Sony generates MyBuzz

Trivia-creation community site opens today to usher in the arrival of Quiz TV for the PS3 and Master Quiz for the PSP on September 23.

While Nintendo remains the undisputed casual gaming heavyweight champion of the world, Sony has proven to be at least a contender, thanks in part to its popular Buzz! quiz games. With Buzz! Quiz TV for the PlayStation 3 and Buzz! Master Quiz for the PlayStation Portable both already available in Europe, Sony today launched the MyBuzz community site to start building support for when the games crosses the Atlantic on September 23.

Available now, the MyBuzz community site lets masters of minutiae build and share their own quizzes that can then be played online. Sony also plans to incorporate content generated on the MyBuzz Web site into the PS3 edition of the game. To drum up support for the site, Sony said it will give away a PS3 and a copy of Buzz! Quiz TV to the All Time Top Author, as well as as the newest redesign of the PSP and a copy of BUZZ! Master Quiz to the Top Quiz scribe. Prize winners will be announced September 23.

The PS3 edition of Buzz! packs more than 5,000 questions spanning categories such as music, movies, TV, sports, and lifestyle. The game supports local multiplayer competitions for up to eight, and up to four gamers can team up on the same console to play against others online. Sony promises that 500 question trivia packs will also be available for download, with each set specializing in one of the game's categories.

On the PSP, Buzz! Master Quiz offers 3,000-plus items of trivia, covering such topics as music, celebrities, TV, sports, science, nature, and movies. The PSP edition of the game features a variety of modes, including Quickfire Challenge, Picture This, and Virus Challenge. Master Quiz also incorporates various multiplayer modes, and gamers will have the option of either passing around their PSP or synching up to four handhelds together using a single copy of the game.

Only 5,000 questions? Nintendo DS Touchmaster has a trivia game with 20,000 and it even has a wheel of fortune type game. Come on Sony, get on the ball.

OK, but who is monitoring the "shared" quizes? At least (we'd hope) if it's "officially" published, someone check, and re-checked the facts of the answers. Who's going to dbl check these types of quizes, and what will be done if there's a dispute?

msheat, the only time you will ever think you need BC is before you buy a system. i have BC and after i got my first ps3 game, i never went back. btw, does the wii have BC?? lol the ms dominance in sales has been over for awhile. welcome to 2008

    ------------------------------------------------------

I have BC and I use it all the time, infact last game we played was singstar and the PS2 Singstar 80's, I have a large collection of PS2 games but only so many connections on my TV, what with a PS3, 360 and Wii, HD Sat Box, DVD player, surround system.

+ My TV is on the wall its a pain changing over connections, BC should be in every PS3, in my opinion

I'm a casual gamer but this doesn't do it for me - not enough innovation for me, I guess, as I want Little Big Planet over this.

People like to complain about how the Wii is the funnest and best system...and people complain about the PS3 not having any games...but I can't remember the last game I bought for the Wii...think it was smash bro's...and that has been a while.

Microsoft seriously has the best system out there in regards to having a lot of great titles and better exclusives.

anybody else hate DLC? I mean having to pay probably 5 bucks for 500 questinos seems like a ripoff to me. I mean i'm still getting this game...but I hate the fact that...hey we probably have a few thousand questions on here...but to make sure we squeeze you for every penny...we are releasing the game...waiting a month...then are going to bombard you with DLC.

Do you realize that NES and SNES, Sega, Dreamcast, and all legacy systems are still around, right? They didn't disappear or send a team of Nazi game collectors around putting yellow stars on old consoles and whatnot.

alot of people put this game down .. i'm actually interested for1 big reason and that's .... to create your own quizes .. i think that's pretty cool actually another reason i want it is cause of Trophy Support and the 3rd reason is cause the game i bet it would be fun playing a game and testing my knowledge on music and or Movies lifestyle questions. So i Welcome this in open arms

No backwards compatibility = no buy. And I don't mean downloading off the site to purchase bc capability or paying extra for a larger hard drive ect.. I mean standard machine, out of the box.
If these companies expect us to buy all these "must have" games, then they must make a concerted effort to give us a standard platform to play on. I'm not spending $500-$600 for a 3-4 yr. machine, unless it has some added value. And I don't mean HD crap, cause 2/3 of gamers don't own one, and won't buy one in these machines lifetimes. Sony shot itself in the foot, and must now hobble on with little hopes of catching Microsoft or Nintendo. Pompous asses!!

Sony will never reach a non-gamer audience simply because of A) their reputation as a hardcore gamer company and B) because they're the most expensive and have the least variety of the 3 nextgen consoles

Nintendo of course has the biggest casual push...

Microsoft is trying and failing miserably at it...

But at least they have good games for the core..

Sony mainly just sticks to "hardcore" games... but makes a good attempt at catering to a diverse crowd... with Buzz, and don't forget LBP which is meant for everyone... the vast custimization and potentially deep gameplay should satisfy the core... while the the overall feel of the game should draw everyone in...

    Also home is really cool!

Casual gamers can go and do whatever the hell they want, I don't care. With the new Halo 3 update, Gears 2, Fable 2, and Halo Wars next year, I won't be looking at my Wii for months. And if I do get a PS3, Killzone and MGS4 will also be added. The games are comin' baby. They're comin'.

Cool, since I don't have a PS3,I could have a similar experience with the game shows coming along on the fall update(you know, with the avatars and netflix and the new dashboard...)--now that's some good stuff. As for the possibility for me buying a PS3,ya,there is one,but not necessarily for the games, but more for the Blu-ray---as in,if it gets to the point where it's cheaper than holiday-prices Blu-ray players,I'm all for it(so obviously I would get it for Blu-ray,with the games and Internet as a side benifit since I already have a great game system for that stuff ).

@BRAWLL; dont kid yourself, Sony is for the core also. Sony and Microsoft both have casual 'attempts' ie. Singstar franchise, Lips, SceneIt?, and Buzz. But from a selling perspective, only the Singstar does half decent, and even that isn't very great. Lips looks like it might sell, but again its to the sisters of the core gamers/girlfriends of the core gamers. The PS3 and 360 are the core systems of this generation and the Wii is off in left field playing with the casual gamers. Right now the only reason to own it if you are a core gamer is, parties, brawl, and mario kart. other than that its an expensive gamecube with a lot better games for a casual generation.

My casual gamer friends might have a Wii but I will have MyBuzz.... I doubt this will help them make a decision and also buy a PS3. Though i do have some that did enjoy other games only available on the PS3/360.
