the Wii! Resident Evil 4 was awesome on the Gamecube and perfected on the Wii! Okami did ok on PS2 and fantastic on the Wii! So why shaft us on Street Fighter 4? Damn you Capcom!

Hmm, a thought occurs. They revealed Sakura at TGS, in Japan. Now we have the London game expo coming up- maybe a look at Cammy?

Probably will buy this for the PS3 since I use the 360 for most of the FPS because the controller feels comfortable to use for those while the PS3 lacks that feel, but has the perfect feel for platforming and fighting games.

Sorry to be Mr. Scrooge, but I bet it will be delayed. Probably because they'll try their best to have a good on-line experience, but will ultimately fail.

yeah, i'm surprised Chun Li is on the cover, but it makes sense if it really is supposed to coincide with that dude's movie. But seriously Wut, are you really not even going to play it due to a COVER? I hope you're joking.

Anyway, good news. Game is coming much earlier than I thought it would. This and Killzone make February a good month...provided Killzone doesn't flop again.

still in release window of chun li movie (out feb.)

this is more of a confirmation of what I was expecting the release to be anyways. A bit close to RE5's release though so this may end up pushed back to April or something - we'll see.
