Capcom has been reveling in its back catalog in recent years, breathing new life into classic franchises by taking the tried-and-true gameplay and polishing the graphics with a fresh, high-definition luster. The publisher is taking the opposite tack with Mega Man 9, however, making an all-new game and giving it the nostalgia-inducing veneer of the 8-bit era.

Today, Capcom gave gamers a date for when they can expect to experience the 8-bit Mega Man revival. Mega Man 9 will lead on Nintendo's WiiWare on September 22, with the PlayStation Network edition following September 25. The game will arrive on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade on October 1. The game will be available for $10 in each platform's respective currency.

As detailed in GameSpot's hands-on with the game from this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, Mega Man 9 promises a fresh bout of the series' signature punishing platforming gameplay. This time out, the titular mechanical hero battles his way through eight stages that are each capped by a unique robot boss.
