Resistance 2 starting November 4

Insomniac's sequel getting special edition at launch; multiplayer and co-op beta in early October.

With just four months left in 2008, many a game's release window is shifting from "fall" or "holiday" to a date more concrete. Two weeks after Fallout 3 got its October 28 date with retail, another AAA game, Resistance 2, has received a firm North American launch day--November 4.

Rated M for Mature, the standard version of the PlayStation 3 exclusive will retail for $59.99. Publisher Sony Computer Entertainment also today revealed a $79.99 collector's edition (pictured), which will include a hardcover art book, special cover art, an in-game weapon skin, and an action figure of the game's alien-human hybrid race, the Chimera. Also included is a bonus DVD with a behind-the-scenes featurette, a video detailing the game's alternate historical timeline, and a digital copy of issue #0 of the Resistance comic book from DC Comics subsidiary Wildstorm.

Developed by Insomniac, the first-person shooter is a sequel to the critically acclaimed PS3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. It begins shortly after the first game ends, with series hero Nathan Hale escaping a Chimera-overrun London with the help of the US military. After reaching Iceland, he discovers that the xenomorph menace has spread outside of Europe to his native United States. As the game progresses, Hale travels to Chicago, San Francisco, and the Pacific Northwest, all of which are under various stages of siege by the Chimera.

Insomniac describes Resistance 2 as its "most ambitious game yet," and with good reason. As outlined in GameSpot's recent preview, the game will have two campaigns--one for single-player, and another for the game's co-op mode, which will support up to eight players. The game's various multiplayer modes will support as many as 60 players at once, with players able to use new abilities earned from gathering experience.

Sony also today announced Insomniac is readying "a worldwide [Resistance 2] competitive online multiplayer and co-operative beta beginning in early October." Those who preorder at GameStop or get an annual subscription to Sony's Qore monthly video program will receive guaranteed "premier" access for the duration of the beta, which is open to the public. Those eager in joining the Resistance 2 beta can fill out an application at the game's community Web site.

    I don't know if I'll buy this game. I bought the first one and I wasnt very impressed. The game was solid, but it didn't have any features that stood out and amazed me. Maybe this one will be different.

    I really want to get this game nera when it launches or at Christmas, but unfortunately, I'm saving up for GH:WT. Oh well, I'll just apply for the online beta instead. Just one question though, when can anyone apply for it? It's still at the 'VIP Stage'.

    I like it how he says much more like - and then mentions the only two that are coming out that anyone cares about. Of coarse, how could I forget; Resistance 2 and LBP are absolutely no match for the likes of Fable (sarcasm disclaimer). Please, give me a break. Posters like these are of the sad few who cling to their '360 has better games' argument, aeons after it has become redundant.

    Resistance 2 and LBP will be great, as will Gears 2, but also look out for Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2, two multi-plats which will be great on both systems.

    I'm excited for both Gears 2 and Resistance 2. But I'm going to wait until the real version of Gears comes out for the PC, no reason to waste my money on a 360 title that is released without 20% of the content. The Brumak fight kicked ass.

    I didn't buy Resistance until the "Greatest Hits" price drop, and damn is it good. 360 owners owe it to themselves to sell there boxes and buy a real machine.

    oh, and no I'm not a fanboy, I own all 3 systems. I just wanted to get the 360 "elite" really fired up before reading this sentence here: all 3 systems have fantastic titles that everyone should enjoy.

    whos gona get fable? the first one blew and fallout 3 is coming out... if i want an action rpg im goin fallout 3 with a reputable developer in bethesda, certainly not fable

    360 fanboys talk trash but they don't even have a PS3 to talk trash about and have never played resistance. My opinion is I like the PS3 better than the 360 its more reliable in hardware and online servers. So Gears fans get ready for a hell of a fight from Resistance 2.

    360 owners beware Resistance is getting a whole new look and 8 coop beats gears coop special and the online very detailed gears 10 via live vs resistance 60 via PSN it will be a great read who gets a better review since their 3 days apart from each other. Resistance online play is fully remastered instead of having to go fight in groups one man can take out the team if their actually good.

    What I don't get is why even PS3 owners did not buy the first Resistance. What was wrong with it? It had some of the coolest weapons since Ratchet and Clank , a scary horde of eneimies ( that even looked scary when they were dead),a story that made more sense then all the Halo games combined, heart stopping skermishs and even vechicles to drive ( the jeep controlled better then any of Halo's vechiles. What was the problem? You play every other medicore shooterr that comes out no matter what score the critics give it. But they give Resistance a good score which they deserved and everyone ignores it. It is Okami all over again.

    Sorry ctburesch we also have Motorstorm 2 and Little Big Planet as well as Resistance 2. Gears of War 2 is the only thing that looks good on the Xbox 360 for the holidays and everything else that looks good we are getting for our system too e.g. Mirror's Edge and Fallout 3 so sorry again.

    @ CTburesch, i think you're wrong man, ps3 will ALSO have great exclusives coming..ex: motorstorm pacific rift,Resistance 2 and littlebigplanet, and a very interesting psn title, flower..so yeah will be tough competition..i'm more hyped for the ps3 exclusives..so..

    Ooh, might have to pick up the special edition for this one. Mostly because I'm a dork for things like art books and "Making of" DVDs. And the figure will make a nice desk decoration.

    Just to quiet the yellers, I own all 3 systems and play all of them, just have been enjoying the Xbox 360's library much more lately.

    most gamers would hope that the #2 game is better than #1, but #1 was still a good PS3 game. One of the few on the PS3. Sorry Microsoft has this holiday with much more exclusives like Gears and Fable.

    I am so sick of this bullcrap. Why the hell are there fanboys and every single freaking game thread that involves sony or microsoft. Everybody just shut up and actually discuss the game instead of saying "Xbox is still better." Well shut up you have your opinions but doesnt mean you have to trash the sequel to the best selling ps3 game and say some xbox exclusive is better. Nobody cares we like our own exclusives more than gow2 or Halo 3 because we have lbp and GOW3.Some people here have only xbox's and say "looks like sony is getting a great lineup this year and next year." And then some other people just come in and troll about their 360 saying sony sucks what a failure no good games, well shut up and go discuss it somewhere else. Look now ill become a fanboy. Alright XBOX has no good game lineup for next year and this year yeah you have gears of war 2 it doesnt matter tell me what's next that isn't going to be on the ps3? How many ps3 games are coming this year and next year that are not going to be on the 360? Hmm i can name 7 about now. Motorstorm 2,infamous,Resistance2,LBP,Killzone 2, Gow3, R&C(Working title). So there... xbox exclusives coming up? Gow2,Halo wars, i dont have an xbox360 only had one for 2 days but those are great games and you might have more exclusives coming up but you can prove me wrong.

    Anyways to the game i hope not all of the trophies are going to be duplicated from the badges. Hope they do something like Warhawk where they had some trohpies from ribbons and some from random things.

    i didnt play the first one i thought it was bad ,but from what i heard from all gamers here that this game has an amazing online environment, too bad i missed that well R2 is on the way and im sure going to buy it .
