Second Bond game added to Acti lineup

Quantum of Solace follow-up appears on publisher's 2009 slate; Prototype release narrowed to midyear.

The biggest publisher in the world is only getting bigger. Activision Publishing laid out its 2009 slate of game releases at a presentation for analysts yesterday, touting a lineup of 70 different SKUs in 15 different properties. (The same game appearing on three different platforms would be counted by retailers as three stock-keeping units, or SKUs.)

While most of the lineup was previously announced, there was one new title slipped into the mix. Specifically, Activison Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith confirmed that James Bond would be returning to the gaming world in a follow-up to this year's Quantum of Solace.

While the Bond game won't have a new movie appearing alongside it, Activision is keeping up with a few other box-office blockbusters for 2009. Games like Transformers, Wolverine, Ice Age, and Monsters vs. Aliens will all be using new feature films for their source material.

Highlighting the rest of the announced lineup were a trio of new intellectual properties. Activision Publishing will premiere Bizarre Creations' "racing category killer" during the year, while Radical Entertainment's Prototype will finally make it to production and release toward the middle of the year. Rounding out the original IP will be Raven Software's sci-fi first-person shooter Singularity, which Griffith said had the "strongest concept appeal we've ever seen."

Regardless of how those titles do, Activision will still rely heavily on its established franchises. Griffith said the publisher's top six franchises alone account for more than $8 billion in annual revenues. The 2009 slate of familiar faces will feature Call of Duty, multiple Guitar Hero releases, a revamped Tony Hawk game, Wolfenstein, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

    First prototype was coming out near the end of this year, then it was delayed until early next year, and now we find it's gonna come out more like mid year. I really want prototype but I'm getting skeptical that it may never come out.

    Well I hope these Bond games are better than that lousy "Nightfire" Bond game... What we want is another Goldeneye, but chances are slim that we'll get it.

    please bond be great like you deserve to be... im not sure if i trust treyarch though even if they got cod4's engine... cod3 and spidey 3 where a big disapointment...

    I want a Bond game that spans the entire series; from Dr. No right through to Quantum of Solace. Just key points in each film. It should also contain a huge amount of unlockables e.g. character bios, costumes, playable characters, etc. Playing as Oddjob and flinging his razor hat through a ton of Blofeld's cronies would be ace! Also you could unlock minigames of the casino games he plays. I just really want the ultimate Bond game and no developer has delivered to this day! (Goldeneye 007 is the best so far but I want more)

    Bond games are awesome. I am so glad I got a 360, so I can play shooters properly. And is Call of Duty pushed back to 2009? I pre-ordered it yesterday and it said it would be out this November. Oh well, lots of other great games to get first.

    lol on the new GH as well. They put like 15 of the same songs in those as previous editions and charge regular pice. It's becoming as watered down as the Tony Hawk games. I guess money>art though for them.

    I think a lot of people are neglecting to notice two things:

    1. Bond games have been made by EA, a company who lacks experience in first-person shooters like crazy until recently, as well as mostly in third-person shooters. Their focus was always in sports and the rest was just whatever they could do.

    2. QoS is being made by Treyarch, who handled Call of Duty 3...which wasn't a totally horrific shooter...as well as the new World at War...so they could very easily turn this into a worthwhile franchise for Acti-Blizz.

    The game looks like it plays a switch-off between first-person, third-person-over-the-shoulder, and straight third-person. I think it'll be an interesting game to check out.

    For those that want to compare it to GoldenEye...that game was miserably bad. Back then, sure, it was a saint...because it had 4-player split-screen. Nowadays, that game is horrific and a joke. Doesn't stand the test of time.

    So if they're not tied to a movie plot-line, it might be nice to see what they can do with more freedom. I think QoS is 3rd person, and if that doesn't work out, will the next one be 1st person?

    Isnt GH being milked enough why not more DLC that way they have to put less effort into production and more into improved a games set list hehe

    Uhh, Another bond game? Will have to wait and see...So many dissapointments after goldeneye that the bond license has been wasted on. But....Heres hoping for a good 3rd person game.
