Tatsunoko vs. Capcom crosses over to Wii

Arcade brawler pitting game publisher's characters against those of anime production company confirmed for Japanese console release later this year.

TOKYO--The Amusement Machine Show may be taking place in Japan right now, but the latest news in fighting games came from outside the event. Today, Capcom announced that its upcoming crossover title Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will arrive for the Nintendo Wii on December 11, nearly simultaneously with the arcade version that's scheduled for release in the middle of the same month.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 fans should feel right at home with the game's launching system.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom features historical characters from Capcom's popular game franchises and the Tatsunoko animation studio. Characters from Capcom's side include Street Fighters Ryu, Chun Li, and Alex, as well as Morrigan (DarkStalkers), Souki (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams), Batsu (Rival Schools), Rock Volnut (Megaman Legends), and PTX-40A (Lost Planet).

Tatsunoko's characters will likely be less familiar to Western audiences, as they come from the studio's 1970s anime. Ken from Gatchman (aired domestically as Battle of the Planets) may be the most recognized of a roster that includes Casshern, Yatterman, Hurricane Polymar, Tekkaman, Doronjo, and Gold Lightan. Karasu, a relatively new character from a 2005 anime series carrying the same name, will also be in the game.

Capcom has not announced any release plans for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom outside of Japan.

    This is why I'm glad I'm not a pure Sony whore or Xbox fan although I'm glad I own a Xbox 360. Anyway, for all of you crying about not having a JP Wii, just order a Freeloader disc and impore the game already. Those of you waiting for a 360 / PS3 release, you'll be waiting a while.

    All this crying about waiting a Marvel vs Capcom 3 is bad but thinking that Capcom would take the Tatsunoko cast out and put Marvel characters in and calling Marvel vs Capcom 3 is just the worst thing anyone can think of.....that's just being desperate. Be glad that Capcom is making another vs game if none at all. Jeez, people these days.

    2 more weeks till this comes to my front door.....I can't wait!

    I do not understand why everyone is moaning so much about japanese only release. Has no-one heard of the Freeloader disks??. Im getting this most def when its released as long as its classic control. Theres only 4 buttons for it and there is gameplay videos on youtube.

    Ok lemmie get this straight. Capcom no longer has the license to use Marvel characters in their games? and that's also the reason why parts 1 and 2 haven't showed up in places like XBOX Live or PSN? ... My heart... It hurts. Now I'm sure This Capcom vs Tat-su-no... whatever will be a great game (although it hasn't been announced to release here, but those are childhood heroes for the Japanese culture. My childhood heroes are The X-men, Spiderman, and Thantos (Thantos?) etc.
    I don't think it's wrong for me to want to see another Marvel vs. Capcom installment. If what some you say is true though, I won't be holding my breath.

    The Wii classic controller and the GC controller will work with any Wii game that is programmed to use them.

    I agree with the points that this is a sloppy misleading article. There have actually been many lately as Gamespots quality continues to wain....

    I wonder if during the hiring process they take into account jouralism experience or just game experience ;(

    no PS360 version, or more specifically no PS3 version (360's controller sucks for fighters)? well, that sucks; but i guess the Wii deserves something, since PS360 is getting SFIV. does that classic Wii controller work for Wii games, or just pre-Wii games?

    I hear ya. MvC3 would be outstanding. Capcom are the most consistent company for class.

    Man that mecha anime was a lot better than any gundam or any other mecha thing.

    I guess the mean D-Boy...I really used to like the evil twin brother, Shinya Aiba/Evil ("Sabre" in america) the suit was dan cool and the weapon... dam, but D-boy was good too.

    Tatsunoko studios have a lot of GREAT characters... this could be the next big hit in capcom's crossover series... the better one... better than MvsC2

    Sure most people will hardly know who the hell all these random crazy japanese people are, but at least it will get them more noticed. Plus im begging for some more decent games for the wii rather than the endless spawn of budget minigame crap on the shelves.

    @rouke1093, dude don't get on viewtiful26's case, i said the same thing. this isn't gamespot.co.jp and he's not complaining about the title coming to the wii, he's complaining about sloppy reporting. The title should have been "Tatsunoko/Capcom Announced for Japan" or something of that nature. The entire article is presented as a general game announcement until the very last sentence. It's like announcing that a presidential candidate has been found dead on msn and in the last line of the article mentioning that it's for elections in berundi.

    @Viewtiful26: Man, stop bit**ing about the announcement; be glad that titles like these are finally coming to the wii.. There are actually coming more hard-core titles in these coming 6 months than the first 1,7 years.. [If all planning has been done correctly]
    By "hard-core titles", I mean: good ones or at least titles that have the potential to be pretty good. In contradiction to wii's 3rd-party hard-core titles that were available @launch. And that's saying quite A lot.. (About wii's hard-core title support; which is finally getting warmed up)

    @Rulo: No, wii games are - for the most part/all of 'em I suppose - not region free..

    I'm indeed disappointed that titles like Streetfighter 4 & RE5 aren't actually coming to the wii (yet), probably first A (few) "low-key" trial-launches and let them see/make up if converting the graphics to wii standards are worth it.. ;-p

    It's strange how many "hard-core" games are being launched/announced/updated with progress news, since the - sudden - appearance of Disaster: day of Crisis by Monolith.. :-D

    this is some pretty crappy soundbite reporting here gamespot. why would you print this entire article and only mention in the very last sentence that there's no US release planned unless you just wanted to create traffic to increase your chance of gernering more ads for the website? that's just shady dude, a lot of people just got really excited reading this article only to ge their hopes smashed in the last sentence.

    Those "rumours" are a joke. Probably started or misinterpreted by someone who would much prefer a MvC3.

    Hell, being a Capcom AND Marvel fan, the Marvel vs series was like a dream come true for me, and there's no game I'd love to see more than a Marvel vs Capcom 3, but suggesting this game will be "turned into" MvC3 when it comes to the US is nonsensical.

    You don't just slap a bunch of Marvel character skins over the Tatsunoko ones and call it MvC3. It takes a lot of time to design and make sure the character models work right and the gameplay is balanced, etc.

    If anything, they might use this game engine for MvC3 if there ever was one, but that's as related as these two games would ever get.

    But if you ask me, we won't be seeing MvC3 anytime soon, so don't hold your breath. At least not until we start hearing news that Capcom has reacquired the Marvel license.

    BTW, the reason we have yet to see MvC2 or any of Capcom's previous Marvel games appear as DLC or in current gen compilations is precisely because of that, they don't have the license anymore, so they cannot publish further releases of those games.

    Oh, in regards to the Marvel vs Capcom 3 talk...

    Capcom opted not renew their license to use Marvel chars. Marvel probably jacked the price up crazy high after MvC2.

    However, rumors are saying that because of licensing problems with Tatsunoko chars in America, this game will get turned into Marvel Vs Capcom 3 to be released in America.

    Yeah. Hori did make a stick for the Wii so it's no problem to make fighters on it. But if this is going to be Wii only, that's just retarded. That's actually very weird that the Wii version is coming out before the arcade version.

    It needs to be on PS3 so it doesn't matter if they bring it to the states.

    Actually, they're probably using the Wii as the sort of "beta final", whereas the PS3 and possibly 360 will get whatever patches and upgrades come out for the arcade version.

    So Wii fanboys can flaunt now, but in the end the PS3/360 will get the better version.

    so are all unfair,sf4 is already on ps3 and 360,why can the wii have a piece of the sf action.The wii is perfect fit for figthers,you can use your GC or virtual controller and this is no exception.Stop hating just worry about weather it will come to the states.

    Personally (and this is just my opinion), I could do without the 1970s Anime crew. I would much rather see another MARVEL VS. CAPCOM!

    put this on the 360 I guarantee they sell at least a million. all of us Marvel vs Capcom 2 fans have been waiting for something resembling that game on next gen. I dont care who Capcom is fighting, that game engine was great. Hopefully it makes the transition by next year in the US
