LittleBigPlanet nearly at LimitedPublicBeta

Sony developer says the adorable PS3 exclusive is "all but complete; will begin testing month prior to October release.

Sometime in October--retailers predict the 21st---LittleBigPlanet will arrive on PlayStation 3s in North America, Europe, and Japan. The adorable, level-creation-friendly platformer received some slight preorder incentives last month in the form of in-game SackBoy and SackGirl characters based on God of War's Kratos and Heavenly Sword's Nariko. The former will be available for those who place preorders via GameStop, the latter through Best Buy.

Now comes word that LittleBigPlanet is basically done--and will enter beta in short order. In a post this week on the official PlayStation forums, a Sony developer going by the handle "Sam_Protagonist" flatly said "the game itself is all but complete." He continued to say Sony and studio Media Molecule are looking to stress-test the game's online mode, which will allow millions of people to upload content created with the game's detailed level editor.

"There will be a limited public beta test for LittleBigPlanet in September," continued the developer. "If it will be possible to 'sign up' for this test, full information on how to do so will be made public in advance of the test. Similarly, if the test is going to be conducted in an invitation-only we will let you know ahead of time."

    Exactly what I was thinking, but I guess if they find problems they'll push the release date back until they're fixed.

    Ill sign up even though i most likely wont get in. It is limited, I didnt even get into the home beta but i havent heard much about it either.

    they are goin to control it, really easy to. you can take screen shots using a littlebigplanet tool and send it to the developers.

    I was fortunate enough to get to play this for a little while at PAX (after standing in line for a while) and I'm hooked. It's a great game and that 5 minutes just left me even more anxious for October.

    It appears that Sony just keep having beta after beta... (little big planet, confrontation, gran turismo, etc). When do they release the real games?

    I've preorderd mine at EB Games and I just got a call yesterday saying that I can pick up my preorder gift package. I get Kratos! They should totally let all the people that preorderd participate in the Beta!

    Tidyspidey: There is a detailed character creator. All of the different sackboys you've seen have been created from the basic brown one. The game looks like its gonna rock! I really wanna get in on that Beta!!! HOW DO I DO IT?!

    Wakasenshi - I'm sure we'll be able to get the Kratos over here eventually. Maybe not as a pre-order, but for sure he'll be around at some point... does anyone know if we'll be able to make our own Kratos/other sackboys? I don't know enough about the game to say for sure. I know there's a level editor, but a character editor would be great too. Something like the Forza 2 paint scheme editor with the characters would just make this game OWN
