Disgaea spin-off coming to PSP

Penguin-like Prinnies get an action side-scroller to call their own; Japanese release set for November.

The Disgaea series debuted on the PlayStation Portable with the 2006 Japanese release of Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, a streamlined port of the franchise-launching PlayStation 2 tactics role-playing game. Now the turn-based franchise is getting an on-the-go encore with Prinny: Ore ga shyujinkou de iinsuka for the PSP.

As reported today by Dengeki Online, the game is set for release November 20 in Japan. Roughly translated as Prinny: Is It Really Ok That I'm the Main Character, the game is a side-scrolling action spin-off featuring the amoral penguinlike henchmen of the series, commonly known as Prinnies.

After someone steals demon princess Etna's sweets, the enraged victim orders her faithful Prinny henchmen to find the "ultimate sweets" or else face her terrible wrath. The game includes 10 stages, adaptive difficulty settings, and a story spanning a single lengthy day in the life of the Prinnies.

As of press time, a representative with Nippon Ichi Software America had not returned GameSpot's request for comment on the game's fate outside of Japan.

So true even if most JPRPGS kinda suck in terms of VOs it's more then nice to have a few fun RPGs to play over the holiday. Sadly it seems most developers like to keep their killer App games for Consoles, and not handhelds. IE the PSP saw a major boost in sales this year thanks to some great First party games that show off the PSPs killer graphics, and gameplay that it can do. IE God of War, Final Fantasy, Rachet and Clank, Secret Agent Clank, Killzone: Liberation, and SyphonFilter, as well as the Metal Gear Solid franchieses, and last but not least WipeOut: Pulse have been holding up the PSP for a long time.

Right now Sony is trying to get third party developers to make more exclusive games on the system for other countries. US game developers seem to just wan't to port over their console titles, and Euope game Developers don't like to make anything unless it has some kind of techno edge, or RPG sword slashing to it.

Mean While the Japanese developers stick to RPGs, and odd mini games. A few weeks ago the head of Sony's PSP divison said he is in heavy nagosations with third partys to make even the ports for PSP games have excluisve content not found anywhere else (like Nintendo has done with it's third party games) As well as get some good third party developers to make some exclusive games for the system. IMHO the fallowing Ecluisves would boost PSP sales if developers would bring them back agian:

StarWars: BattleFront (Renagade Squadron was a major hit for Lucas Arts their Force Unleashed was another hit both had PSP only offerings and great features, and good looks to keep the game fresh and the players comeing back for more)

Sonic: BioWare releases a Sonic RPG on the DS, how about the PSP? You could make it look as good as any PS2 game, and on top of that offer DLC for fans.

Armord Core: This game only had one outing on the PSP it's time for another and this time with online, and ad-hoc play, as well as good DLC too.

Ugh, if all the great Japanese only games this year would of come out in the US, people would stop complaining about he lack of games on PSP. They have a dry holiday because they have no Japanese support. Early this year was awesome. Next year's looking even better. But this holiday could benefit from a few imports.

jhuuueee, PSP games are not region-encoded so you could import it and play on your American PSP. But yeah, it would still be nice to see an actual US release.

Clearly, Etna wouldn't be so pleased when she sees the title of the game. Somebody put the Prinnies on the endangered species list.

YES!!!!11 There IS a God! Prinnies totally deserve their own game!

However, (and sadly) I don't think they will put as much effort into this game as any other disgaea game... either way.. a must buy for prinny fans ^___^
