Limited editions are quickly becoming a standard feature for most top-tier game releases. So how is EA going to differentiate the special editions of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge from the glut of other limited releases hitting retail shelves in the coming months? By making one Ultra Limited and packing the other with enticing swag, of course.

Available only through EA's online store, the Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition takes its billing quite seriously, as the publisher claims only 1,000 of the boxes have been assembled. The package includes Starz Media's Dead Space: Downfall animated movie, a bonus-content DVD, a lithograph, a 97-page art book written and illustrated by the game's designers, Image Comics' 160-page Dead Space graphic novel, and crew patch for the spaceship Ishimura.

EA is currently only listing an Xbox 360 version of the Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition, and it carries a premium price tag of $150. The standard edition of Dead Space will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 14 for $59.99, with the PC edition following on October 20 for $49.99.

The $130 limited-edition bundle of EA DICE's first-person action game Mirror's Edge will play heavy to the game's messenger-service theme. In addition to the game, the Mirror's Edge limited edition bundle will come with a Timbuk2 messenger bag that depicts the game's sleek and nimble star Faith on the inner flap. EA's online store has 360 and PS3 editions of the bundle, and both go on sale November 11.

For 130-150$ for the limited edition, you should expect the value of two games in one for that price. I can't see myself getting that much gameplay from the bag to make it worth it! Seriously, EA may have some good games out there, but I know deep down they dont really care about our actual game experiance, only money unfortunatly. That's why I LOVE quality game companies like: Blizzard, which release games only when they feel it is a masterpiece and not with a forced release date to stay within 'profitable' gain!

Yeeeaaah... I'm going with the latter. The Dead Space one is kick-ass, though. ._.

Great, more crap from EA. Seriously, GTAIV special edition was acceptable, MGS4 was just on the border (with a nice figure), but this is crazy. Even Fable II Special Edition comes with a figure, bonus in-game content and art cards for £45. C'mon EA.

with the limited edition of trust EA has earned from it's former fans,i think it's pretty ambitious to hope the game to sell well at the regular price point, let alone the 100% ridiculous 150 dollar one...EA if you're listening, step 1,make good games, step 2,build a LOYAL fanbase ,step 3,try really hard not to screw them over by releasing 70+% garbage for the last 5 years...if you see the way Sony's MMORPG's are going? they earned that the same way you're earning your future failures

I agree 100% with Blizz99, this is so stupid. Man, I don't care about the all that other stuff. Just come up with the game and make sure that its worth the money that the consumers are paying for the title. Sometimes companies like EA just blow up the hype and when the game comes out it blows chunks. Man, where do you think I'm from, Jersey?

These collectors editions are stupid. I remember back in the day of the Halo 2 and Doom 3 collector's editions on Original Xbox where they were only $5 more expensive. They came in a cool metal case the same size and shape as the normal one, but they had an extra booklet or something inside, and a second DVD with a few hours of making of stuff, concept art, and in the case of Doom 3, the original Doom 1 and Doom 2.

Your an idiot with too much money on your hands if you buy this crap. It's just plain ridiculous. When Sony published games like God of War, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank all have a couple hours making off content, plus concept art, and even more in the case of God of War, all on the basic $60 disc, you just can't justify spending $130 or $150 on collectors editions. It's just plain stupid.

Gamers need to stick together to boycott all Collector editions. The game publishers are getting out of control when it comes to C.E. I'm all for supporting your favorite game, But they should sell some swag if they want extra money. At first these C.E. were an extra $10 and people bought them, hell I bought them but not they are outrageous. Most of them are $20 and that's alot, but $130-$150 that's crazy. It's not worth it. I bought the Halo 3 Legendary Edition for it's $130 and I thought it was so awesome and made me so cool. But now I realize it's a piece of junk that clutters up my house. It was a rip off and if I had to do it over there is no way I would have bought it. The game is worth $60 when you get a Collector's Edition you're basicly just paying more for the same game seems pretty ignorant. Support the game by buying new, but don't support the greed by buying these Collector Editions.

i`m with those who just can`t see spending money on non- game crapola like this.I bought a 'Special Edition' game once( so disc and an extra how it was done disc)because I couldn`t get the first copy of mine to work..my bad in defective reasoning. It was still going to be the same disc, I simply figuered out what to do to get it going. Ea didn`t seem to want to answer the phone when i called, my more realistic complaint. And, I so wanted to play that game on my new box(CRYSIS) But, well I don`t mean to be a blu-nose but, there is something almost wrong besides just stupid, in wasting money on stuff like this. All the way from food for the baby/something for my wife to a better Home theator system..your circumstances determine.

But,kinda did like that well done piece 'o' plastic GOW2 gun..heh. In a kinder, cheaper world..

Who would seriously use that messenger bag in public without the intention of being laughed at? I think its laughable that EAs putting these price tags. For the most part I'm a LE wh*re but I'll pass on these LEs. Just remember the Legendary Edition of Halo 3 having a $130 price which can now be had for $70 new!!

Well, at the very least the Mirror's Edge limited edition has some sort of practical functionality. That being said, it's not $70 worth of practical functionality, nor do I think the Dead Space Limited Edition is $90 worth of extras.

  • NickAnguiano

Deadspace looks pretty sweet. I got in reserved. I saw a developer diary on it where the lead designer was laughing about how you pay $50 or $60 for a Resident Evil game and can beat it in seriously 3 maybe 4 hours. Sure there might be a couple lil extras here and there, but nothing that will make it last much longer. Than he went on to say Dead Space will take about 15-20 hours to play through AT LEAST. So I hope it won't be really fast like all the RE games.

Secondly, I realize that Dead Space has EA logos all over it, but if you have actually watched the dev diaries and junk... It's not really being made by your typical EA developers. It's a group of guys that hated the way EA made games and conducted business and finally decided to, behind closed doors, work on a game that blew everyone away when they unvailed it. There is some serious game of the year buzz going on about Dead Space. I personally hope it is going to be that good. I could care less which company is developing it. So for the ppl who are not gonna buy a game that appears pretty damn awesome just cuz of which company's logo is on it.. get a life. Are you a gamer or aren't you? I mean seriously lol that's a lil sad that you would actually deprive yourself a fun experience because of which company the game is tied with. It's not like you deal with them.. you just buy the darn game at Gamestop or w/e and play it.

Wow... And I thought the 89.99 for GTA and 79.99 for DMC4 was a lot. This is seriously ridiculous. I can't justify spending that much money on games that will last 5 hours (if we're lucky). Sure, the extra stuff is cool, but it will have to serve as a consolation prize for getting laughed at because of spending that much money on a single EA game.

FPS's are, 99 percent of the time, better on PC's because of the mouse keyboard accuracy. Graphically this is true as well 99 percent of the time. Why would anyone, and I mean anyone, pay $10 more for a shooter on a console that is inferior to its PC counterpart? I understand if you don't own a PC, but if you own a PC and a console, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON you should be playing this game on a console.
    **********************************************
Because more people who rather play these games in the comfort of their den/entertainment room with their friend and not in front of the 19in monitor in a small room. That's why. Has nothing to do with graphics and keyboard/mouse controls. If you're a lonely nerd who has an uber PC, then by all means get it for the PC. With all the issues with SecurRom, PC specs requirements, Vista/XP O/S problems and everything else that happens with a PC, I'd rather pay the extra $10 and play it on a system that I know it will run perfectly on without any headaches. The game will still be in high-def and I enjoy using the game controllers for FPS. It more challenging for one then keyboad/mouse. And I'm not paying an extra $70 or $90 for all that limited edition crap. Most of it will get sold on Ebay anyways. $70 for a bag is crazy, even if it is a quality bag. I could buy 2-3 more games with that extra dough.

At least with the $130 Halo, you got a Helmet. These guys just give you a $15 animated movie, and 2 $20 books... that's roughly $55 extra, yet if the game costs $60, that would be about $115... I'm pretty sure a lithograph and a crew patch aren't worth $45....

    @jazilla

because the cost of a console is drastically cheaper than a high end pc that you have to upgrade every year. considering how often you have to upgrade to stay current with PC graphics, gaming on a console is much cheaper and convenient.
