MK vs. DC Universe enters ring Nov. 16

Midway's first all-new Mortal Kombat installment on the Xbox 360 and PS3 throws down against comic foes next month.

It has been a dubious proposition from the beginning. How can Midway make a new Mortal Kombat game that lacks the franchise's seemingly requisite guts, gore, and excruciating executions? Today, Midway revealed just when gamers will learn the answer to that question, saying that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on November 16, with the European release following on November 21.

The reason for the T for Teen rating, of course, stems from Midway's partnership with DC Comics. Despite that rating, creator Ed Boon assured GameSpot in an interview that Mortal Kombat's first all-new appearance on the 360 and PS3 would retain the franchise's signature brand of hyperviolent fighting.

In all, MK vs. DC Universe will include 22 fighters, 11 from each brand. To complement Midway's lineup of bloodied soldiers, such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden, DC will lend a number of its prize fighters, including Superman, Batman, and The Joker. And to help explain exactly how the MK and DC universes became intertwined, Midway has signed on comic scribes Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Grey to write the game's story.

I agree with ashalldredge. This game is confusing. I dont know whether i like the game or hate it. The gameplay looks good but the graphics to me sucked. Like the idea of the DC characters but hate the Teen Rating. Well anyway these things can be answered when the game comes out.

Gamespot hasn't shown much of this game, go to gamesradar and see the last vid with joker's 2nd fatality. It pretty much explains every new mode added in this game. I hate it when ppl jump to conclusions too fast.

I predict a 7.0 at best. I'll probably rent it. I bought the last 2 MK games and they get old after a week anyway.

I still cant make up my mind if I love or hate this game. I mean I had some doubts, especially with the fatalities but upon seeing the jokers fatality I feel better about that. Still I mean the idea that they are pairing Mortal Kombat with a freaking Comic book franchise really makes me feel that Mortal Kombat has jumped the shark. I mean I understand their dilemma, yall have done everything that can be done with it. from Sequels to Tie-ins to double dipping (mortal kombat 3 and ultimate mortal kombat 3). I was hopeful that they would go along with what they were gonna do after Armageddon and do a quasi-reboot on the franchise, bring in a whole new crop of mortal kombat characters. though I guess those plans are in hold till MK vc DC is out and they get some rest before starting the next real chapter in the mortal kombat series.

It doesn't hurt to try this game, I actually enjoyed Marvel vs Capcom on my Dreamcast. I still play it though lol I wish they would make a remake or another sequal of it with alot more characters! I also hope that this game have more than 22, maybe some secret fighters or something...

this is an innovation. to me, it will be better than MK:deadly alliance, deception and armageddon. but it can't be succeed as much as mk2 and umk3 not at all. we are gonna have more fun with mk vs. dc. it is obvious. so we'll love it

I guess some people are afraid of change. This should be a great fighting game for the next generation consoles. I have a feeling that a lot of thoughts are going to change once this game is released.

How else is the gaming world supposed to expand if new unique ideas are not considered?
How many people thought Marvel vs. Capcom was a dumb idea when they first heard it?
Open your minds and broaden your horizons nay sayers, today is a new day and in a world of me too's new ideas stand a better chance of being accepted than the same game with a new coat of paint on it.
Wake up and smell the fresh ideas.

    I approved this message.

On the good side, it will allow MK to be approved by parents for children who are fans of the game. On the really pointless and stupid side, it's not the traditional anymore and it's just wrong to see an MK game without Sub-Zero ripping the spine off.

Exactly what Lexxzilla said. Fatalities for MK and some of the DC Bad guys. The Heroes of DC will have Brutalities. Regardless if they're MK or DC guys, there will still be the MK style of fighting and it will be fun. Not sure if I'm ready to give up playing Ultimate MK3 on Xbox Live yet though LOL! This will probably be late December purchase for me, but I'm sure I'll be picking it up.

  • Lexxzilla

Do you people read previews? The game will have fatalities! Alot of you look so ignorant for posting rants about no fatalities in the game. Gamespot even has a video of a Joker fatality. Read first, play the game, and then make judgements.

Still wish we were looking at two separate games that could be connected somehow for online fighting or whatnot...

I would like to see a full roster of DCU and, like most, I would like to see MK stay truer to its past...

Great, now let's make Nintendo vs Microsoft vs Sony

No really, don't anyone think these games are kind of lame? Putting two universes together and FIGHT! Now that they have started, they're going to make a lot more of these games. And no, SSBB is not a game like this. It's all Nintendo (except Sonic and Snake)

i would be more excited about this game if 1) it were rated M, and 2) if having superman weaker than he should actually be made sense. bring us an MK that is strictly MK midway.

If the only thing that makes MK worthwhile is the palette of fatalities (lets face it, everything short of that will make a T rating) then MK is probably NOT worth anything at all. Sorry to say it, but if you're getting your gaming jollies from "Sim Spine Extraction" and not the combat gameplay, graphics or sound...... stop playing games.

Mortal Kombat was ONCE (a long time ago) a great Series... the king of the hill, but not anymore. Every MK game gets crappier then the one before it. The best MK game: MK2 Hands Down. The recent MK games should be anihilated, and i don't think that any DC character can make good this game. Maybe funny (funny like: "Oh look how silly a Sub-Zero vs Batman match looks") but not good.

Wow, talk about characters perfect match... even Dc character don't fit between them... come on, Superman vs The Joker??? that's a little dumb if you ask me, and now The joker vs Scorpion. Capcom did an amasing job injecting esteroids in SF crew to make the crossovers and everything match well. CD vs MK just seems like a Marvel vs Capcom wanabee... a crappy wanabee.

Actually you can perform Fatalities with all MK characters and Villians from DCU, Heroes from DCU however perform Brutalities, I compiled an article for all things MK Vs DCU including an interview with Hans Lo from MK. If you're interested in the game but not sure if it's right for you http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions/read_article.php?topic_id=26606480&union_id=16720
    check out my article.
